We had been wanting to try Brookville, so made a dinner reservation for New Year's Eve. Perhaps our expectations were too high -- and, while the food was very good, the service was mediocre and the ambience was....."meh". That stated, we were seated in the outer room next to the bar area -- and the inner dining area did appear nicer. Overall, it's an OK place to dine -- but you have to do better than OK to survive in the Charlottesville restaurant market.

Had high expectations for this place, given how locally sourced their menu items were (really impressive...and that's exactly what drew me here). Unfortunately, the ambiance was really poor (almost no character and very low energy), the service was sub par, felt very rushed, no attention to detail, and when I asked questions about the menu, I was given very little or no responses (just a simple head shake, or a yes/no answer). I really expected for a place so tied to the local food movement, that they would be able to tell me a bit more about what the menu offered. There wasn't really anyone else there either (for a Friday night...maybe we were there a little on the late end at 9 pm as we had just gotten into town), but it felt incredible awkward and cold. I really tried to fall in love with this place because I believe in and support their mission, but we felt like the servers were staring at us all evening, listening to every word we said, not ever checking in on us, pushing us out, counting the minutes down until we walked out. The food was good for the most part but otherwise, the service and ambiance were a real let down. I wish we had gone elsewhere for our night in Charlottesville...

While we've never been to Brookville for dinner—not that we wouldn't like to, just that it hasn't happened—their brunch is absolutely top-notch. 95% of their ingredients are sourced from within 100 miles of the restaurant, so everything is fresh and the menu changes frequently to reflect seasonal availability. Usually, I'm a sucker for the Brook Griddle, which is an epic pancake sandwich with egg and bacon. This past weekend I branched out and had the tasso ham grits with a soft egg and maple syrup. It was just enough food to fill me up without being stuffed. My partner got the BFP (big fluffy pancake) and, as usual, he only finished about 3/4 of it, even with my help! As if the awesome food wasn't enough, the service is exceptional: lots of drink refills, just enough checking in to feel looked after. I also love their restaurant space. We were seated at a little two-person table facing the downtown mall and had the best time people watching. Thanks again for an amazing brunch, Brookville staff!

Overall, had a good experience at the Bookville. The sound level is very low and was a good environment for extended conversations. The food is very good and comes from local sources. It's not cheap though! A hamburger was $25, for example. But soup, steak, and pork were of outstanding quality. A good place to go, if one doesn't mind the priciness.

We ordered the tasting menu, for two. It was all good, but was very little food. It was $65 a head and we left and literally went next door and ordered more food as we were still quite hungry. Normally with a tasting menu the problem is more being stuffed. The tasting menu was five items: a watermelon salad, a pear salad, scrambled eggs, a piece of chicken, and a half-piece of cake. All of these were small proportions, but there were only the five, not like the twenty you often do on tastings. To be fair, the food that we got was all tasty, but the service was very lacking and there just wasn't much food. And ONLY the chicken could possibly justify a $13 charge each.

Went for Restaurant week - hadn't been for dinner, only for lunch previously. Food was delicious - though the portions were small. Charming restaurant on the downtown mall. We'll be back.

Amazing local food! We went during Restaurant Week and each of the three courses was great. Perfect place to get delicious local fare.

The food is trying too hard to be fancy, but it lacked in flavor and was too fussy. The menu is very confusing and impossible to understand. The ambiance is non-existent. We tried Brookville twice thinking the first try they were just having an off night, but the second experience was on par with the first. This restaurant definitely thinks very highly of itself, but they fail to do the important things well like serve good food and good drinks. The food is extremely over-priced for what it is, burgers should not cost $20 unless they have gold flakes mixed in, just saying. This is Charlottesville, not NYC and if this restaurant were in the big apple it would close after a week because the food is not good. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

What a great surprise! Brookville is not just all about bacon anymore! As a longtime vegetarian, I have never been to this restaurant because previously it seemed every dish contained bacon in some form. When I saw all their veggie selections on their new online menu, I decided to give it a try. The food was delicious and very fresh. My co-diners loved it as well. If you have been avoiding Brookville because of the heavy bacon influence, now is the time to give it a try! The server was wonderful as well, resulting in a fun and enjoyable dining experience.

I found the food to be wonderful but I was annoyed that we did not get forewarned that the menu was only the prix fixe option for graduation weekend. I would have been nice to be notified, since I was looking forward to some of the a la carte items on the menu on-line. If it wasn't dinner time on a Friday night, we would have gone elsewhere.
