Buca di Beppo - Naples Ratings and Reviews
Made reservation in August for wife’s 70th birthday dinner. Got your reminders during the week before event. Called local restaurant 4 days prior to discuss menu options ( pre-select vs order individually). Guests arrived only to find restaurant closed and still undergoing Hurricane Irma repairs and note on door saying opening Dec 1st. Huge embarrassment and disappointment ( prior visits were very good). Not sure why I was told 4 days before that it was open or why your system not notified about repair closure. Had to find other resèrvation at 6:30 on a Friday night. Called Bucca Corporate Office last week and was told the Regional VP would call to discuss but not response so far. Unfortunate!
Hostess at door was Excellent, friendly and helpful. She took us to our table via her Tour of the restaurant thru the kitchen and various rooms... I had requested room directly behind hostess area. Then we had an Excellent waitress, engaging, helpful and attentive as needed.
Food was Plentiful and Delicious. We had leftovers for the next day. Spaghetti, meatballs, Caesar salad, garlic bread, chicken Parm. All was soooo yummy!
We ll return and recommend!
There was water dripping from the ceiling & the floor was soaking wet. Didn't notice until the end of our meal. They had heavy, carpeted mats soaking up the dripping water. Had to walk through it to get out of the room. All the waiters were walking through it. I feel sorry for the waiters. The air conditioning wasn't working while we were eating. I overheated from the heat and humidity. The place was getting full when we left. Yikes!!!
It's usually better. We usually have fun. We did tonight. But then, yikes!!!
Nine of us ate here for Mother's Day. Overall the meal was good but not great. Some dishes were really good like Fried Calamari, Stuffed Chicken Breast and Spicy Chicken Pasta....the antipasto salad was good as well. We also ordered a Caprese Salad (unripe tomatoes), Italian Broccoli (with intense raw garlic which was the only seasoning) and underwhelming garlic bread.
Our biggest gripe was with our server.....the appetizers came and we had to wait for plates and silverware. She took our order without writing anything down like a big shot. As we were finishing the apps, the entrees arrived. We asked about the Caprese Salad & Garlic Bread and her reply was "oh, you wanted a Caprese Salad as well and the bread is on it's way". My reply was "maybe you should have written down our order".
Used to love eating here over the years and bringing friends and family. Unfortunately it seems like their menu has been limited compared to what it used to be, and the quality is not as good as it once was. Sad to say I am taking this one off my list of favorites.
I've eaten here before and had parties here as well. This time was an absolute waste. Our waiter Julio kept disappearing, didn't come to refill our emoty glasses, not once! The chicken part was burnt to a crisp on the outside and over cooked on the inside. We had to hunt Julio down after he didn't return to our table and half an hour had passed since we finished eating! Then he brought the check but my family was counting on dessert. So I ordered dessert against my better judgement and 20 minutes later it arrived a to our table and the presentation was a disaster. One of our frequent places has managed to disappoint beyond words. I doubt we will go back to Buca anytime soon. The restaurant was pretty empty despite it being season so the rest of Naples must've had their bad experience already and are boycotting.
This was the worst experience we have ever had at Buca. I don't believe that we will ver return. Our waiter was horrible....we never saw him. The food was lukewarm..it must have been sitting out waiting for him to pick it up. It was our granddaughter 's birthday and her dessert never came. We waited at the table for 10 minutes to pay for our dinner and than spent the next 5 minutes looking for him to pay the bill. Overall a terrible dining experience .
The worst dining experience we have had at Buca and we have eaten there 50 times. They were so understaffed that no one even came to our table for 25 minutes. we got our drinks after our salad arrived. And we had to ask the food runners for bread half way throughout the meal. It was a 2 hour long dinner for 4 people in which 2 of the four were 10 years old. The food was outstanding as it always is. Great food! But the server had so many tables and had to bar tend also that it was a miserable experience. This place has had a hard time with good management since we began going there 4-5 years ago. You can't fall on your face like this in todays world especially in Naples. Way too many other choices. We will return again as we are loyal customers. But last night was a disaster!
