The American steakhouse is an iconic restaurant institution. We’d wanted to tell that story for years, but waited until we had the skill, talent and ability to execute it properly, and the right space to be our canvas, an important corner in Little Italy, a neighborhood where we have deep roots. We brought an almost academic appreciation for steakhouse history and tradition to Born & Raised, while trying to stay relevant and authentic to ourselves and our city. Our dry-aged beef pays tribute to earlier, earthier, pre-government grading practices and is the centerpiece of a meal best savored at a slow pace.     What an experience! The food and drinks were phenomenal, The inside decor was gorgeous!! A huge thank you to our hostess Mel for your wonderful personality and excellent service! We had an absolute wonderful time and cannot wait to come back from Los Angeles again! Thank you once again!

    Absolutely FABULOUS!!! The restaurant was stunning, especially the upstairs patio. Service was impeccable and the food was phenomenal. Great vibe and atmosphere. Definitely a special occasion destination!

    Got seated before reservation time which was nice. Great looking dining area and rooftop. Staff were polite. That’s about all that’s good. Food was not worth the price, steak was cold and chewy. Sides were decent. Music was too loud.

    We’ve been waiting to go for 3 years to justify the spend. Didn’t end up even being as pricy as initially thought for two of us, but Worth every penny. Best steak we’ve ever had. Service was amazing and the vibe is so strong. Overall a really excellent experience and will be going back again soon!

    Beautiful venue, great food presentation, delicious food. Would have given 5 stars but the turn off was $5 for small glass of ice tea and $5 charge for each refill. Normal for Canada NOT the USA!

    I dined at the Born and Raised last night with my wife for our anniversary. The restaurant probably looks great in pictures, but it is very dark and very loud. All tables had the flashlights on their phones on to view the menus. We were sat at a table in the back next to the open kitchen, where the workers back there were shouting orders and clashing plates and pans. That along with the music, it detracted from any sort of enjoyment of the ambiance. The food is overpriced for what was received. I had the fish entree, yellow tail, which was over cooked and hard at the edges. My wife had the filet which was... fine. Even the bread, an herbed brioche, was hot fresh, but also very dry, with a gritty consistency. The wine selection is overpriced yet sparse. The staff was fine, but service was also a bit slow. We did not stay for dessert or coffee because we did not want to spend anymore time there. This restaurant is utterly failing while trying to punch above their weight.

    My partner and I were in San Diego for the weekend for a work conference and decided to try this restaurant. Our server was a gem. Super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was not bad. We ordered the beef tartare (7/10), rib eye (7.5/10), uni spaghetti (5/10 - a bit sour), and the Mac and cheese (8.5/10). What put us off was the bus boy. Our reservation was at 9:45pm and at 10:45pm, one of the bus boys came up to our table to ask us if we needed boxes, in a way as telling us to pack up and leave. I was shocked because I was still eating, having my fork in my hand and about to eat my food, when he said that. I asked the server what time they close at and he informed us that kitchen closes at 10 pm, desserts stop at 11pm and the restaurant closes at midnight. I was shocked that the bus boy came up to us an hour into the dining to wrap us up. There were still tables that were still eating. Generally the experience was good, up until the bus boy made the impression that he wanted us to pay for the bill and leave. My partner and I left the restaurant feeling puzzled. That ending to our dining left us feeling upset about how our night ended. No customer should feel that they are being rushed (one hour into dining) out of any restaurant, let alone a Michelin guided restaurant.

    1) Husband ordered a medium rare rib eye. He was present with a medium rib eye. When he said it wasn’t his, they insisted it was. 2) Notes in reservations that we were also celebrating a birthday. This was confirmed by email and hostess. Celebrant did not know I informed them of her birthday. When I checked in they offered a bottle of champagne, but I turned it down because celebrant does not drink. After we declined dessert, I was expecting something for the celebrant. Nope all we got was the bill. Table next to us also declined dessert, but their celebrant received a small dessert with a lighted candle. Hmmm. I didn’t say anything to the waiter at the table because celebrant didn’t know and I wasn’t going to make a scene for her birthday. I complained at the hostess station after celebrant walked out of the restaurant- received no apologies - nothing. 3) our table was on the rooftop. Fresh air was nice, however the music was so loud we could hardly hear each other 4) Our waiter was funny and charismatic

    Our waiter was Andrew and he was very quiet so we couldn’t really hear him. Other than that he was friendly enough. We had the steak sampler and it was worth it. The meat was delicious. Then we had the dirty hash browns and they were delicious! The charcuterie board is huge so FYI feeds 3 people. And the chocolate mousse cake was amazing as well.

