Cafe Malabar brings the vibrant flavours of Kerala’s Malabar Coast to the heart of Victoria. Led by Chef Kiran Kolathodan and Chef Karma Tenpa, our award-winning restaurant was named #5 Best New Restaurant in Canada by Air Canada enRoute.

Signature dishes include our Kizhi Parotta, a layered Malabar flatbread wrapped in banana leaves and steamed with fragrant curry, as well as our rich, slow-cooked Chicken Malabar Dum Biriyani. The atmosphere blends modern elegance with warm hospitality, inspired by Kerala’s spice-laden traditions.

Guests can enjoy a full meal at the bar with a partial view into the kitchen, scenic high-top seating near the windows, and an elevated back corner with a booth and glass table overlooking the entire restaurant. Whether for a casual evening or a special celebration, Cafe Malabar offers an unforgettable taste of Kerala with a West Coast sensibility.

    Beautifully crafted flavors from the south of India with some Portuguese influence made with the freshest of ingredients. This is world class cuisine in a beautiful spot right on the water. I’m predicting great things for this Victoria restaurant.

    Food was lukewarm at best , only the dishes were warmer! Shrimp starter is the best thing on the menu. The curries have hardly any protein in them. Malabar parottas were not even warm.

    We had an amazing experience. They were friendly, drinks were new and interesting and food was phenomenal. You gotta go try it out.

    Flavourful unique Indian dishes. Love to find something that’s not just butter chicken & masala. All the seafood was outstanding! And the waterfront location is so lovely

    Enjoyed everything that was served, have never had such depth of flavours from any Indian food before. Truly outstanding food, as well as very friendly, attentive and personable service!

    Second time going there and once again it was fantastic. Great food, and our server was excellent. You can really tell the whole team care about the restaurant

    Amazing food and really great service! Our server Sasha was super knowledgeable and helpful working around a dairy allergy! We will definitely be back! Very happy we have leftovers for dinner tonight.

    Overall, our experience at Cafe Malabar was only pretty good. The service was quite slow, and while our server was lovely, she didn’t ask if we wanted more drinks once our one cocktail (which was just OK) was finished so we never did get any more. Unfortunately we were seated at a table right beside the coat rack and didn’t get the advantage of the view. The food was good with decent value, but unfortunately didn’t blow any of us away. All in all, no regrets, but I’m not sure I’ll be back. Best of luck to them!
