Fabulous as always! Excellent service, delicious food and wonderful ambiance.
the food was so spectacular that i can’t even find the words to describe it! the service and presentation were unrivaled and the evening altogether was wonderful. at the time of booking my reservation, there was only space at the bar. i was unsure what kind of dining experience i would have seated at the bar, but make no mistake, there were no short comings. attention to detail was ever so present and they exceeded my already high expectations. i would definitely eat there again shall i find myself in chicago.
Espectacular! Comida increíble de altísima calidad, gran atención, lugar discreto pero me encantó la decoración. Festeje mi cumpleaños, no podría haber salido mas satisfecha.
Good tasting menu. Lamb dish was amazing.
For a special occasion, the tasting menu was exquisite with wine that was perfectly paired to each course. We will definitely be back to try the a la carte menu.
The staff at Boka made my son’s birthday extra special. Thank you!
This was my first time dining at Boka and based on all of their excellent reviews on Yelp and Opentable, I was very excited. This restaurant was also recommended to me by a colleague. My partner and I decided to do the tasting menu, but at the end of the night we were very disappointed. The pace of the meal was a little too slow (3.5 hours for 8 courses) and the dishes were very boring. The duck course was delicious, but nothing exceptionally special, and is the only dish I remember from the tasting menu. (We dined there two days ago). We also ordered the octopus a la carte and that dish was much better than anything on the tasting menu. After dinner I met up with some friends and warned them not to try the tasting menu from here, not worth the money and time. I honestly really want to give Boka another chance, but I don’t think I can convince my partner to come back. Very surprised this is a Michelin star restaurant.
Alone at the bar, I enjoyed the eight courses with wine pairing, all quite good to delightful.
Great food. Great service. Great value (compared to NYC)
We are on the rear patio. Service and food were very nice.
Great food, excellent service and very intimate. Would definitely go again.
We went to celebrate an early wedding anniversary at Boka and were extremely disappointed with everything. The restaurant is quite dark and dingy. After we got there, I did request outside patio which they were not able to accommodate. The server was also very tepid, not very engaged. I guess the expectation was for us to do the tasting menu but looking at the ambiance, I was not sure if I wanted to try that out. So we ordered a la carte. The food was mediocre at best. We had the Kampachi, beef tartare and octopus for our appetizers. Beef tartare did not taste fresh and octopus tasted like nothing. The kampachi was the only dish that was flavorful. I had the dry aged duck for my main course and my husband had roasted chicken along with a bottle of wine. Pretty decent but again nothing to write home about. We had a dessert which was forgettable. The most astounding aspect of the experience was that people in hospitality industry have struggled so much during the last year and when you have customers who are willing to drop in a pretty penny for your restaurant, you really need to focus on delivering a very high quality experience (Michelin star or not). If we learnt anything from last year it is that we could eat and do pretty much everything at home. So if people come to your restaurant to dine or celebrate, please make sure you are doing the best you can for them to have a memorable experience. I would not recommend this place at all, neither for celebration nor for general dining. There are lots of great options in a city like Chicago. Skip this one!
Absolutely amazing as always. Wonderful service, beautiful food, cannot think of one bad thing to say.
Absolutely stunning food. Highly recommend everything we had: the ricotta ravioli, the kampachi crudo, the dry aged duck, and the roast blueberry for dessert. Our waiter was so friendly, too! My mother mentioned that I’m starting college in Chicago, so he asked the chef to write “Good luck” on the dessert, completely unprompted.
Fantastic food. The 8 course tasting menu is an amazing culinary journey and the wine pairing complimented the dishes very well. Creative appetizers and wonderful fish (Tasmanian trout), dry-aged duck and lamb courses with very thoughtful sides, sauces and garnishes, not to mention the unique and delicious deserts (the sesame ice cream was incredible). Service was wonderful as well (with some beautiful touches for a birthday) and always willing to add interesting insights for the different courses and wines. Only critique point would be the temperature inside: we personally felt like the air conditioning was slightly unpleasant, but it was a warm evening outside. Overall, the dinner at Boka was a beautiful experience!
Amazing food and wait staff is super attentive!
fantastic from start to finish. the food was incredible, drinks hit the spot. chatted with my bartenders (Jesse and I didn’t catch her name cuz I’m the worst) about where to get the best cookie in Chicago and they BROUGHT ME A COOKIE from another concept in the restaurant group. fan for life!
Augustus was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. Thank you. Food was also outstanding, was hard to pick a favorite dish. Highly suggest the tasting menu
Excelent and knowledgeable service. Amazing food and interesting wines. Will be back for the duck.
Excellent overall experience
Jack my waiter listened and provided 2 outstanding wine selections that were not on the printed menu.
The first course ravioli was outstanding.
Amazing food , incredible cocktails, and fabulous service. I cannot recommend Boka enough, make your reservations
We were celebrating a special occasion and ordered the tasting menu. They worked hard to make sure our experience was excellent but also personalized and they did an amazing job. I will definitely be going again!
