As one of the most beloved (and highest-rated) Italian restaurants in Chicago for over 22 years, the historic Buona Terra continues to serve scratch made pastas, brick oven pizza, fresh fish and seafood options as well as chops and steaks. The wine selection is meticulously chosen (and inspired by our yearly trips to Italy for the Vin Italy fair) to pair with our different plates made with the freshest ingredients.
Chef Chepe sources fresh items from the market daily. He butchers our fish and meats daily, makes all of our sauces and soups in house and most of our deserts. You might note that you see familiar faces as our servers have been with us since we opened our doors.
Whether you've been here a hundred times or tonight is the first visit, we think that you'll "Come for the food, leave as a friend".

The food was delicious, and the service was on point. I loved that the owners and chef interacted with the customers. It made it feel like you had known them your entire life.

Consistently delicious food; polite, friendly service; a clean, well-lit comfortable setting— these qualities make Buona Terra a popular neighborhood restaurant. Our family has been fining there for many years in the old and new locations and we always look forward to meeting there for dinner!

Overall the food was fine. The service was not good. We ordered a shrimp caesar salad and when I kindly inquired about the shrimp he just looked at me said you can order some (we already had), our main course took over 40 min between salad to arrive (we ordered all at once). I inquired about recommended dishes and it felt like an imposition for him to share. Just a strange vibe all around.

We always enjoy Buona Terra. The food is consistently delicious. The service is always friendly and efficient. The noise level ramps up and then back down so it’s moderate overall, but moments of high energy do happen. It’s absolutely worth it to eat at this restaurant we have enjoyed for many years.

We hadn’t been to Buona Terra since they moved to Irving Park Road. We arrived at 7pm our reservation time. The person who checked us in just dismissed us. He just nodded and turned around. He had no list in his hand to check reservations. The place was crowded and loud. We waited 30 minutes before we got seated. He sat a walk in before us and his friends that just walked in. I wanted to leave. No one approached our table for 8 minutes. No water on table. Finally a waiter came and took drink and food order. Didn’t love our dinner. They took off the chicken entree that I loved. I got a pasta and so did my husband. I thought the portions were small. The noise level was horrible. It’s a narrow restaurant with one window in front. We couldn’t hear each other talk. I would definitely not return or recommend especially how we were treated. Definitely loved the old space and the atmosphere better

We made a reservation and when our friends weren’t there yet, we couldn’t be seated. They asked us to have a seat at the bar. I let that go for 10 min and our friends were trying to find parking. I pulled the waiter aside and explained my husband is in recovery and could we please be seated as sitting at the bar is difficult. They said no, it is a “thing” they cannot seat people until the entire party is there. I explained that we only use places that take reservations for this exact reason and it would be kind of they could accommodate us. The answer absolutely NO and was it was their “thing”. It’s super noisy and couldn’t hear each other as the restaurant became full. The food was very good. But, we won’t be back. Customer service is everything and too many good restaurants in Chicago to spend our money at.
