Brasserie la Banque is a neighborhood French restaurant situated in historic downtown Charleston, SC. Paying homage to traditional French cuisine in a lively and welcoming environment. Led by owner and industry veteran Steve Palmer of Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the restaurant is a culmination of Palmer’s work and his passion for the classic French brasserie and its cuisine. The menu, helmed by seasoned Charleston chef and French gastronome Jeb Aldrich, features a selection of traditional French dishes alongside more innovative fare. Aptly named for its previous role as a city bank, Brasserie la Banque is located within the iconic 1 Broad Street corner building that dates back to the 1700s. Slated to open early summer 2021, the neighborhood restaurant will offer lunch, dinner, and late-night service, seven days a week.

This was my third time in the restaurant but the first time eating in the dining room. It's a beautiful space, with an innovative menu and a staff that seems focused on service. I highly recommend!

Oysters on the half shell were very tasty. The main fish dish was excellent. The bar tender was very attentive and well trained as was the waiter. The "fly in the ointment" was the crepe cake desert which was dry and unfinished. Downstairs bar was cozy but a little noisy. Over all, the ambience was outstanding and the training and attention of the help was the best I've had in Charleston. Personally, I'd like it if they dressed up a little more to give a visual consistency to the service, especially at these prices. The Manager/Maitre'd was cordial and attentive but not dressed to the level I'd like if I'm going to drop close to $100 per person on dinner and drinks.

This was our first time and we will definitely be back. We sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks. They were excellent and reasonably priced. The bartender was very attentive and the customer is at the bar were friendly and added to the ambiance. After about an hour, our table is ready. We had a glass of wine with dinner. I had the Bordeaux which was understanding but a little pricey. The French onion soup was outstanding and is reason enough to head to this restaurant. The beef bourguignon was as good as any we have ever had. The steak was tender and juicy with great flavor. The french fries were the only disappointment. The desserts were incredible. We had plenty to take home. Next time we will probably split in the entree. Put this at the top of your list of great Charleston restaurants. You will not be disappointed.

Biggest problem is noise. They have recorded music at very high levels, which causes all patrons to shout, contributing to a noisy restaurant. Some of the menu choices were outstanding (bouillabaisse, onion soup, mousse), others (steak frites were overdone) OK. Wines by the bottle were outrageously expensive, but by the glass were reasonable and quite good.

We took the duck consommé, bouillabaisse, crab and lobster. This was excellent, well balanced and innovative.
Profiteroles were very good with a very well balanced vanilla.

Sat at the bar for date night with the wife. Vince was extremely helpful, attentive and friendly. We had some interaction with Jeb, the executive chef, him and his team were very friendly and were a blast to watch cook, and the food was phenomenal. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be going back in the future for sure.

This was our first visit. We had some pros and cons.
Pros- Our waiter was great. The caviar service was lovely. The bar and wine list were excellent. My husband’s flounder was excellent. The crepe cake was a wonder.
Cons- I ordered steak frites. The potatoes were hot and fresh but I was surprised to find my steak lukewarm. It had a lovely char but I was disappointed with the temperature. Our biggest criticism concerned our seating. We sat by the window in the most uncomfortable chairs we have ever experienced. They were too small and hard. We’d have enjoyed the experience more if we had been more comfortable. Next time I will be certain to request a different seating arrangement.

The food was good and the location is beautiful.. Prices were overpriced comparatively, French onion soup $16, Individual brussels sprouts appetizer $15? I enjoyed the experience, but would not revisit.

For the most part we enjoyed our experience, we hope that next time we get to sit in the main area or at the bar they sat us off by the kitchen which was very busy and distracting. Food and drinks were very good.

Lovely new Upscale bar with French food. We had caviar service, red wine, fois gras, and a halibut entree, all delicious. Service was a bit slow due to COVID and the fact the they just opened. We will return for sure.

Really great looking restaurant…could be in Paris!
However the food was average…,I had steak frites…the steak was average and the fries needed to be crispier.

All of our food was excellent - halibut, loup de mer, brussel sprouts appetizer! The only thing that could have been better considering it’s a French restaurant was the bread. Our expectations may have been too high, but the bread was on the menu, and it could have been much better. The cocktails were amazing and I have to give a shout out to CJ. The building is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting in the back room at a table for 2 by the window. We would definitely eat here again!

Fine service, but the food was incredibly disappointing. Bland and cold, and quite honestly looked like fast food.
Save your money, there are much better French restaurants in Charleston!

This is a terrific addition to the Charleston restaurant scene. Well design, inviting decor and an efficient and personable staff. The food was very good and the service spot on. My only complaint was that our table was not ready for an on time reservation and my steak was not as hot as it should have been. Both problems are easily solved so I don’t think there is a fundamental flaw in the restaurant. It is new and will take a little time to machine. We give it 4.5 clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.

We had a NYE reservation and everything was fabulous. We both really enjoyed the crab cocktail, duck consommé & beef tartare to start. Our entrees were also spot on - an aged duck breast special and perfectly cooked steak frites. We can’t wait to return and are thrilled we’ve got this as a neighborhood option.

Great job with the restoration of the old bank building. But the music was a nightmare. Rap? Please. And the French onion soup was just a soggy mess. The P.E.I. oysters? FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

The food was mediocre. The “baguette” (there was no brioche) was literally terrible. Like a Publix loaf. The French onion soup was bland; the broth was weak and the Gruyère was without any flavor. My steak frites’ presentation was silly: an enormous mulching of fries to cover the plate next to a tiny, lukewarm steak that had obviously sat out so long that even a reheating under the lamp did nothing. The tastes were good, but the timing was way off.
We really hope this restaurant works out its kinks because it has potential and is located in a cool spot.

Food was pretty good. Not quite happy with the fact that our server pointed to the $40 duck confit on the menu and recommended half duck confit that turned out to be not on the menu. We were a little surprised by the bill. The restroom was very unappealing, not sure if it’s because they haven’t yet got time to renovate it yet - very weird.

Just brilliant really - so much Ron say but just one of the best meals we have ever had in Charleston after living here for many years and now visiting multiple time a year. Not easy to stand out in this crowded and pretty wonderful food city but Brassiere la Banque certainly did!

The dining room has the feel & energy of a French brasserie. The service was prompt & courteous. The French onion soup, Brussels sprouts, & Duck Confit were delicious. The chicken dish was average. The Lyonnaise salad was good. The wine was delicious & our overall experience was great. We’ll give them a little more time to get the first few months under them & definitely come again.

Been awaiting the opening of this La Banque. which successfully replicates the ambiance of old world Paris.
Tho the menu is rather limited most of the items were well prepared & presented. The ubiquitous Brussels sprouts were charred yet sweet in an apple cider reduction. The bouillabaisse with a rich broth & a variety of perfectly poached fish & seafood was delicious. Our only disappointment was the cassoulet, though steeped a rich, though skimpy sauce, it lacked the variety of ingredients that contribute to its hearty cold weather appeal. Some creamy beans & one small duck leg added up to its ingredients, just missing other meats which could have taken the dish to its originally conceived level. Wines by the glass were not very impressive, while the bottled wine was quite expensive & out of character with the brasseries I’ve experienced in France.
