Michelin starred Boka Restaurant has been a fixture in Chicago dining since 2003. In January 2014, Chef Lee Wolen joined as Executive Chef/Partner after the restaurant underwent a major renovation. Since his time at Boka, critics have taken notice. Phil Vettel of Chicago Tribune and Eater Chicago both named Lee as “2014 Chef of the Year.” Most recently, Lee was named 2015 “Chef of the Year." Boka’s food features contemporary, American cuisine, focusing on seasonality and sourcing as many local ingredients as possible.

Disclaimer - My favorite US restaurant is Oriole. Sadly it was under construction and decided to go to Boka because the menu looked tasted. The food itself was top notch. I am a fish hater, I've always hated the taste and flavor (except for sushi). There is something about the texture when it's cooked that my body does not like.

THIS WAS THE MOST FLAVORFUL FISH I'VE EVER HAD!

The fish was lovely and had me dancing in my seat. Everything else was wonderful because I expected it to be because they were all proteins that I liked.

Hidden secret, I didn't see it on the menu but they have a non-alcoholic drink pairing. I always love these at restaurants because I feel as if the restaurant puts in more thought and creativity. Again, maybe unfair to make an Oriole comparison but their non-alcohol pairing was top notch before the dish, during the dish, and after the dish. At Boka, some of the drinks were offensive on the initial sip, then, while eating, if I took another sip the drink was very tasty. If I had any leftover beverage after eating, if my tongue settled down and I took a sip the drink was offensive again. I only purely thoroughly enjoyed 2 out of the 4 drinks given. (Each drink was paired with 2 dishes according to the menu)

Wonderful experience. Augustus was our waiter and was outstanding. The food was amazing. Our dining partners had given up wine for Lent, so we'll have to come back for that experience.

The chef's tasting menu was AMAZING!! Highly recommend. We got the reserve wine pairing as well which really complimented every dish. Service was excellent! Each of the cocktails we tried was perfect as well!

My girlfriend and I had an excellent anniversary dinner here! It has a great, intimate atmosphere, especially during covid. The food here was the best food I’ve eaten since the start of the pandemic. I can’t remember the last time I’ve eaten literally piece of food off of every plate at a meal. We had a wonderful time.

Fantastic evening with friends celebrating their engagement! We did the tasting menu + wine pairing and it couldn’t have been better. Not having to decide anything and being pleasantly surprised course after course + learning about new wines as it progressed was such a treat. We haven’t dined out like this in a year because of covid so this was EXTRA special! Thank you Boka team & Chef Wolen, unreal!

What a great experience. Our server was amazing. There was no one less than 20 feet around us from other diners at any time. Strict mask policy. Made us feel safe and we had a lovely time.

Delicious meal for my mother in law's bday. We had a party of 6. We felt very safe - restaurant had other customers but the tables are spaced much further than 6 ft away so we weren't close to any strangers. Everyone had an appetizer and entree then we got a few desserts. Service was very professional and nice. They accommodated our dietary restrictions (some gluten free, one who doesn't want any garlic, a few who want all sauces on the side) with no issues. I've been coming to BOKA since it opened prob 18 or more yrs ago. It has always been a wonderful place to go with great food in a great atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Food was as to be expected, amazing. Had an early Valentine's day and of course got the tasting menu's. They even made some mock cocktails for me to pair with dessert which was very fitting. Had 2 desserts, one which was supposed to be a pallet cleanser but honestly was WAY more memorable and awesome than the main dessert. Definitely worth the trip and honestly, it is sad to say but during Covid it really is a better event because there are fewer people and the romantic ambiance is more about the two of you.

Everything was outstanding, the octopus and duck were unbelievable good. In the end, they even had a slice of chocolate cake for my girlfriend’s birthday. Highly recommend

Our server, Augustus, was amazing. The rest of the staff was great as well. Did the tasting menu and it was great. Short rib was the best piece of meat I ever ate.

My Fiancé and I were celebrating our anniversary and proposed at the restaurant. Servers we great, very attentive and even brought out complimentary champagne, chocolates, and printed the menu with the date and the occasion as a keepsake. We had a wonderful experience and everyone working is extremely knowledgeable about all the dishes and super attentive

Food was pretty good. Staff was very nice. They provided some really nice gestures like a free dessert and a personalized copy of the menu. We were seated outside of the restaurant in the front and felt excluded from the ambience on the inside. Granted we did have to reschedule our reservation and this is probably why we had the seat we did. Inside of the restaurant has an impressive ambience.

We went here as our last supper before the latest COVID shut down and to celebrate my husband and his law partner buying their law firm. Boka did not disappoint! We all ordered the 5 course tasting menu with drink pairings. It was truly amazing and my husband and I had trouble deciding what our favorite course was. The first course with uni and smoked trout roe was delicious and was paired with a local cider, which was unexpected yet perfect. My other favorite was the dry aged duck with salted peppercorns paired with a grenache blend from Chateauneuf-du-Pape. However, the black bass with cauliflower and paired with a white rioja was delightful too! Each course was magical, especially the pre-dessert that technically made the dinner 6 courses. The servers were amazing and knowledgeable about each course and the drink pairings. One might expect the atmosphere of a restaurant on this level to be stuffy but it was not. There were couples as well as groups of people clearly enjoying themselves and having a good time.

Didn’t like our steak at all, it tasted very strange and gamey. Service was slow but okay. The waiter kept walking away so fast before we could ask questions so everything just took forever. I wouldn’t go back.

All courses were delicious. Service was good but not Michelin star good. Expected better explanations/descriptions for tasting menu courses. We had to pour our own wine several times. Hoped for a more interactive engaging experience for a chef’s tasting menu. Given COVID restrictions, we were pleased they were open and thought they probably did the best they could.

Went to Boka to celebrate a milestone anniversary. We had the tasting menu which was wonderful. The service was amazing! We will definitely be back.

We had the 5 course tasting menu.

The Uni cream did not have enough Uni flavor. A lot of cream, needed something to absorb the heaviness of it all.

Raw fish was really good. Toasted quinoa add nice texture to it. The tomato broth really brought it together well.

Black sea bass was extremely good. The squash was cooked very well and the cauliflower purée was excellent, especially with the small balls of lime flavor.

New York strip was very flavorful and tender. The brown mousse like thing wasn’t really needed and took away from the dish as it masked the beefy flavor of the steak

Grape dessert was very refreshing and not too sweet. Cheese cream was the star. Would’ve liked a little more of a crunchy component besides the meringue or even more of the meringue itself

Chocolate dessert was really decadent with a slight bitterness. The added lime flavorful brought a nice contrast to the chocolate
