A real neighborhood gem at a trendy intersection, Care Marie Jeanne might not be the glitziest spot on the block, but man, does it deliver. Serving up classic french dishes with contemporary twists, there's an ever-rotating, seasonal menu and daily specials on a wall-mounted chalk board. Service is knowledgeable, the atmosphere is inviting--classy but cozy, and I pretty much want to go back as I'm writing this review.

My wife and I went to Cafe Marie-Jeanne for a wedding anniversary dinner. We arrived a few minutes before 6 p.m. on a Sunday. We opted to sit outside at first because the music was a little loud for our tastes inside. (This gave us a fine view of the traffic on Augusta Blvd.) The service was excellent, if fairly casual. The menu is somewhat limited but outstanding nevertheless. Our server was helpful and knowledgable about a couple of obscure items. If I have any complaint, it's that she didn't mention the specials, which were posted on a board inside but not on the printed menu. We moved inside after a cocktail and starters, at which point the music volume had been dialed down. We were more than happy with everything we chose, including an unfiltered Italian wine that was delightful. Kudos to the kitchen: whoever is selecting and preparing food is doing a superb job. For what it's worth, I'll mention that I'm 68, and my wife is 10 years younger. There was one other couple in our age bracket at the restaurant on the day we visited. I am anything but a hipster -- and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I will definitely go back, including for brunch. Cafe Marie-Jeanne lives up to its name: it's a real cafe, and a treat.

Had heard mostly great things from several friends, but unfortunately the experience fell below expectations. Significant execution issues on a couple dishes (morel toast and cauliflower ); both were woefully oversalted, morels additionally were gritty (i.e. not cleaned properly) and dill completely overpowered the dish. Duck frites was definitely the star dish (loved the duck fat French fries, among the tastiest I have consumed) and we enjoyed the meat and cheese platter. Even though we had a very early reservation they were "sold out" of a few dishes (even a chalkboard special) which seemed odd (why not erase the "sold out" item)? Service had positive and negative qualities; on the positive server coursed out our order well and quickly noticed a dish not to our liking and made a substitution. On the negative, my knife fell while server was at the table as duck course was delivered; when server walked away I assumed she was retrieving a new knife for me, but she did not return (possibly she did not notice, but would have been difficult to have missed). Nice relaxed, casual vibe, but table sizes are on the smallish size. Portions were generous, so assuming the food is generally better executed there is potential for a solid value.

I've had brunch here several times, but finally came for dinner. Despite ordering poorly on my part (I always do that), I sampled plenty from tablemates and everything was delicious. The smoked chicken, pickled fishes, mushroom toast, steak tartare, all good. As were the cocktails. The hardest part about coming here is deciding what to get- you need 4-5 trips to satiate every craving. I will say that the counter girl on Sundays for brunch, the three times I've been, is always cold, short, and unfriendly. It's a shame because everyone else is lovely. Get past her and your experience will be great.

My wife and I got a reservation here for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found out about it from watching "Check Please". What a great find. We were seated immediately and service was impeccable throughout our dinner. The waitress was very helpful and attentive, without hovering. The food was in a word, OUTSTANDING!!!!!! My wife had the steak frites, I had the Arctic Char, and we shared the smoked beets. Uh, smoked beets?!? Wow! I'm not even a regular beet eater, but I almost ate my fork in an attempt to get every tasty, smoky, morsel. OMG! My wife loved her steak and I Ioved my char. We didn't stay for dessert, as we had other dessert plans already, so I can't comment on those offerings. All I can say is patronize Cafe Marie-Jeanne and you will kick yourself for not eating there sooner!

this was a real treat. From the apple, fennel, walnut salad to the crudités in a wonderful cheese dip, the evening started well. We drank good cider, great craft beet and some nice wine. Enters were mushroom risotto, steak frites and an a smoked fish omelet served with sweet potato purée and roasted cauliflower. Yummy. Dessert was great too. Afogato and dense chocolate cake. I would highly recommend it.

Marie-Jeanne is literally the best. My husband and I were spoiled and used to live across the street. It's a gem for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Very good pâté. The Arctic char was delicious. I would pass on the sweet potato purée.
