Soooooo disappointed! We have been going to Bonton Cafe since the early 90's and even got engaged there in 1996. We were so sad when it closed. When we heard they were re-opening under a new name, we weren't sure if it was the same owners, so we decided to give it a try this last weekend during our stay. Unfortunately, it is not the same owners, and it was quite disappointing. On a positive note, even though we loved the historical old restaurant with the red and white table cloths, the rebuild of the inside is actually really nice! The bar looks great and the vibe is really cool. But sadly the food was not great. The new concept is a steakhouse, as the name is Bonton Prime Rib, but apparently, they only kept part of the name as a homage to the history - they don't have any of the menu items or recipes from Bonton Cafe. There are only 3 appetizers. The crabmeat au gratin was terrible. It was like soup. The crab cakes were alot of crab, but just didn't taste very fresh. I think even though they tried to change direction to a steakhouse, in my opinion, it would have been a good idea (if possible) to keep some of the traditional seafood recipes. The old bread pudding was amazing - but again not on this menu. Anyway, if you never went to Bonton Cafe before and are in the mood for a steakhouse on Magazine, then give it a try. The bar is nice. But if you ever went to Bonton Cafe before, I think you will be greatly disappointed, as well. New Orleans has way too many great options for a bad experience.

We had a great experience dining at the bar. Originally, we booked for the dining room but got lucky and snagged two seats at the bar while waiting for our table. After enjoying our first drink and deciding to sit at the bar for dinner, everything was on point. The two female bartenders took great care of us, timed our food perfectly and kept our drinks full. Just as good as the service was the food. Filet and Strip cooked to perfection. The Bon Ton oysters are a must try dish. We will be back and definitely dining at the bar!

Terrible 32 year anniversary choice! Prime rib medium choice was under cooked. I chose a medium ribeye instead and it came to the table in less than 5 minutes and interior was cold! Spoke with manager and she only took the steak off our bill and charged for my wife’s meal as well as the 2 sided we didn’t eat! That was probably the worst part of the experience was how the manager handled the entire situation!

Our waiter Sam was so good! Very polite, knowledgeable and funny. We will definitely be coming back, AND requesting Sam!

Absolutely the best food, cocktails, wine and service we had during our six day visit to New Orleans. Better than Antione, Arnaud, Mr. B’s Bistro, Nobu and Commander’s Palace—and all were very good, but Ron Ton was superb. Brooke was our server and the prime rib, filets, fish and every side dish and even the deserts she recommended were extraordinary. A special shout out to Brooke for one the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. She made the evening wonderful and we will come back soon.

Let me just begin by saying the food was very very good. It’s worth every penny. When arriving for my 8 PM reservation it took about 25 minutes for us to get seated. The restaurant was a little warm. I was told someone was working on the AC. The valet guy outside was great even though he was bombarded with a lot of cars. Brooke, our server was great.

Everything was great .. Our server, Brooke was fantastic… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1st time here with the family , will definitely b back again. Brooke was super attentive, knowledgeable about the menu , friendly, chill , attentive, highly recommend her … Food was great , we had the prime rib which was perfectly cooked, she offered to cut it for us. We also got the Cajun steak, bon ton oysters, bbq shrimp, crab cake, the mac and cheese was okay, but the corn cafferole was so good, along with the romaine Cesar and the seafood bisque is the best. Brooke was witty, attentive, friendly and helpful with some of the questions we had.

Remake of the Old Bon Ton Cafe. Father's Day eve celebration. The service was very good with Antonio and other staff. However, the AC was not working well at all, and here we are in June in New Orleans. We were sweating and uncomfortable much of the time. Manager apologized, but did nothing to compensate, such as comping our drinks. It was bad enough that we had to leave sooner due to the heat. Steaks were good, but the vaunted prime rib was bland and unexceptional. Sides of brussel sprouts and crawfish mac and cheese were not very good. Overall, a rather disappointing evening.