Never again, there is nothing good to say here even if we try to. Pizza a joke, almost no cheese and cold. Veal very hard, mix salad nothing to remember. Service from another planet, he could not stop by the table, always hiding somewhere. So, please go, get upset with them and add your review. Perhaps one day they will learn a lesson, so far they don't care because there are always new victims.
Not a good experience, from beginning to end. It started with the drink order once we were seated--the blender was broken, and Buca was out of its main chardonnay. One bottle of beer was forgotten, and served only after we had flagged and reminded the server 10 minutes later.
With two young children, we asked if we could put our order in quickly when we were seated. 20 minutes later, we were finally able to. About 30 minutes later, most of the food arrived. Except the plain cheese pizza my six year old had ordered. Despite being told by two separate wait staff that it was ready, and the main server was retrieving it, it did not arrive for another 15 minutes.
I had always thought of Buca as family friendly, but it really isn't. We were seated across from the bar, with risque photographs, artwork etc all around us. For a 6 and 8 year old, it was not appropriate. This was my fault.
The food was decent, but overall it was not worth the experience. I do believe the staff was working hard, but perhaps they were short that night and unprepared to handle the packed restaurant. Hopefully other reviewers will have better experiences to share.
This is simply the worst restaurant experience I've had in Naples. Just awful!
First we arrive at 7:00 for a 7:00 reservation and check in. After 15 minutes of being ignored l check back and I'm told that they're busy but that they are working on it. Ten more minutes pass and the the hostess disappears. At 7:40 she reappears to inform us that they are now pushing tables together to accommodate us! We are seated at 7:45.
This reservation was made on Feb 6th and the restaurant called to confirm that we were coming.
The incompetence and lack of hospitality did not stop there. Next the waiter came and either he was new, untrained or just didn't care. He acknowledged us at 7:55 at which time wine was ordered and the additional seating and place setting were obtained.
Bread arrived at 8:15 but there were no bread plates. Still no wine. Salads ordered.
8:25 bread plates arrive. Most of the bread eaten by starving guests by then.
8:30 the salads arrive. Still no wine. Dinner ordered.
8:40 wine arrives. 8:55 food arrives.
The one redeeming factor was that the food was decent.
The waiter checked back in at about 9:25 and by then we had had enough. No coffee or desert . We just wanted to get out of this poorly run and poorly staffed place!
At no time did we see a manager of any sort or receive an explanation or an apology.
Our issues were not isolated as other diners in our room also were expressing their displeasure.
In summation, this is a place where reservations mean nothing and good customer service does not exist.
If you have a large group and you want Italian, you are better off at Carraba's or even Olive Garden.
Just like Jerry Seinfeld says - anyone can take a reservation. Keeping them is the hard part. We had an 8pm reservation at Buca di Beppo, yet we were not seated until around 8:35. We were a group of 12, but Buca is built for large parties. Making it even more Seinfeldesque was being told first that we would be seated at 8:10, and then continually being told "10 more minutes". We let them know we were disappointed with their inability to seat us anywhere close to the appointed hour - and were met with a weird defensiveness - as if somehow what we were really asking for was that the people who still enjoying themselves at our table somehow be shoved out the door! The hostess actually told me she could take me back to see that people were still at our table, as if I thought they were just too lazy to clean an empty table. Very weird. So was the food good? Sure. But if you can't keep a reservation to within 15 or 20 minutes, offer an apology, not an insult. Won't be back anytime soon.
This was our third visit to Bucca. Our first, second and this time was every bit as good and just what we expected. We went for a Valentines Day celebration and had thought the service may not be as good on an evening like that. You never would have known they were booked to capacity. The service and quality of food was terrific. The family style meal which serves 2-3 is always more than enough for the two of us. We took home a portion of veal as well as pasta and salad.
As always, a great experience.
We are big fans of this chain, where dining is family style and portions are huge. Everything we've ever tried has been delicious. They have a kids' menu, and are willing to adjust items to taste (less spice, more spice). My daughter loves the penne alla vodka, for example, but not spicy stuff--they were able to make it without the red pepper, so she was very happy. Sometimes it is hard to gauge the portions. For a family of five, we split a small salad, 2 small pasta dishes, and a small chicken dish. Tons of leftovers! "Small" is not that small. Enjoy!
