Great place for drink and some light food downtown
"Energetic" is not the word I would use to describe the noise level. Drunken sports bar is more appropriate. Ruined the overall aesthetic of the restaurant.
Fun place and great ambiance. Interesting cocktails. Went before opera. Though menu is limited, we had choices and plenty to eat.
Wine was ok, I am wondering why the yuca fries tasted extremely lemony and salty
Food is okay, but not AMAZING. Menu is very limited. Ambience is nice and with a rooftop view!
The food was excellent and the ceviche was amazing we had to order it twice tonight. Drinks were well done and the servers was very professional. The best part of tonight was when we were seated the table began to move off balance and immediately our sever noticed it and fixed the table right away. It’s the little things like this that makes a place reputation go above and beyond. I’ve been in places where similar situations have occurred and you have to remind the servers about the issues multiple times before it is fixed.
Very limited menu - not many vegetarian options.
I went better restaurants. Rushed services even tho restaurant was empty and early sitting.
Great food. Small menu but good for sharing.
Food was salty and server told us it was just the Peruvian style.
They had run out of chicken empanadas by early in the dinner service
Cookies that server gave us as a complimentary dessert were the best thing we ate.
Ambiance good except music super loud
Server was terrific.
Great atmosphere and excellent cocktails
Boleo was fantastic. Excellent value and the food was amazing.
Service was pretty bad and food was average. I had much higher expectations. Would not return..
Well I came in out of town to celebrate my birthday and saw this restaurant. Made a reservation weeks in advance, arrived and the hostess was very excited to see us coming in and knew we were celebrating a birthday. So far so good right… wrong. The decor is very nice and has a nice location but that’s where the nicest stops. Our waiter who I believe was named Alfredo came to take our drink order he recommended some presidente drink and said it was very good and fruity like we liked. Well that was not the case it was FILLED TO THE BRIM IN ICE had no fruity flavor. We looked at the menu which is VERY VERY SMALL AND LIMITED but decided we would go with something basic since the pictures we had seen when booking were not on the menu. We tried to order food twice but every time our waiter walked away expeditiously before we could even finish a sentence. After not liking the drinks and not having good customer service by the waiter and not being able to order a meal and celebrate my birthday, it was time for us to go. We were finally able to flag down the waiter to ask for the check!! Plot twist we NEVER ate any food only subpar drinks and had a bill of SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS!! Was it worth is no… the experience was bad, the waiters service was bad, the menu options were poor, I didn’t enjoy it one bit. We stayed at Boleo for less than 40 minutes when my reservation was for an hour and forty five minutes. I would not recommend this restaurant at all and especially not for a special occasion. Extremely disappointed my party and I ended up having to find another place to go to for a meal. All in all this has been the worst restaurant I’ve experienced while visiting Chicago.
We were the first diners for the evening so the restaurant was quiet and service was prompt. The specialty cocktails were wonderful and the food was creative and well prepared. We enjoyed sitting beneath the massive open skylight (outdoors, indoors). We will return.
Nice ambience with the open roof. Service was well-paced. Drinks and food were delicious.
This was the worst dining experience that we may have ever had. When you enter the hotel, there’s an exquisite marble entryway that’s beautiful, after seeing that I would recommend you leave. We were seated right away and despite not being full, they are still seating tables quite close - if I reached my arm out on either side I would have hit someone. Our table was also dirty so they had to come out and clean it from the previous guests. They had a lovely bus boy who quickly greeted us. Our server took forever and could barely give any insight on the food or recommendations. We ordered an appetizer and drinks. About 15 minutes later our drinks came and we ordered dinner. Our appetizer never came, but our dinner came about 10 minutes after we ordered it. When we cancelled the appetizer our waiter looked appalled. For our main course we ordered the fried rice; it was good, but nothing to write home about. We also ordered the skirt steak on fries. It came with maybe 10 small pieces of steak and the the entire plate was covered in peppers; I expected a higher meat to peppers ratio. There were about 10 fries and they were good.
The rooftop was closed due to the rain, so I can’t comment on that.
This could be a really amazing restaurant, but the service and food was terrible.
Great food and ambience!
