We had high expectations for this restaurant, and sadly, it didn't live up to it's reputation. The food was good, but not amazing. The mozzarella balls lacked flavor, the eggplant appetizer was just okay, and the rockfish was just okay. My husband had the pork shank and it had a distinct "gamey" taste to it. And the desserts didn't even sound interesting enough to try. We have eaten at many fine dining restaurants where every bite leaves you wanting for more, and we experienced none of that at Brenner Pass. The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere is attractive and unique. However, the overall experience was just okay and we probably won't return.
One of our favorite Richmond restaurants that we’ve been to multiple times is the past. Our first visit post covid was a disappointment. The other times we we’ve been, the food has been not only delicious, but unique. This time however, the menu wasn’t as exciting and the food we got was just okay (among other things, focaccia tasted a little stale, fish a tiny bit over done, and the portion size of the capellini absurdly small-the waiter warned us). The service and drinks were top notch, but I can’t help but feeling the menu and food has fallen off a little bit.
Although delicious, don't bring your American appetites here. Portions are small for the price customers pay. The Cappelletti was wonderful, all 12 noodles. Expected a bit more for $20. The pork shank was good but a bit dry. The sides, mushroom risotto and asparagus were delicious and the highlight of the meal. The cocktails were great and watching the bartender meticulously create each one was a show of its own. This is a restaurant for special occasions.
Great spot for a date night or group gathering!
We had an amazing dinner. The food and drinks were incredible. Thank you!
Service was excellent. All appetizers, mains, and deserts were enjoyed by our party of 6. Only criticism is that the duck breast was a little overdone for my taste.
Will definitely be going back.
We enjoyed an amazing dining experience. Every dish was delicious, with intriguing ingredients.
Our waiter, Kevin, artfully reviewed the dishes, addressed our every question, and made superb recommendations. He is truly a jewel.
First time back since COVID had shut down their indoor dining; experience wasn’t as stellar as it was prior. You order all your food at once and they “space it out” which would be fine if it was executed correctly. Reservation was at 7:30 but we didn’t leave the restaurant until almost 10p. Between appetizers and entrees there was at least 30+ minutes between the next dish. When entrees arrived one of them (the lobster) was cold and the burgers were okay. The fries were so salty they couldn’t really be eaten. Service was okay, not amazing but not terrible. The restaurant was packed which was nice to see but it almost seems like they couldn’t keep up given how slow the service was.
The food is amazing, the service is not. We waited almost 2hrs for entrees, never really saw our waitress the entire dining experience and when we asked for a manager was told one wasn’t available.
Incredible hospitality, service, and menu! One of Richmond’s best meals to date.
What a lovely dinner. The food was Uh-mazing and our server was top notch 😊
Service was really awesome, food, excellent. I saw a few dishes that I will return to try.
Good time, thanks!
We had a good experience at Brenner Pass, but we found it was not worth the price. Our service was AMAZING; one of the kindest and most attentive servers we’ve had. Our dishes left a bit to be desired. Our seafood tower appetizer was expensive, and both salads that came with it (rockfish tartare and squid salad) were lacking in flavor and just not great. The raw seafood was good and shrimp were really good, though, there was just not enough of them for $50. My husband’s main dish (cappelletti) was almost inedible as it was undercooked and crunchy. It was also a very small portion for $20 and left him hungry. My duck breast was delicious but came with nothing else on the plate. Dessert (Paris brest) was pretty to look at but also lacking in flavor. Overall, we enjoyed our time there.
Great food. Great service. Noise level makes it difficult to even hear the server and others seated at the table. Although the look of the restaurant is pleasing there is nothing but hard surfaces all about. Nothing to dampen the noise.
Just went for drinks but it was an excellent environment. Service was perfect
I love Brenner Pass. It's a beautiful, inviting, lively space that sets the tone for a really nice meal. The service is friendly and efficient and the food is always creative and very good - plus they have a great burger for those times when you just need a burger!
One of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. Terrific food - really a cut above.
I had the Arctic char. It was very good. Although the smashed fingerling potatoes were nothing to rave about.
Absolutely loved dinner at Brenner Pass! It was amazing. The food was exquisite and the service was flawless.
Great outdoor dining area. Was cool even even in 90 degree heat.
You can’t go wrong with Brenner pass. The attention to details from every level - front of house, kitchen, bar staff and servers - is incredible and the menu includes incredible staples + seasonal menu items. It’s one of our favorite places to celebrate or just enjoy a nice cocktail and bar snacks, and a go-to when out of town guests visit.
asparagus side orders truly unusual and delicious as was the side of bread. only criticism is the portion of the main pasta dish was about the side of a starter, not a main dish--but it was yummy. our waitress and other staff were very good.
Beautiful upscale resturant, little too upscale in pricing although crowd didn't mind paying it. Been there twice, first experience was nicer than the second. Overall good rating, but there are many others to consider that provide better value. Worth at least one try to decide.
Great to be back in the dining room- everything was excellent! Happy to be back !
The food was very nice & carefully selected. We enjoyed our drinks as well. The strawberry salted sundae was a very good dessert. Perfect place for a quiet anniversary.
Very attentive service and a delicious dinner, great drinks from the bar.
Always a pleasure
Excellent pairings with beers wines and food. Great ingredients. I haven't seen Savoie wines on the menu in American Restaurants much before.
Not mids. Heads
Food, service, and drinks were all 🔥Don't miss out.
Excellent service. Yummy food. Perfect evening!
We had a meal of several out-of-this-world fabulous small plates and a Pinot Noir from the Savoie. We sat outside on a perfect evening. Our server was exceptional. We could not have wished for a better dining experience. Bravo, Team Brenner Pass!
We had a family get together here and really enjoyed the experience. The cocktails are really different and delicious. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. We enjoyed sitting out on the covered outdoor patio space. We’ll be back for sure.
Our server was wonderful! It is amazing how much better a meal can be with a good server. The food was well seasoned, prompt and the portions were just the right size. Treat your self to a tasty cocktail as well, you won't be sorry.
Came here for my birthday dinner. We were very happy with the meal, service and drinks! It was a great date night!
So excited Brenner Pass opened back up! Loved the outdoor seating, the new drink list and the new menu!
Incredible food, good cocktails, great service. Ossobuco blew my mind.
Fondue is amazing for 4 or more to share! Highly recommend the duck and char. Snow Bunny is the best cocktail. Beautiful food and drink presentation. Knowledgeable and kind staff.
It was great to be back at Brenner Pass. The patio dining was great; food delicious; service outstanding.
The food was very good. the ramp dish was one of the best chicken liver mousses I have eaten. the risotto was cooked perfectly and the tarte flambe was excellent. We had the cheese plate and the prosciutto did appear hand sliced but was too thick and the La Tur cheese was overripe. We had two burgers and both felt the wine in the fondue was too much and the angnoletti was very undercooked. The nettle pesto was excellent.
It was a very windy night and the area we sat the wind created blew the tent to the point it was making extremely loud almost exploding like sounds. The waitress was very friendly and very helpful with our questions about the menu, she provided excellent service.