This was our most favorite dining experience from our weekend in Chicago. The ambiance was lovely and our server, Augustus, was a gem! We ordered two appetizers: ravioli ricotta was amazing and my boyfriend’s favorite, and the octopus which was also amazing and my favorite. We ordered the trout for our main course and it was ok. There were 5 items to choose from on the main course menu, and we wish we would have chosen the steak option in hindsight. The hazelnut dessert was our favorite items we had all weekend. So delicious and plenty to share with someone.
We will absolutely be back, and couldn’t recommend it enough!
Boka's usual level of service excellence was not up to standard this evening. Our waiter avoided us for most of the evening but provided excellent service to the table right next to us, while blatantly avoiding eye contact. Perhaps we were treated differently because of our race? Overall food was great but poor service left a bitter aftertaste.
Innovative drinks and food. Every dish was delicious. Service was exceptional!
Another great experience. Treated us very well on my girlfriend's birthday with a creative, tasty, and (importantly) filling tasting menu! The sweet corn mousse with caviar was particularly special. Not an everyday affair but we will be back for the next special occasion.
I e been here multiple times. It’s always excellent. The sommelier is excellent giving recommendations for wine and has a lot of enthusiasm for our questions.
Went here to celebrate my sister's birthday and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked past the valet stand to the moment we left, everyone was welcoming and friendly and it was not as pretentious as some of the other Michelin-starred restaurant we've been to in the past. The server was so attentive and made some fantastic suggestions for us. BOKA is a fantastic place for a celebration.
Both the food and service were excellent and well worth the cost. However my only complaint is that where we were seated was quite warm. Would definitely have appreciated a cooler spot.
Boka's tasting menu was just what we wanted. Each selection was well curated and delicious. They asked ahead of time if there were any allergies or preferences positive or negative. We had none, but if we did it was nice to know they would have taken them into consideration. The service was exceptional. We had multiple people waiting on us and they each described each course in detail. All staff wore masks and kept their distance. The pacing of each course was perfection. Timed not too quickly so we had time to settle and cleanse our palates. Not too slowly so that we were overly anxious.
The duck and lamb were divine. The duck in particular was fantastic and paired well with the sauces and garnishes. The lamb was also very good and paired perfectly. The desserts were delicious and they even sent us home each with a small cake. It was a lovely evening all around.
Excellent venue. Highly recommended!
Excellent from beginning to end. Service on point. Best summer season dishes we had were the Duck (skin on the breast was perfect and so was the seasoning, the duck leg in the bowl was the stiff dreams are made of)and Beef Tartare (it blows my mind how simple and elegant the peas pair with the beef. Two ingredients working in perfect tasty harmony)Thanks for being awesome.
Great food and service
Our experience quite disappointing considering our excitement and the rave reviews. Based on our so-so experience I would maybe recommend it for a regular dinner if you have money to throw away, but definitely not for something special like a birthday or anniversary, especially if you are saving up to splurge. Perhaps it is not always like this, but our experience was lacking in ambience and food quality. First, throughout the evening we kept getting whiffs of the bathroom (which was close by), this put a huge damper on the romantic environment and the overall dining experience. It was very noticeable. For food, we started with the summer cucumbers, octopus and ravioli. The ravioli had great flavor but was quite cold, maybe room temperature, and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while before we got it. We were very excited to try to octopus since it is a dish that needs be done just right, and Boka seemed like the kind of place that would not disappoint. However, it was obviously cooked improperly as it had the consistency of very hard rubber bands and was nearly impossible to chew and the over-salted sauce did not help, in my opinion. We barely ate it. Although they were nice enough to remove it from the bill, we had looked forward to trying Boka's take on octopus as we are avid fans of it. For main dishes we had the roasted chicken and dry aged striploin. The striploin was delicious, but the roasted chicken very disappointing. It tasted distinctly like duck, as if it had been roasted alongside a full tray of duck! While I love duck, I do not want my chicken tasting like it. I would not recommend this dish, especially if you do not like duck in the first place. We came to this restaurant with very high expectations, but it was not the memorable exciting experience we had hoped for. The service was nice, they are very knowledgeable and try to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Maybe someday we will try it again and have better luck!
Extravagantly delicious food in a quiet setting. It was a perfect setting for an anniversary dinner.
Great dinner at our favorite in Chicago. Always a pleasurable experience.
Another great meal at Boka. Sat at the bar and had great conversation. The highlight, as usual, was the duck! Always consistent and always delicious.
We went for our anniversary and the staff and restaurant truly made it feel special! From printed menus to special dessert, it was a great way to spend the occasion!
Service and atmosphere was great, but the food was just mediocre. One drink blew me away, one appetizer was good, and the rest was mediocre (3 different apps + 3 different main courses, 3 different drinks for 3 people).
