As the demand grew, Marcel scouted a second location near the Mexican border and found the perfect spot at the Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico. This new location, established in 1940, featured a hidden gambling room above the restaurant, adding to its allure as a last chance for patrons to try their luck.
The grand opening of Café La Maze in National City became a star-studded event, attracting iconic actors such as Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, and Johnny Weissmuller. The ambiance of Café La Maze pays homage to the golden era of Hollywood, reminiscent of classic films from the 1940s and 1950s, creating a timeless and glamorous atmosphere for all who visit.

Been going here since I was a kid. First time back since recent change of owners. Same great food and experience, liked the menu modifications.

The advertisement is not accurate. We Celebrated my daughter's Birthday June 3, I ordered prime rib no flavor low grade beef. Husband and daughter ordered ribeye same low quality beef. Waitress forgot our the soup and salad. The boots are to close to each other the loudness of the next boot is unbearable. I will not recommend this place to anyone.

It had been a long time since we had been to Cafe La Maze and this visit reminded me why. The prices were very high and the food was just ok.

Cafe la Maze was great. The food was excellent. I had the tomahawk it was cooked perfectly. Also The service was on point great customer service. And the drinks were Amazing. The spicy margarita was yum. Large selection of custom drinks and a private dining area for a more romantic experience. Live entertainment was so much fun

Haven’t been here in sometime but noticed the breakfast/brunch menu. We had the prime rib Benedict and the chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. Both outstanding! Give them a try, I know I’ll be back!

We went on an extremely busy day, Mother's Day. Under the new ownership the restaurant flourished! Our server, Anastasia, was grace under pressure. The food was excellent! The set menu they had from Mother's Day was perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion special or everyday

Based on OpenTable and the restaurant's website I made reservations for breakfast to celebrate Mother's Day. The place was shut tight and no signs posted that they were not open for business. Very disappointing. Lesson learned call ahead and talk to a live voice.

Under new ownership, and they don’t seem to understand the existing customer base. We went for Mother’s Day dinner. They had live music, which is nice, but it was so loud nobody could hear each other. Then came other loud music and performances that got uncomfortably into our space. Service was bad. Food is the quality to be expected from this type of classic time-capsule of a restaurant, but the prices and ambiance clashed.

Service was extremely slow. My order was terrible cooked. Order steak medium rear and got an overcooked and chewy pieces of meat.