My friends and I sat for 45 minutes prior to getting our drinks. We had to search out a server, and it still took another 30 to get the drinks/food out. Food came out before silverware. It was a bit of a disaster.
I came for my birthday, also stated that when making my reservation. We were seated right away which was nice, at first glance the place is small, the photos are a bit deceiving. When our waitress, Malika arrived she immediately asked us for our drinks. And this is were the good service ends. After about 15 minutes of waiting for 2 sodas, and 2 pisco sours she returns ready to take our order. The menu is so small that we were ready to order within 5 minutes but she was no where to be found. We place our order and not long after our chicken empanadas come out, those were delicious. We wait just a couple of more minutes 2 entrees come out. Now I’m used to all the entrees coming out at the same time but they didn’t. The limo was more vegetables than meat. Roughly 20 minutes go by and then the rest of the entrees come out, the smallest piece of res I have seen. But that wasn’t the issue, for $30 a plate the meat came with no sides. At this point we have been here for an hr and not once has our waitresses returned to ask if we needed refills or just how we were doing. Absolutely terrible service. We are ready for our check and are trying to get her attention, either she truly didn’t see us or she was ignoring us because both the hostess and another which were both standing next to her saw us, but she didn’t. The other waiter comes by to tell us that she will be right with us. We see her coming, my hand still in the air and she passes right by us and goes to another table. The other waiter sees this and comes and asks what we need. We ask for the check. She sees this and then comes by. We finally get our check and it takes another 30mins for us to be checked out. Overall it was really bad service, will not be returning and would not recommend.
The pork sliders were amazing, we had to get two rounds! Drinks were good as well. All their plates are meant to be shared.
We had a birthday/family celebration here. It’s expensive for what it is. Service was not great, and the food was just okay. It’s not true Peruvian food. The tasting plates are expensive for what they are.
It was okay the drinks were decent but expensive and the food portions were very small, I would recommend going just for drinks and maybe a snack before going out to dinner
Good drinks and great food, but the service is very slow. I would recommend ordering two drinks at a time. The food came out very fast, though, and was extremely tasty.
Great tapas at the same spot we had our rehearsal dinner
We went to Boleo after almost 2 years. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent like before. The ambiance was perfect with very high energy (likely because a bachelor party was on). Enjoyed it very much.
Awesome place to visit. Unique menu and tasty surprises. The Capirihna drink and pollo a la brasa appetizer are highly recommended.
Entire glass of wine spilt on me by the waiter who proceeded to run away from the situation. Another waiter came over to offer us a “free ice cream” to apologize. Look at the menu and it is the cheapest thing on the menu: $3. Then, the waiter had the audacity to bring me the check with the wine spilt on me INCLUDED. Manager did not come out to apologize as well. Brutal experience for as nice of a restaurant as it first seemed.
The service left a lot to be desired. I’d be hard pressed finding myself make a reservation here again.
Not really a rooftop feel ; hard to describe but was able to be elegant and simple at the same time
Loved it. Service was a little slow but understandably so. Seemed understaffed. Food and drinks were 10/10. Great spot.
Great rooftop in the loop. Would recommend for drinks!
Not an actual rooftop. Food was mediocre. Would not return.
Boleo was great for a fun, relaxed dinner! Keep in mind that plates are tapas style, so fairly small and meant to be shared. Make sure to ask the waiter how many pieces come with one order so everyone gets some! Our waiter Ray was great and made amazing recommendations--I was clueless about the drink menu, but he recommended the Esta Vez which I was OBSESSED with. The food was all delicious, unique, and exciting!
I loved the ambience. incredibly efficient service, attentive. however some of their food items were a bit too salty and requires a bit more quantity especially for the price. however overall it was great
Loved it! Perfect date night location. Go! Experience and enjoy!
Casual young crowd. Limited menu. Great open air ambiance
Not good at all. Waiter said she was tired. Food was not good. Peruvian place but no ceviche! Weird.
Great service! Creative drinks! Delicious food! Loved the ambiance!
Boleo is one of my top places for good drinks and a bite. It's especially nice when the roof is open
Everything was perfect. service, atmosphere, even the couple next to us was nice to converse with.
