My wife and I had a terrific celebratory dinner in the C&O's lovely covered outdoor garden. The food and wine were just about perfect as was the atmosphere. The tuna appetizer, crab galette, lamb (roasted rack and braised leg), and beef filet were all exceptional. This was easily the best evening out we have had in many months. Highly recommended for a celebration or a romantic dinner.
We had the most amazing experience at C&O. The service, ambience and food were incredible. We couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Absolutely lovely.
I have been dining at C&O for many, many years — Never a bad meal — Always great service. Due to the pandemic many things have changed but NOT the quality at C&O. I have used C&O's Take-out option and that worked well. Dining for the first time in many months was a different experience. The quality and experience of the C&O staff rose to the occasion and I/ we had a pleasant evening
Go to date night spot - always consistent, flexible with dietary preferences.
Salad was over dressed and steak ordered medium showed no pink. I mentioned the salad dressing to server but did not bother her about the steak which had great flavor. It was an excellent choice to celebrate our anniversary. C&O has been a family favorite for special occasions for many years.
Four of us enjoyed dinner at CnO restaurant after a musical concert. Our wait staff was professional, knowledgeable and friendly without interfering in our conversation. Some favorites: rag mtn. Trout oyster stew, ravioli! A very nice experience.
We were there on a Sunday and restaurant was not crowded.
First time to C&O since the 1990s and it was such a great evening. Food was fabulous - we had Steak Chinoise and New York Strip, each cooked to perfection. Paired with a nice Virginia red blend and finished with creme brûlée. Service from Sarah made the evening special - friendly and knowledgeable and the right level of attention. C&O is still and again my favorite in Charlottesville.
The food was great, no wonder they been in Charlottesville so long.
Quiet, warm, interesting decor. Great service. We had steak and fish. Both prepared perfectly. Nice wine selection. If you need a quiet little place for special occasion, this is it.
Extremely impressed. I took my fiancee after reading some of the reviews and WOW. The scallops were expertly cooked and the toffee dessert was amazing. We will be going back.
Atmosphere had so much character, fire burning. The duck confit was absolutely melt in your mouth divine!
Nice, upscale environment. Good menu with nice selections. Good service.
The food was amazing but our waiter was not very attentive. He took my wine glass without asking if I wanted more and I was extremely thirsty and out of water but our waiter was no where to be found. Unacceptable service for an expensive meal.
The food and service were spectacular. Great cocktails. Pretty expensive though.
Valentine day date with my wife - wonderful dining experience.
One of our all-time favorite restaurants. Just a delicious meal and great service!
Both appetizers were lukewarm as was one entrée. There was one waiter for eight tables so the service was slow. We waited 20 minutes for the dessert to arrive after waiting for the dessert menu, and the coffee was served after the dessert was on the table for a few minutes. The bread arrived a while before drink orders were taken or water was poured. The meal was overpriced, but very flavorful. As an example, the Duck Confit was sized more like an appetizer and wasn't really all that special: Some breast slices with a sprig of arugula and three pieces of diced butternut squash. On the other hand, the ricotta gnocchi was light and delicious. All in all, hardly worth $27.
It was great.
This was the first time we have been to C&O since we moved to Charlottesville 15 years ago. We should have gone sooner. The food and service we both outstanding. We will be back
We came for restaurant week, the food was excellent as always! We had the trout and beef carpaccio for our first courses, and both ordered the Steak Chinoise for our entree. The sauce was a little salty but still amazing. The Albemarle apples for dessert were amazing. C&O has been our favorite date night restaurant in Charlottesville for 3 years now!
10 stars to our amazing server Christian!!! He was so friendly and attentive. He truly made our first C&O experience a great one!
Haven't been there in years. At the time it was so-so. What a shock! Looking forward to coming back as often as possible. It's my new goto restaurant in Cville.
We had a great experience. The food was wonderful however my husbands steak was quite rare and he couldn’t eat a majority of it. The kind waiter to the meal off of the final bill. He didn’t have to do that but it was very nice of him. We felt bad because we have never sent food back in all the years we’ve been together but it was just too rare to eat. The pieces of steak that were cooked appropriately were delicious though. As usual we will be back for the carpaccio. It’s our favorite. Thanks again and sorry for the steak complaint. The service and atmosphere were splendid as well.
Good service. Restaurant week menu was expansive and the food was delicious. No complaints
The food was very delicious. Plate presentation was great. Really nice place!
We went for restaurant week. The food was exquisite, service was everything you would expect from a high end restaurant. Since the restaurant is so small conversations get loud fast. Dinner was an experience.
Excellent meal. Great service. Super atmosphere. Everything was top-notch.
We went during Restaurant Week and had an absolutely perfect dinner. Everything was prepared beautifully and was amazing. The three course meal couldn’t have been better - we will definitely be going back!
Overall c&o is a great place for a great meal. We been here more than a dozen times. We came during restaurant week which makes it even more fun. Food was amazing, best place in Cville for a winter meal. However the Service seemed to be really impacted. Our waiter forgot the bread on three occasions after saying I’m going to get it right now. He was quite slow in bringing the drinks, dessert took 15 mins and even brought us someone else’s check. I would chalk that up to being Restaurant Week, well I hope.
Wonderful experience in a unique setting in Charlottesville. Highly recommend for a romantic evening or a gathering of friends.
I love C&O. Always have, always will. Thanks for never disappointing! Just miss Dave (and used to love sitting under his painting, which has been moved to an office?).
The food is always excellent at C and O. Their front desk staff was quite rude this time, but I will say it is an aberration. I’ve been coming here for over 30 years, and this was the first time the entire experience wasn’t perfect. I expect it will be excellent again next time I come, as they have a way of making sure the staff is up to snuff and the ones who are rude or weeded out
Caught up with my friend of 30 years!!
The food, service and ambiance were amazing
We have been there a few times before and have always enjoyed C & O. This nights meal was exceptionally delicious. We had the oyster chowder, Cesar salad, lamb, and salmon. All of it was the best we have ever had.
It was fine but nothing special.
My only criticism is that we wanted to dine at 630-7 but could only get 6 on open table.. there were several empty tables the entire time we were there and when we left as well. Should I have called?
Very nice atmosphere with attentive but not over attentive service. The price is for quality but that’s what you receive and overall everything was quite pleasant.
C&O offers traditional elegance, reminds me of restaurants used for important date in 1970s and 1980s- but in a good way. Not a lot of exotic flourishes or surprises. Good food made well and relatively simply. Wine list is good if concentrated on mid-level largely- few very expensive older and more reputed wines. Good anniversary meal.
Wonderful, as always!
