Bodega SF is an evolution of Matthew Ho’s family's restaurant, Bodega Bistro, which operated from 2003-2017 out of San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, serving traditional Northern Vietnamese cuisine. The brand’s success continued as Ho organized pop-up events, eventually transitioning to meal packages throughout the pandemic to meet demand. In 2022, Ho and his partners opened Bodega SF’s brick-and-mortar location, again located in the Tenderloin District, bringing high-quality Vietnamese cuisine back to the community with a modernized, casual fine dining experience. The family-style concept allows visitors to sample its variety of authentic, creative dishes.

The food was delicious - I am Vietnamese and it was a high end take on traditional food while still affordable. My colleagues particularly enjoyed the Banh Cuon, Bun Cha, Pho, Green beans, and the mochi cake. The truffle seemed to overpower the fried rice. We wanted to try the Banh Khot but the caviar made it a little too expensive. Overall, great vibes, service and food.

horrible food had stones in mushroom caused me gastritis we immediately returned everything including lamb which was overcooked and rubbery they still charged us

We went for our anniversary dinner and opted to get the tasting menu (which was $90 per person.) It was composed of 8 dishes with a slice of pistachio nut crepe cake (which melted in our mouths!) The 8 dishes varied in flavors and was quite filling. I had to take to go container home! Service was attentive and the timing of the dishes coming out was on point. The atmosphere is lively, with pleasant decor and lighting (I could read the menu!)

After having Bodega reviewed on Check Please convinced me to give it a try. The menu is compact, but covers all the bases in taste and execution. The lamb chops were huge and cooked to perfection, and the velvety sauce took it to another level. The presentation of the short ribs was very unique with the huge bone sitting alongside the meat. The papaya salad with the beef jerky is now my favorite version. Can’t wait to return to Bodega to try their lunch menu.

I wanted to give this five stars and the food is outstanding. The food is six stars. But our waiter was inattentive (but not the folks who delivered the food to our table) and the place is loud. I am old (50+) so factor that in. I loved the food though and will go back.

What a great surprise! Food was excellent, a tasting experience , this was not all out of the same pot. Service was great and very helpful on selection and how best to enjoy the presentation. Bodega SF is now at the top of our go to list. There is a reason for reservations at dinner time.

Great cocktail program. Had the short rib the first time and it was epic, not so much the second time as it was not served on the bone and was covered in gravy this time around. I preferred it on the bone with a slight sear to give it slight bite and more texture. Mussels dish was delightful and had a bit of spice in it. Great place for a pre show bite.
