Cafe Blue - Downtown
Book your next event with us
Excellent food, very attentive waiter, great location if you’re attending the convention center.
Underwhelmed and disappointed.
We found ourselves downtown with some time to kill before an event and wanted to treat ourselves to an upscale seafood experience. Open Table recommended Cafe Blue. The restaurant was fairly empty for a Saturday night and I wish I would not have ignored that red flag.
Our service was good, but the meal was incredibly mediocre for the price. I had the Redfish Lousiane and my wife tried the pasta with artichoke and shrimp. The redfish was tasteless and overcooked. The cajun bourbon sauce on the redfish was watery and tasted like it came out of a bottle of pre-made nondescript sauce that you would get at HEB. The pasta was not fresh and the shrimp that came with it were hard, rubbery, and unflavored.
The quality of the food falls way short of what you would expect for the price that you pay at this restaurant. Cafe Blue should change their name to Cafe Eew.
Enjoyed our server and the meal was delicious
Had brunch.. only the bar area is open for brunch. Had requested standard seating through open table but was seated at a high table. The party behind us was already being seated at the only standard table left so couldn’t ask to be moved.
The hostess did not confirm my reservation and was called and emailed by open table while eating.but overall, it was pretty good
Great food! Great service! We love it every time!!
I was on a family outing and we chose this restaurant because it has such a huge selection-something for everyone. I ordered jerk chicken, and it was very tough. I couldn’t cut it, nor chew it. Everyone else enjoyed their food, though, so maybe it was just a bad day for chicken.
The restaurant is nice. Food was pretty good. I got the Redfish Louisianne. The fish was delicious however, the crawfish & shrimp in the sauce on top were extremely chewy and inedible. My husband had the Rosemary Artichoke pasta with grilled salmon, and it was very good. Our server, I believe his name was Connor (?) was great! We paid with a gift card and wanted to use the remaining balance of about $23 as a tip and was told that they do not allow tips on gift cards. This is the first restaurant I have been to were this was not allowed.
Great atmosphere; fabulous food......the coconut shrimp as an appetizer was delicious; the grilled red snapper with fresh spinich and rice pilaf were incredible. The key lime pie and the bread pudding were outstanding......reasonably priced too and the service was superior!
We were in town helping our daughter with her things from the dorm because finals are almost over and we just wanted a nice casual spot to enjoy brunch. The vibe is very chic but the staff is down to earth and friendly, we didn't feel out of place. Our waitress was sweet and helpful which was nice since most chic places have fairly rude staff. Not here! And on top of the location from the school, the vibe, and the staff, the food was great. Seriously, compliments to the chef. My Floridian husband is picky about his seafood and says the calamari was the best he's had in TX. Maybe it was because we were there at 10:15a, but it wasn't loud or hard to hear each other (unlike more casual spots) which is always nice. Very happy we chose Café Blue. Any time we're back up from San Antonio, we're going to stop in there!
The food was wonderful and the service was attentive! My husband said it was the best piece of ahi tuna he had ever had! They gifted us the creme brulee when they found out I was celebrating a new job. Great place! We will go there again!
Excellent!! The personnel were excellent with our changing arrival time due to travel the f our guest! The service was excellent - attentive, responsive, informative!! The food was delicious - oysters, gumbo and mahi tacos!!
Good food and friendly staff. Interacted well with my 4 year old.
Food was good but crab cakes were not as good as I had hoped they would be. Clam chowder also had bacon in it which was a bummer for my friend who is allergic to pork.
We've had several delicious meals recently at Café Blue downtown. I love their broad menu with a lot of fish and seafood options, including a raw bar and New Orleans style dishes. Our waiter DJ was also terrific - very personable and attentive.
I was disappointed with the service. Started out OK but the large party next to us overwhelmed our server. Never checked on the quality of our food, minimal follow-up. We ordered the butternut squash thinking it would be great but it was very undercooked and tough. The only bright spot was the half-price bottle of wine. Guess this location has a captive audience with the Convention Center across the street!
Delish and friendly staff
The restaurant is a step above Red Lobster. Mussels were undercooked. They fried the crab cake (not baked) and the ceasar salad had stale parm cheese. Dressing was not good. Would not recommend.
I loved the Sesame Crust Ahi Tuna
2nd time back before UT Game. Awesome!
The seafood is consistently good.
Nice place. The oysters Rockefeller were exceptional and had an interesting twist. Drinks and wine list were very reasonable.
Nice environment great food and fine service from Justin
Great experience, delicious food, love the valet parking as well.
One the worst experiences ever. There is little or no sound attenuation material in the restaurant. With a large number of convention participants there you could not speak to the person across the table. Had to track down our server after sitting for 15 minutes in the din . At the end of the meal my Opentable reward could not be used . That may have been an Opentable issue. I have to determine that today. I would revisit the Cafe Blu in the Hill Country Galleria but will NEVER go to the downtown location again.
Wonderful food and great service.
Everything was good...I expected more considering the location and reviews
We had an amazing time and the food was outstanding. Our server was Angelique and she was phenomenal. She was very friendly, knowledgeable and even partook in our birthday celebration. Thank you so much.
We had a group of seven. The meal was awesome. Everyone's dish go back.was awesome. The presentation was really well done. Our waitress was extremely attentive and on top of everything. I would definitely go back.
Family from out of town. This is one of our favorite Austin go-to restaurants and it didn't fail us tonight. The Special Bacon wrapped scallop with lobster risotto was awesome. The table had crepes, steaks, sea bass, Blue Plate special and an assortment of appetizers, and salads. No one was disappointed, all plates were cleaned, and everyone was happy.
What a great choice! Excellent seafood options, but plenty to whet the appetite for other tastes. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and we liked the (sensible length) specials board.
We wanted to try Cafe Blue downtown after a performance at the Long Center. It was challenging to get on the right side of the street to valet park, and we never did. The valet was wonderful and took care of us anyway.
The food, wine, and service were all great! Noise level was too high for us, especially from a guy who was cheering his team loudly at the bar. All in all, though, it was a good experience.
Everything was excellent!
We went two days in a row. Saturday and Sunday brunch!
Worth the drive from Houston TX
Excellent food and service. Nice open atmosphere. Oysters very fresh and the sea bass out of this world.
This place was great! Large seafood / steak menu, fun classy ambiance although place was pretty empty on a Friday evening. Maybe it changes when it’s not hot out. Service was great. Food was pricey but good portion size
Was there for a birthday and felt like a leper. 5 tables at lunch rush and had to flag waitress down...heck had to find the valet that should have been a clue...Friend shrimp improperly prepared all the crust would fall off so had no taste. Disappointing is my word not bad but why would you return for a Disappointing experience?
Noise from other tables reflected off hard surrounding surfaces.
Server was kind and knowledgeable. But we had to ask her 4 times for straws and lemons. Then it took awhile before she delivered our wine bottle and glasses.
Coconut shrimp was good. Crab Mac n cheese was good but also different than expected. Penne pasta and thinner cheese, not much crab.
The other two guest with us felt their food was average.
I was pleasantly surprised about this restaurant. I had a recommendation from someone that I did not expect would recommend a restaurant this good.
The food was very good, the service was great and the prices were very reasonably.
I will certainly make this a place that I will return to regularly.
Everything we tried was too notch. From the crab cakes appetizer to the rum cake bread pudding, a great experience.
Food was terrific - crab stuffed shrimp was delicious. Great ambience and the location was very clean. The bottle of Justin Cab was a great recommendation. Overall, great experience.
