Bywater American Bistro
A great looking restaurant- just a 15 minute stroll from Frenchman Street. The MAB Sour cocktail was fantastic. We shared some appetizers and the Mahi Mahi served with delicious sides . With so many great NOLA dining options its hard to stand out but this did .
One word, AMAZING. A must go to.
Always a wonderful meal
Food not quite special enough to merit the kind of accolades this restaurant has been garnering..a bit mystified and disappointed. Ingredients were of quality, but too many dishes missed their mark, the exceptions being the rabbit and the foie gras. For example, if you’re going to offer a dish as everyday as Spaghetti Pomodoro, there has to be something that elevates it beyond the capabilities of a decent home chef. Of the desserts, the spiced dark chocolate was pointlessly spicy without being actually delicious. Overall, this meal lacked any ‘wow’ factor.
We sat at the bar, which allowed us to get a glimpse into the kitchen - but I think next time I would opt for a table. We ordered from the appetizer menu, and all of it was delicious. Including the bread - which we needed to sop up all the delicious sauces. Our plates were literally licked clean. Want to go back to try the oysters, and maybe the snapper.
Duck was salty
Tuna toast was good, but over priced
Red snapper was cooked to perfection
Wine list was pricey
The food was delicious, our server Molly was a gem. We were so impressed, we booked a reservation for the next evening at Compere Lapin -- Chef Nina's other New Orleans Restaurant. Can't even begin to describe all the amazing delicious and unexpected flavors in her dishes. We will be back!!!!
I have been to Bywater American Bistro several times now for the past year and it is consistently, and without fail, excellent on every level. The service is top notch. They are always pleasant and accommodating when you arrive and the wait staff are well trained and informed, always familiar with the dishes, the ingredients and methods of preparation or availability of substitutions. The cocktails are novel and well though out, and again, wait staff are highly knowledgeable about wine suggestions and pairings. The food is a sensory experience. Layers of flavors, extremely well though out taste profiles and pairings and consistent quality each and every time. On my last visit, I had friends in from San Francisco and they raved about the freshness of ingredients and depth of flavors. Dishes we enjoyed were the picked shrimp appetizer, little gem salad, smoked ricotta agnolotti, farro risotto, charred okra, and rabbit curry. The best way to experience all that the menu has to offer is order multiple small plates and indulge!! And be sure to try to country pâté and five course cheese boards to start. The decor is warm and inviting with a modern vibe, and is a great place for a date, celebration of an event, or special occasion. My favorite restaurant in the city, hands down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Beautiful place, excellent service, amazing food! The four of us had dinner there last year soon after they opened and it was fabulous. This year, brunch -- Delicious Bloody Marys, smoked tuna appetizer, fantastic entrees. I know this seems like an overload of superlatives, but I would send almost anyone to BAB, except Donald Trump and some of his minions. They definitely do not deserve it.
Great look - creative, interesting and absolutely delicious food! The crispy fried rice with bacon, fresh peas and yolk jam was over the top! We ate at the bar facing the kitchen - great fun seeing the chefs at work!
We had a wonderful time! We tried several menu items that we thoroughly enjoyed. We will be recommending this to all of our friends!
We were celebrating the engagement of two friends that happened just minutes before outside in the street! Host/staff could not have been kinder. Food was exceptional! We especially loved the rabbit and the duck was the best we’d ever had. Thank you thank you thank you!
For them it’s all about the sauce. Not for me
Absolutely beautifully prepared and plated food that was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat. The menu was unique and the wine menu had some off the beaten path choices. The wait staff let us eat a three course meal over 2 hours with no pressure to finish and were very attentive and informative. One of the best meals out in years, STRONGLY recommend Bywater American Bistro to those that appreciate well crafted food.
Really great and inventive food and very inventive cocktails! Great vegan fare too, which is appreciated.
Delicious and fun for a family birthday celebration. I always love this restaurant for dinner but hadn’t been for brunch - very well priced, creative and excellent dishes.
Amazing food, inventive and novel combinations of flavors. Service was excellent.
From the friendly service to the flavor...Everything was simply amazing!
Food is amazing. Great attention to detail. One of the best meals from start to finish I have had in some time.
Food was excellent. Server was so friendly. Excellent experience. We will be back.
Food was delicous!
Best dining experience we had in New Orleans! Delicious food! Outstanding service! Close to Frenchman Street. Highly recommend
One of the best meals we have had in a very long time. Cooking was creative without being weird and prepared to perfection and the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. A big treat!
Everything was delicious! Especially loved the jerk chicken rice and red snapper! We also enjoyed the charred okra as a side and the brown butter financier for dessert!
This place really won me over. I heard about it from my roommate, and decided to try it. It exceeded every expectation in taste and quality. Casual conversation with the bartender about the food and the experience was a memorable experience, and the craft cocktails (BAB sour?... and the Pineapple Pineapple) blew my mind. Definitely going back.
Delicious food, we ordered too much but we ate it anyways. Great service as usual. What made me laugh the most is that they didn’t have their own pens; they had to swipe them from Compere Lapin.
Chef Nina Compton never disappoints! The unexpected pairing of ingredients that complement each other is amazing. I came for brunch to celebrate my mother’s birthday. No brunch in NOLA is complete without a mimosa. The BAB mimosa was simply delicious! All of chef’s creations are great so I knew the appetizer I chose, the chicken liver parfait would be too. Her interpretation was not what I expected. It exceeded my expectations. The pate was velvety smooth and tangy, followed by just enough sweetness from the fresh berries. Ooh la la! The avocado toast my mom ordered was perfection. My entree was the French toast with a bananas foster sauce, fresh bananas and toasted pecans all atop toast made from the best bread in the city. Love, love, love Bywater American Bistro!❤️
Loved the space and the food here. Service not so much. We kept getting forgotten by distracted seeming and humorless server. Had to hail her to pay bill after credit cards had been sitting on the table for 10 mins. Otherwise. An awesome brunch spot
Fabulous food and great wine selection. Definitely recommend
Came here by a good friends recommendation and it was well worth it. Was only in NOLA for 5 days, so we chose our 4 dinners carefully and while they were all great, this was the best.
Really fun and inventive dishes. Highly recommended!
We had an extra guest coming late and the hostess was very accommodating
Excellent friendly service, superb food. Had a great time. Near Frenchman Street for fun afterwards.
The spaghetti carbonara was excellent. The pasta is always a great choice. The brisket sandwich was dry. Service was very good.
My daughter and I had brunch here. We both agreed that the food was creative and delicious. Our server was super friendly and attentive.
Fenomenal food, knowledgeable and friendly service. Thank you Larry, Levi and team for the many attentions. The Chicken Liver parfait is strangely delicious, but must come back for the Tuna toast and the carbonara... oh and the corn dogs, and the crispy rice. So, expect me back very soon!
The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was good. We are big fans of Compere Lapin, so we were looking forward to eating at Nina Comptin's second restaurant in New Orleans. The food was a big let down, everything seemed a bit off. All of the dishes with the exception of the tuna toast were covered in some sort of weird crunch... bread crumbs? None of the flavors were right and the texture of the dishes was off putting. Overall a disappointment.
Wowed again by Nina Compton! This was a standout from our trip. Everything was delicious and don't miss the spaghetti pomodoro which was the sleeper hit!
The Bywater American Bistro surpassed my high expectations. In other words, it was fabulous! Super delish with creative, locally sourced dishes and wonderful service. I give it my strongest recommendation.
