Welcome to Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ by James Beard Nominated Chef Michael Lewis. “Japanese Smokehouse” is defined as merging Japanese ingredients and flavors with American BBQ techniques, and everything in between.

Menu highlights include light and refreshing dishes such as Wagyu Tataki with house kimchee, yuzu kosho and savory soy or Tuna Takaki with fire roasted peppers + ponzu, to bolder flavors such as Smoked Pastrami Short Rib with toasted rye, fire roasted kimchi + yuzu pickles. We are currently open 7 days a week.

Please note, our dining room consists of booths, regular tables and high-tops. We will try our best to accommodate you at your prefer location, but sometimes it is not possible due to party size. Our outdoor tables can be requested but not guaranteed when booking on open table.

    Mother's Day Brunch is the perfect way to celebrate the person who works tirelessly to keep it all together! Chef Michael Lewis and Ian O’Shaughnessy have been working hard to put together your favorite's including our favorite Ukiah Benedict with smoked pastrami, 2 poached eggs, yuzu hollandaise + shishito-cheddar biscuit, Breakfast Ramen with tonkotsu-egg broth, maple shichimi bacon + sunny side egg and Banana Bourbon French Toast. Each Mom will be receiving a slice of Chef's Mom Coconut Cake in celebration of his own mom, who shared the recipe for this delicious treat when he opened his first restaurant. Accompanying your feast, will will be serving signature brunch cocktails from your favorite Bloody Mary, Mimosas and thirst quenching Pear Spritzes. We look forward to having you!

    Ukiah never disappoints. It is one of my very favorite restaurants in Asheville. Alex took such good care of us and had great recommendations. We'll be back soon!!!

    As always - terrific. We were headed to Orange Peel so that was the perfect excuse to stop in at our fav AVL restaurant. We sat at the bar and the bartenders and Zander were terrific. We did three sets of different plates and then the coconut cake (wow!). Thanks to the stafff and mgmt for the amazing consistency. Good luck in Fort Lauderdale (my hometown!)

    Once again Ukiah is a winner, Alex is a great server and the foods aways outstanding. Last night our table of 5 enjoyed sugar snap peas, wagu skewers , dumplings, scallops, salad, crispy shrimp, mushrooms, and drum roll-SpicyTuna atop crispy rice which was the clear winner.

    Ukiah is a GO TO for me. I dream about the Lychee martinis and all the delicious food. I brought my best friend there last night, who was from out of town, and she too RAVED about the food, service, and ambiance. Our server was so wonderful and personable and took great care of us all night!
