Butcher & Bee opened in Charleston in 2011 with the mission of serving honest-to-goodness sandwiches made with flavor combinations and food quality usually reserved for fine dining. That dream has grown beyond sandwiches to a bigger location on Morrison Drive, offering a larger, more diverse menu featuring locally sourced mezze, vegetables and proteins, beer, wine and cocktails.

The experience was top notch! We had the tasting menu, $35 per person, and it was amazing. The kitchen staff accommodated some of our pickier eaters without a second thought. They sat us at the open kitchen counter where the chefs were more than happy to answer our questions regarding techniques and seasoning. We were there before the after party for the wine and food festival. The chefs were frying up some pork rinds and they gave us a taster, delicious to say the least. The food is outstanding and the service is amazing. The value is second to none. I would go again and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice meal in Charleston. It’s a must!

Disappointing lunch. A couple of years ago we had a great dinner here, but lunch this year was mediocre. The grain bowl was pedestrian and overpriced. The fried chicken sandwich was overcooked. The pickled vegetables were uninspired. Perhaps the quality of lunch versus dinner is the difference from our last trip. This feels like a restaurant that has lost its initial innovative excitement and has fallen back to ride on its reputation.
