My greatest joy comes from finding the highest quality ingredients and creating the taste i imagine for each fish, whether it be raw, salted with seaweed, or pickled and fermented with vinegar; it all depends on what is best for that individual piece.

Gary and his staff have done it again! In celebration of my wife’s promotion, there was no other option when it comes to Omakase in San Diego County. Service, presentation, and sake selection is second to none. Thanks Gary for another great experience!

Gary has done it again! Without a doubt, his omakase experience along with the sake pairing is second to none. When you make a reservation at Boto, do yourself a favor and experience Gary’s omakase. Your tastebuds will thank you.

Gary made our Omakase experience second to none! His level of experience combined with the outstanding quality of fish, exposes your palate to unforgettable moments. The Michelin Guide is definitely missing Boto on their San Diego list.

Valentine dinner. Boto is exceptional sushi in our opinion & tonight was no exception. The restaurant was busier than usual for VDay & they were sorely short staffed. Otherwise, we are loyal fans of Boto!

Gary is by far the best sushi chef in the San Diego area. He takes pride in his Omakase service and is very detailed in what he presents you with.

Sushi definitely better than San Diego average, and service was perfectly fine, but for the prices the overall experience definitely needs to be improved. They need to decide if they want to be a high-end restaurant where it makes sense to spend $200+/pp or a neighborhood strip mall sushi spot, but you can’t have the prices of the former and vibe/ambiance of the latter. There is basically no ambiance, it’s just a big, high ceiling room that wouldn’t be out of place for a fast food restaurant. Would definitely choose the bar over a table if I went back.
