Bong Bong’s Manila Kanteen in Cambridge Heath is a Filipino street food restaurant with a licence to thrill. The team at this easy-going Hackney Road spot are no strangers to delicious Asian cuisine and invite guests to get stuck in from the get-go. Dishes that deserve special attention include the chicken adobo stew, the grilled soy and ginger pork belly and the roast aubergine kare kare – a heartwarming curry with coconut, peanuts and turmeric. Add in to the mix the venue’s relaxed vibes and eclectic decor and you’ll soon see why Bong Bong’s attracts diners from all four corners of London. Arriving with a table reservation is highly recommended.

Found out about this place in the Guardian and we’ve brought 2 couples here since. The adobo cauliflower and the aubergine curry are delicious and I’m definitely not a vegetarian!

Very basic, unexceptional but fairly tasty, the wrong end of shabby-chic where it just looks like a student flat. Not very special at all, not worth a trip. Waiter did a decent job. Limited menu with three things unavailable.
