They were so short staffed that the service was poor. The food was okay but not worth the price.
The food was different from what you’ll find in most restaurants with their Eastern European/ Jewish and modern take on the cuisine.
We enjoyed our drinks and dinner very much but the noise level made it quite challenging to hold a conversation.
The server was very helpful with suggestions for food and wine, and we loved everything!
Met friends for dinner- was quiet at 7 pm but got louder as more people arrived- that’s my only negative. Staff was very helpful to us in making our selections and provided great service. Highly recommend the Khachapuri- yummy and unusual. Brick chicken , cod and steak entrees were excellent. We enjoyed everything and look forward to nice weather when we can finish the evening with a drink at Over Eden on the rooftop deck!

Super yummy food served at the right portion size. I appreciated the careful attention to vegetarian options and the overall uniqueness of the menu construction. Not cheap but certainly not overly prices either. Our server explained how the restaurants aesthetic aligns with the history of the building as a trade school for laying brick, with certainly added to the overall experience. We will definitely be back.
The noise level in both the Brick Shop and Overeden were overwhelming. The atmosphere was nice, but it was too loud to talk. The ceilings need sound baffles.
Also, the selection of drinks was disappointing. No luck looking for a nice digestif or port for after dinner.
The food was very good and service was great.

The $10 charge for valet parking was not disclosed on the website and, as a result, was an unpleasant surprise. With all of the competition among restaurants in Pittsburgh, this puts Brick Shop at a disadvantage. That is demonstrated by the fact that, at 8:30pm on a Saturday evening, there were only six diners in the space and by 9:30, there were only two. It's difficult to keep good servers when the tip count is so low on account of no diners. That only compounds the problems, such as the lighted sign of the Rite-Aid across the street shining in through the windows to the below street level restaurant space. That doesn't add much to the atmosphere.
With all that said, the food was good. So, management should make some decisions to be able to stay in business. Thank you.
Enjoyed our New Years Eve dinner. Did not know, however, that it was a $75 prix fixe menu, so we were disappointed that we could not order from the menu (we love the chicken), and felt that it was a little pricey. We were also disappointed that they were out of lemon sorbet.

Great food, atmosphere and service
We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. I wasn't sure if we would need a reservation or not, but at 930am it was still mostly empty. We were quickly brought coffee and water, and we ordered the breakfast sandwich and the bread boat. The breakfast sandwich sounded great (kielbasa & emmentaler topped with an egg!) but left a lot to be desired and was messy to eat. The bread boat was better but still a bit underwhelming. Service was friendly and nice.
Delicious food, attentive staff, lovely atmosphere. Our dinner was a pleasure.
ps - everything was great but the honey cake is amazing, so don't miss out!

Great evening. A little loud but other than that, fabulous. The service was exceptional. I wish I could remember her name. She was so knowledgeable. She explained everything in detail and worked closely with someone in our group to accommodate food allergies. The food was delicious too. There were 7 of us and we were all beyond pleased. From drinks, to appetizers, to main courses, to sides, and finally desserts, we were truly all so pleased that I hesitate to mention any one particular item. Try anything and you’ll be happy you did. I hope to go back again soon.
Absolutely fabulous and very creative Eastern European menu. Loved the potato kugel, the steak and chicken are amazing creations. The haluski with lamb and the dumplings are amazing. Love the beet salad. Basically we tried everything and loved all of it. Kudos to chef Brandon.
Been waiting for this to open for awhile and did not disappoint. Realize this is a restaurant in the first floor of a hotel, but they did a tremendous job of creating a very unique space. Service was excellent and we were well versed on what was on the menu. Probably one of the most pleasant surprises was the wine list. Everything was unique, focused on the theme of the food Eastern European, and had a Georgian wine, Doqi (which never heard of in my life) that was outstanding and really refreshing to have something "new." Definitely recommend the Khachapuri, bread with cheese, butter and poached egg. We got lucky and Brandon sent out the Sauerkraut for us to try. Incredible. Dill, celeriac, lots of paprika. Planning on going back for Happy hour sometime and having just a bottle of the Doqi and 4 orders of Sauerkraut and would be more than content. Chicory and Beet salads were fantastic. Can guarantee nothing you've tried before...well at least I haven't. The Potato Kugel was very light, flavorful and almost an entree more than a side dish. As with everything else, the honey cake was unique, crumble with sour cream dressing and some apple butter to finish. Can't recommend it enough. Been waiting a year and high expectations but exceeded them. So glad to have Brandon's cooking available again and great for an event or just a good dinner night out.
The Brick Shop was absolutely excellent. The food was perfectly seasoned and homey, but very elevated. My favorites were the beets and the kraut. The staff was always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and all of our questions were answered - Chef Brandon came out and did the same, which is always a nice touch. Can't wait to come back!
