   We hadn’t made it back to C&O in several years (only because we don’t live that close) but it was such a treat to return this past weekend. The food was amazing (tuna and scallop appetizers, halibut and steak chinois entrees, and a great bottle of Chinon), the service so attentive and the atmosphere so comfortable. Thanks C&O!

   This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was unbelievable. The sweetbreads was a unique dish I had always wanted to try and it was mindblowingly spectacular here. The appetizers, the entrees and the desserts were all fantastic. Can’t recommend this place enough.

   We have been going to the C&O for 45 years. Even when we lived in Chicago we would come back to celebrate special occasions. We are so happy it remains a staple of Charlottesville and never disappoints.

    Excellent food, very quiet and intimate feeling dining room. If you or someone you love is hard of hearing, this is the perfect restaurant. We went for dinner, but I was surprised to see the basement also has a hopping bar scene!

    Had read about C&O and wanted to try it. We were not disappointed! Beautiful dining rooms rustic but elegant. Service was absolutely astounding! From the darling hostess to the Bosnian waiter, we couldnt have been served better at the White House!! Haha! We had a nice wine from Georgia(country), steak tartare with grilled toast that was unlike anything I've ever tasted. I didn't know that raw beef could taste so delicious. The duck confit with ricotta gnocchi was so rich and flavorful but subtle. My husband had the NY strip with peppercorn demi glace that was so good we could I seriously could have licked the plate!!! We will return to Cville just to dine here again. Thank you C&O for a lovely meal and elegant experience.

    The staff is great! The service top notch. Great variety on the menu. I asked for the upstairs and a window table since it was my wife's birthday. Got such a table. They put a birthday candle on her creme brulee! I kidded the waiter by asking if it was inappropriate to lick my plate at the end of the meal. So good!

    We went to C&O to celebrate our anniversary and it was a fabulous experience. The service is excellent, the food is exceptional, and the venue is lovely. We have made C&O our “go to” for special occasions and we’ve been doing so for 20 years. We drive over an hour to get here because jt is that good. Highly recommend!

    Almost every serving was over- sauced and very small. Not the C& O I remember where the details were watched over closely. Assuming they're presently looking for higher caliber staff that can meet the expectations associated with the tiffany prices. What they are offering now will not work as a long term strategy - especially for people who don't already have a tradition of going there every so often.

    The food was very good and portion sizes were generous. The service was pleasant too. However, we were surprised that we were told we couldn’t pay as separate checks. There were two of us, so it wouldn’t have been too hard for the server to separate out the costs for each of us. As with most Cville restaurants, the prices for menu items are extremely high. Will be back again, but not for a while due to the high cost of dining out.

    Hand Rolled Pappardelle, wild mushrooms, black truffle butter was so delicious and, unanimously, the table’s favorite. We also enjoyed the Yellow Fin Tuna Crudo, jalapeno-ginger relish, tamari, beurre fondue , the Pan Roasted Scallops, whipped cauliflower, golden raisin-caper butter sauce, and the Tenderloin of Beef, madeira jus, tomato-bearnaise, wild mushrooms. All had depth with layers of flavor, waking up individually— and the Crudo finished with a surprise of sweetness. The ambience was cozy, warm with barn wood, brick, and a fireplace — which was appreciated during our cold, winter visit. Impeccable service with good guidance and a perfect level of kind, unobtrusive attentiveness.

    Count on the C&O for a consistently superb Charlottesville dining experience. Wine list and menus are excellent daily. Service is attentive and well timed, not obtrusive. Atmosphere is elegant, understated, and intimate.

    Really a special place. Loved the small and intimate setting and rustic atmosphere. Attentive but discreet service and the meal itself had zero defects. We shared two great starters while the red from Puglia was opened — the lamb in pastry and fabulous steak tartare (generous). Two more pieces of bread asked for came immediately to finish that off. The steak chinois was good if a little heavily sauced. Not sure where the moniker comes from. Afterwards we descended to the cellar bar with a stunning array of cordials too many to describe and a knowledgeable bartender who was generous in guiding us to The Fixer cocktail as he deconstructed its ingredients. A great experience overall and will be back.

    A quaint place that is much bigger than it first appears. It's cozy and warm, and yet spacious. The food is incredible from start to finish. I had the scallops as an appetizer and the celery root tagliatelle as my entrée, and my spouse had pear and pecorino ravioli as his appetizer and the duck breast for an entrée. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned, and plated beautifully. We had the vanilla raspberry crème brulee which was perfection. Our server was attentive and kind, and gave us space to enjoy our date.

    We were in Charlottesville for our wedding anniversary and babymoon trip. We were looking forward to C&O to celebrate both occasions after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t up to par or frankly worth the price. Ambiance was very cozy and romantic but we were seated next to a very loud couple that made it very difficult to focus on our own conversation (bad luck, not the restaurant’s fault-but something to keep in mind because it is tiny). Service was friendly and professional but took forever to take our drink order. Ordered our entrees after we finally received our drinks and then proceeded to receive the food barely 5 min later. The salmon was tasty but almost room temperature despite it coming out so fast. The NY strip was also tasty but smaller and didn’t reflect its price. Overall we were all done and paid for within 45 minutes which was disappointing considering the special occasion and we thought this dinner would be the highlight of our trip.
