Great food! Very loud!!!!! Service a bit scattered.
Love the atmosphere. Service and food quality could be better but location makes up for it.
Wow, we had a wonderful dining experience. We love the lively atmosphere of the high top tables in the back. The food was great and our server was excellent and added to the evening.
We picked Butch's Dry Dock for our 35th wedding anniversary at the suggestion of the inn-keeper where we were staying for the weekend. They responded to my request in my OpenTable reservation with a special table for our dinner. The food was incredible and service was excellent. Only suggestion is if you are going on a Friday or Saturday to leave a little early because we had to hunt for a parking spot. In Holland the parking issue was because of the vibrant area with other restaraunts and shops. It was a perfect selection that provided a perfect evening.
Delicious food from start to finish! Highly recommended for a nice night out.
Family date night with our 2 year old twins. Great experience as always. We love Butchs.
Our best meal ever there!
Service was wonderful. Our server was in a meeting so someone else stepped in to greet us. Water was already on the table as we sat down so you could tell they had a game plan in place. Food was mostly excellent ( highly recommend chorizo calamari) however the sauce for the mussels was extremely bland and watery ( only reason I didn’t give 5 stars)
Wonderful food, great service, will return . . . but how I wish Butch's would put carpet on their hardwood floor. The noise level when full was not "energetic" but toxic to conversation . . . esp. for folks with any degree of hearing loss.
Always a great experience.
Slow service on getting food. There for two hours with three people.
Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. Our meals were delicious. Several employees acknowledged it was our Anniversary, and a message was written on the table cloth. We had a nice table by the window which I requested when making the reservation.
Our server was awesome. The steak was great. It was a great anniversary!
We started with the baked feta and it was good but nothing to get excited about. My sister and ai both had the filet and it was delicious, accompanied with mushroom risotto which was to die for but the charred broccoli on the plate was an embarrassment. The chef should have never put a burnt vegetable on the plate when suchbattention to detail went into other parts of the meal. My sister had the lemon curd tart for desert and no exaggeration she must have said twenty times how delicious it was. The service was quick and efficient.
The most favorable things from my dinner there were the wine, service and ambiance. The dish I ordered was very disappointing. I received what seemed to me to be a pre cooked pork chop that was dry, cold and without flavor. The accompanying kale and sauces were on par with the chop-
Justin was an awesome server. Nice wine selection and the salmon was delicious.
We went for my wife's birthday while visiting the area and were greeted with a "Happy Birthday" personalized tablecloth which was a nice surprise. The food was fresh and prepared perfectly I think we ate every last bite and then the chef surprised us once again with a complimentary Bannan's foster which happens to be one of our favorites. I had a steak and my wife the salmon both prepared expertly, we had two appetizers, a feta dish and a shrimp and scallop skewer that you would swear just came from the ocean. I would highly recommend Butch's.
The food has not been as good this year as previously. Our halibut was over cooked
It has been our favorite so it is discouraging to have it let us down
The beet appetizer was just phenomenal!! Although there were no vegetarian entree's on the menu the chef was quite willing to make a number of them vegetarian for us. It is so much quieter than many of the restaurants downtown. A great place to go with friends that you can actually have a conversation.
We had a person in our party with food allergies. The manager, Patrick, was very accommodating and made sure that the food was prepared safely. He discussed all options with us prior to the meal and took a lot of time answering our questions about their food preparation. Great experience!
Enjoyed the entire evening, had a window seat with my date which we both absolutely loved, food and wine suggestion by our waiter was greatly appreciated .
Food was fantastic! Have issue with portion size of shrimp and scallop skewer based on the price. Best Lamb I ever had.! My wife said that the Filet Mignon was also one of most delicious she has eaten. They did forget the potatoes on my dish, but made up for it with the creme bruleé.
We have been to Butch’s many times although not in the last 6 months
Salads are now a la carte
Prices are higher and food preparation is not as good as before. Previously, this was a restaurant that was a good value. Not anymore.
Service is generally excellent but tonight was awful. Rarely saw the waitress who didn’t introduce herself and when she did appear she was always rushed.
Maybe she had too many tables, but regardless that’s not the customer’s problem.
All the more disappointing because we had indicated to our friends who we have not seen for several years, as they are from Europe, that this was one of our favorite places. Not any more.
