Was extremely disappointed in the service provided by Born and Raised last night. I have come here multiple times with smaller groups and so I felt confident bringing a larger group here for a birthday dinner. From being seated late to our table to terrible overall service, they made us feel that we were “forgotten” multiple times. Not an experience you want when you are trying to have a lovely meal with a group of friends. I will be back but I will never, ever come in with a large group again. I do not want to be “embarrassed” again.
The atmosphere and food were absolutely fabulous! I would highly recommend this and we will be back!
Amazing Japanese Wagyu. Tasty cocktails and wonderful wine list. Rooftop ambiance is great as well. Servers are super nice and accommodating.
Amazing food. Service was above average but could use and work.
It is pretty loud downstairs
Nice place but food was not as expected, over rated. Too expensive for what we ate.
One of our waiters was rude when asking questions about how we would like our food
We had a gorgeous table, excellent service, super kind staff. Food was not the best we’ve had, but we still had a nice evening. The roof deck is lovely in the summer!
Absolutely a fantastic meal, impressively full whiskey list and some very nice wines in an extensive wine list. I'm very hard to please in a steak house at this price point and was not disappointed. Only thing to mar this wonderful dinning experience was the shrimp cocktail - not at all a classic but chopped shrimp in a half avocado that was drowned in cocktail sauce. I do need to add a similar meal at one of the 3 or so other San Diego Premier Steakhouses would have been about 10% less costly.
This was our second time dinning at BAR. Our first experience was AMAZING, 10/10. Ashley A. was our server and she was quick, helpful and just all around awesome.
This time we had a gentleman waiter who was the opposite. We genuinely felt like we were a bother to him. He didn’t come check on us, we would try to wave him down, but talking to his coworkers, seemed to be him priority.
After bragging about our first experience, this was a huge bummer with our out of state visitor joining us.
Too expensive for the level of service provided. Food took a long time to come out.
One of the best dining experiences we have had in San Diego. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, Roderick was outstanding. Delicious food and drinks, and the ambiance of the entire venue sets Born and Raised apart from other dining experiences.
Our first visit was amazing. Second visit a disappointment - poor food quality, service quality, even cleanliness of dishes. At the price point they charge, quality should be excellent outstanding overall. Consistency is clearly an issue here.
Only comments I have is when I get there and I was told that my reservation was inside and not patio, it is kinda frustrating caused I confirm this reservation a week prior and I was told that I will be dining in the patio
Great food, great service, great time!
The filet was excellent and served to perfection. Sweet potatoes were the best we have ever had. Bothe the cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake were excellent! We will definitely come back.
Once seated the service was great. Food was awesome as always.
Fantastic experience as far as ambience, service and pace of service until we got to our steaks. We had a 10:15 pm reservation and the bar and kitchen told our waiter last call. We ordered our after dinner drink with full glasses of wine to finish so we’d have a cocktail for apre-steak. Then I asked for some cheese - they gave me some on a plate but said the kitchen was closed so no bread or crackers available. I asked for a box and took it home instead. If you give 10:15 reservations out (that was earliest avail 1030 was latest) You need to stay open to finish service for those guests.
Our Reservations were @ 8:30 we didn’t get our dinner until 10:15pm. Service was very slow. Food & ambiance was good.
Not good.. overrated. Terrible customer service.. i think our waiter checked on us twice. The food was mostly good but the carrots side was terrible tasting and the main arrived about 10 min before my crab did which was to eat with the steak. The decor is outdated and tacky.. fake flowers and wood paneling. The waiter included the carrots in our bill even after we did not eat them and i had to ask to have them taken off. We asked for a different side and he said if you are still hungry later i will get you something. No clue why this place is popular or has the reviews it does. Never going back ever.
Definitely worth the pay!!! You get what you pay for. Best steak and Mac & cheese I have ever had.
Wonderful ambiance and evening.
Always wonderful food. The steaks were perfection. The Carrot Cake was amazing and I don’t like carrot cake!
This was for my 40th birthday during reserving it said patio but upon arrive I was told I didn’t reserve patio and was forced to sit inside downstairs, I was extremely disappointed and unhappy but was told there’s nothing they could do. I won’t be going back
I’ve been here twice so far and loved it both times. Obviously if you can get a table upstairs to see the view it’s ideal, but the downstairs is nice and cozy.
The steaks are obviously fantastic, but I’d note that everything else is great also. The house salad was delightful, although perhaps if you dislike dressing ask for half or for it on the side. The dirty hash browns are one of the best sides and a must to anyone who comes here.
I’ve had the wagyu and filet, which were both excellent. We also ordered the dry aged ribeye which was superb.
Note their drinks are great and, in my opinion, strong as well.
The one gripe I may have is that the bathrooms are very odd. The sink is about half a foot wide and below hip level. It makes washing your hands a bit of an ordeal… oh well, it’s well worth the trip.
Came here to celebrate a Sobriety Date. Wonderful lively atmosphere and the waiter never made us feel weird about not drinking. Coffee is outstanding, food is AMAZING. The Wellington is worth the price and the wait.
Food is amazing. Must order Japanese Wagyu
Food was delicious. Service was pretty good except it took a while to get our drinks when we first sat down and the coffee did not make it in time to enjoy with our dessert.
Everything was amazing, from the service to the food. Can’t wait to go back!
Out of state visiting. Was a perfect date night. Would recommend.
Like many other places B&R seems to have problems with finding adequate service staff. Essentially minor things but having been several times, I expect the most proper of services. So being handed my silverware vs it being placed at my space from the left, or a missing serving spoon in the side dishes, is below what I am used to from my favorite San Diego restaurant. Still will always come back here, but hope that the attention to service detail will be regained.
Everything was delish! If you’re going with kids however, keep in mind that they don’t have high chairs, kids menus, or even kid cups.
5/5 Would eat here again.
Restaurant was dirty looking. Steak was cold.
Freaking fantastic! The steak was amazing, service was fantastic! Next time I’m in San Diego, I will revisit!
One of the best meals we have ever had!
Excellent service, amazing steak, unique atmosphere 👌
Had a horrible first impression with the receptionists. There were 3 receptions up front but no one acknowledged our presence for at least 2 minutes. I had to say excuse me to get their attention off the iPad. They then sent us outside to wait when a reservation was made. We waited 15 minutes before I re-entered and asked about our table she was very annoyed I asked and came off rude but we were seated immediately after I asked. With all that being said the food is absolutely amazing. Our waiter was very proper and made the evening special (he had to of asked us how our meal was like 10 times lol). Great night after a horrible first impression.
My girlfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary so we came here for dinner. The staff was aware and gave us complimentary champagne and a dessert macaron at the end of our meal, it was amazing! The whole staff made our first experience here wonderful. The food itself was delicious, and the ambiance and aesthetic of the restaurant was beautiful. I can't wait to come again to try the other dishes.
I don’t know if it was a one off or the quality has gone down. This place used to be an epic experience. This time our steaks were ordered medium rare and came out well done on the outside and raw on the inside.
Trevor was our host, he was very experienced and friendly and all around a great host
Born and Raised exceeded our expectations! This was our first time and wow. The service was outstanding and the food was amazing! We came here for a birthday (we’re from OC) and just wow. Definitely coming here again!