    Have wanted to try this place for a while and all was good except for the steaks which is not ideal at a steak place. Next time we may pop in for a drink at the bar but will skip dining there because if you charge that much for a steak it better deliver and it came up well short.

    I can not express enough how much I love this place. No matter how great the food or drinks are at any place, it means nothing when you have a horrible staff. However, this place has the best of everything! The service here is phenomenal. From the moment I walked in and was greeted by the host, it was all uphill. I waited at the lounge and grabbed a drink while my date was finding parking. Parking is difficult but don’t let that discourage you. Leave early and just be patient. The lounge made me a fantastic drink and I was offered water without asking. This means a lot as I work at a winery and don’t see people drinking enough water. Our food! Dear lord. Even the bread was out of this world. Soft and salted, served with a garlic butter. The corn soup was very tasty and a great compliment for the bread. We ordered the beef Wellington. Keep in mind, it takes a while, but this is clearly stated on the menu. Just relax, talk and order some more of their amazing drinks. Chet Baker, Carls Club and the whiskey smash were beyond good. Well mixed and garnished beautifully. The beef Wellington was damn well worth the wait. Cooked perfectly and the portion size was more than satisfying. They don’t have a dessert menu, they have a cart. Three cake choices and 3 cordials. Beautiful! We ordered the cheesecake and the slice is more than enough for 2. End the night with a cafe. No sugar needed. Finally, another shout out to their staff. Service is impeccable. Our wait staff was attentive, I never ran out of water or had to flag anyone down. They work as a team to make sure your table is clean and ready for the next course. Superb! I will go back any chance I get! Cheers!

    Our server Art was very attentive and knowledgeable. He made our dining experience great. The only issue was my dry-aged ribeye was much too fatty that I had to cut off nearly ¼ off my steak. This was not an issue when I previously dined here.

    Serivce was good, food was great but pricing is bad. Duck for two was over priced. Charged 3 bucks for table side martini, next time I’ll have the bar make it and save the 3 bucks. One dollar for blue cheese stuffed olives for my 20 dollar tito vodka in a glass. Pretty weak. This is one of these places that no matter how bad the services or how expensive the food and drinks cost, people will still come here for the ambience and to have their money stolen out of their pockets by over priced food and drinks. Probably not coming back ever again. And for the love of God create a website that’s more than just landing page with a piece of meat on it and a link to OpenTable. Try acting like a real business with a real website so people can see what you have to offer you cheap losers.

    Had lots of reasons to expect somewhat snooty staff. Once there, this worry quickly evaporated. Open table only offered a 4:45 reservation, and B&R declined to give us an improved time right up to arrival, yet, by the time we finished dinner around 6:30, there were several empty tables which had been empty when we arrived.

    We had a great time at Born and raised. We celebrated my partners birthday with two good friends. Mathew (Matty) made the night perfect with amazing service, funny stories and a wonderful sense of humor. everything we ordered was great from the table side Caesar Salad, ceviche, steaks and of course the dessert. The carrot cake is perfect! For 3 of us it was our first time at Born and Raised and we will for sure be back. Thank you for a great evening!

    We waited to be seated after our reservation time for 30 minutes. We were recommended to get a $250 tomahawk that supposed to feed 4 people - half of the meet came out as only fat, so it was barely enough for 2 people. I haven’t wasted money this way in any restaurant.