I’m not sure I will go back after our experience
We recently had dinner at Butch’s for the first time while visiting Holland. I will start off with the positives. We were seated at a lovely table in the front of the restaurant next to a window. We stared with a delicious burrata and heirloom salad. While I am a fan of a well paced service it took over 30 minutes for our entree to show up once we finished our starter and we never saw our server during that time. I ordered halibut with peas and ham risotto. It was barely lukewarm and the whole dish was mushy and tasteless certainly not worth the $34 they charged. My husband had seafood pasta which he described as “OK.” His dish was also barely lukewarm. We decided to try to save a things a bit by ordering pot ‘o creme which was quite good. Hard to know if this was an off night but we wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
We celebrated our anniversary at Butch’s Dry Dock tonight and the whole evening was beautiful.
The food was super delicious and the service was outstanding.
Our server was extremely nice !!
We had a most wonderful time !!
Always great! One of our favorites!
Food is excellent, but the service is slow, and the chairs hard and uncomfortable.
The meal was delicious as usual. However, we were extremely surprised when we received the bill to see that it included a corkage fee of $10.00 plus 6% tax for a bottle of wine that we had ordered as part of our dinner. I have never seen or heard of a restaurant charging a corkage fee for wine ordered as part of a meal. When I asked the waiter about the charge and told him that I had only heard of a corkage fee being charged for wine brought into the restaurant, he responded that if that happens it is a double charge. So, even though we have been frequent customers since Butch's opened, we will not be returning to the restaurant nor will we refer anyone else.
Waitress was not very attentive. We felt it might be because we weren’t very dressed up. She was slow to check on us and busy.
Our waitress was great!
We celebrated my daughters birthday with you last Friday night and had a fabulous evening. The service was impeccable. From the attention she gave us to the timing of our food, was perfect. We felt relaxed and never rushed. The food was amazing! I can't stop thinking about the baked feta dish we had as an appetizer and the risotto I had with my dinner! Oh my!!!! It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to celebrating again with you. My only "complaint" would be the music. It was heavy metal music that just seemed a little inappropriate for the setting and was perhaps, just a little too loud for an intimate dinner (thus the lower rating for the ambiance). Maybe some jazz or instrumental music would have made the evening sheer perfection!!!
The food was excellent. We were shown to our table promptly and the table had a note wishing me happy birthday - a nice touch. The service was kind but not especially timely. It appeared that the wait staff were either stretched too thin or they could benefit by having some folks assist bussing tables. The scallops were tender and flavorful; the salad was super fresh; the calamari had a bit of a fish taste but the sauce was wonderful.
We would definitely go back but prepared for a slow paced meal.
Butch's has very nice ambiance, and the service was pleasant. I would recommend it to friends, since the choices are very limited in the Holland, MI area. Our only complaint was both the scallops and my steak were incredibly salty! I assume the owner was the person waiting on the table and she should do a tasting prior to serving the dinner hour, both dishes completely different in composition and too salty.
This was pretty good. All of the food we ordered was covered in too much butter though. Salmon, asparagus, and lamb 2 ways with snap peas.
We had a lovely time celebrating! Food was fabulous as always.
Absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is lovely. Our server, Jim, was wonderful! Fun, knowledgeable and engaging. The food. Oh my. The soup was amazing. Creamy and then a dollop of chorizo on top. I had the Reuben and I am a Reuben snob and loved it! We enjoyed a lavender infused lemonade to celebrate and were treated to Madelines for my birth dessert! My Birthday lunch could not have been more perfect.
As I requested, I had a window seat from which I could view the passing parade. My waiter was competent and cheerful and cooperative. My first course of mussels was good; the mussels were quite small, but there was an abundance of them, along with some bread for dipping. The tomato/basil soup was excellent, approaching that of Wolfgang Puck. My main course of halibut was tasty, though the accompaniments sometimes threatened to overwhelm the delicacy of the fish. My second glass of Sauvignon Blanc was as good as the first. I ended with some "real" coffee and an exquisite creme brulee. I do think that the prices are higher than they need to be, when compared to Ruth's Criss in GR, for example. I'll probably be back some day, but only on a most auspicious occasion.
The place to be in Holland for great food drinks and atmosphere.
Everything was great with exception of time to be waited on and served
The service was good, staff was attentive and friendly - however the food was disappointing. Two of us had the special which was whitefish - the portion was small and most importantly the fillet was thin and over cooked. The soup was average. Maybe we just we there on an off night.