    Unfortunately this place was a major disappointment. We ordered the Burgendy Snails, Tableside Tartare, and Bone-In Ribeye, with Mac n’ Cheese and Potato Puree sides. The snails were presented poorly on the inside of the bone, right on top of the marrow. The snails were tasty but very hard to get one nice bite. Too much going on there. On top of that, the bread for the snails was atrocious. It tasted stale and old. We could barely tear into it with our teeth. You would try biting a piece off and since the bread was so bad, everyone would just fall off. The tartare was not bad but nothing special. The tableside worker preparing the tartare had no idea what he was doing. He made a cool experience (tableside service) into a dull one. Wish someone with experience can do that job instead. Lastly the steak. By far the worst steak I have eaten in my life and trust me I know my steaks. I promise you that if you know what a good steak tastes like and how its supposed to be prepared, you will hate this place. I’m glad I did not order the porterhouse because it wouldve been even more of a disappointment. The bone-in ribeye was supposed to be 22 oz, but only about 5-6 oz were edible. The rest of the steak was made up of the bone and fat. The fat is edible but it was so poorly cooked that it was chewy and just flat out disgusting. The edible parts were tasteless so it didnt make up for all the nonedible stuff. If youre like me, you like a nice cap on a ribeye. Well this was terrible. It was charred so much that it tasted like I was eating charcoals. Besides the flaws with the steak in terms of flavor, the steak was super difficult to cute. It was the hardest piece of meat I had ever had to cut. Everything was such a disappointment, I cannot believe a place like this would serve such terrible quality food. And I’m sorry but there was no way the steak was dry-aged even though it was advertised as such. So dry-age taste whatsoever. Please avoid eating here if you can.

    all the chairs are dirty in the rooftop. our service was spotty- great when they were around but slow on the orders drinks forgotten etc and we were very early. definitely needs a good cleaning on rooftop.

    This is at least the fifth time my family and I have been to born and raised. While the food was excellent as it usually is, we were very disappointed in the service tonight. We had a table of five and sat downstairs inside the restaurant. We arrived right on time for our reservation and had to wait in the lounge for an additional 15 minutes. We were seated at a table that was open from at least the time we arrived. Initially, our waiter was very attentive. He took our drink order and even gave suggestions regarding cocktails. However, after that, the service went downhill. Our appetizers, which was an order of shrimp cocktail and Cesar salad for four, came fairly quickly however, our drink order did not arrive until after appetizers were served. It took an additional hour after we ate our appetizers before our steaks were served. Our steaks arrived but we had to wait a few more minutes before our sides arrived afterwards. One of our sides was completely forgotten until the waiter came by and asked us how we were doing and we mentioned we were missing an item. This was the only time our waiter asked us how our dinner was. As the night progressed, we were never asked if we wanted our drinks refilled or additional cocktails. Our water glasses sat empty until we flagged down an unsuspecting waiter who happen to be walking by. We were celebrating two birthdays that night and wanted to order dessert. After 30 minutes and no dessert, we flagged down another waiter, because we could never find our own waiter, and asked them to cancel our dessert and just bring us our check. All in all, dinner for five took over 2 1/2 hours and that was even after canceling dessert because it took so long. I'm not sure what was going on tonight. As I said, the food that did arrive was excellent. The wait staff just didn't seem to care tonight.

    I rarely write reviews. But this experience is so really bad that I have to. We went there to celebrate birthday. Long wait to get the steak…more than an hour. Finally we got the steak but it was COLD and impossible to cut! Even though we were very hungry, we couldn’t swallow it. Had to send the steak back. And the waitress “reminded” us, they will redo it, but for rare+, the steak still won’t be hot. Seriously?! We have been to so many different steakhouses and had dry aged steaks before, we know when the steak isn’t right! What the waitress said isn’t wrong but said that after the restaurant messed up the steak is inappropriate. 30 mins later, got another one which was much better than the first one- at least not cold- but still lack of flavor. In the end, they did give us 15% discount on some items, worth ~$30. But the night was ruined. Besides the steak, the Uni pasta and mushroom were kinda cold too. Only carrot cake and potato puree were good. It’s a cool looking restaurant and nicely decorated. But we will NEVER go back and will tell our friends not to!

    First time, last time. Arrived ten minutes ahead of our reservation for 15 minutes after opening. Restaurant was largely empty and was told we would be seated closer to our reservation time. We sat for about 30 minutes, watching people get seated that came in after us and without reservations. About 15 minutes past our reservation time, I asked one of the staff when we would be seated. She printed our ticket and took us to a table. I can only wonder how much longer we would have been sitting there ignored if we had not spoken up. We were seated and then waited another ten minutes before our waiter came to the table. By the time our drink orders were taken, we had been at the restaurant for almost an hour. The food, when it eventually came, was fine. My steak was mostly fat and inedible but my wife's was good. Sides were unremarkable. All in all, we paid over $300 for a dinner, with extremely slow services, and left extremely disappointed. They appear to want to charge like this is a fine dining experience but they don't staff for, or treat you, to match the price they charge.

    The ambience was amazing! Our service was great and everything was explained to include recommendations. Felt very comfortable and treated with focused attention. Had a great anniversary celebration with my hubby :)
