Bodega SF is an evolution of Matthew Ho’s family's restaurant, Bodega Bistro, which operated from 2003-2017 out of San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, serving traditional Northern Vietnamese cuisine. The brand’s success continued as Ho organized pop-up events, eventually transitioning to meal packages throughout the pandemic to meet demand. In 2022, Ho and his partners opened Bodega SF’s brick-and-mortar location, again located in the Tenderloin District, bringing high-quality Vietnamese cuisine back to the community with a modernized, casual fine dining experience. The family-style concept allows visitors to sample its variety of authentic, creative dishes.

We came here in SF for 3 days, and we came to Bodega SF to eat for 3 days in a roll. The beef pho is my definitely favorite , super yummy!

Had a yummy dinner. The Banh Cuon was excellent. Better than what we had in Hanoi because the rice noodle wrap was very thin. The Bun Cha was also excellent. The broth and the meatball patties and pork belly was super flavorful. the shiso leaves added a really nice flavor. The sautéed mushrooms and the kale and avocado salad were also excellent. The downside was the entrée of the Chilean Seabass. It was well cooked, but didn’t have much in the way of seasoning. Definitely bland compared to seabass that we’ve had at Thai restaurants, for example. The main downside is the price. While we didn’t expect that it would be a bargain (recently returned from a trip to Vietnam), it’s really priced as a standard high-end SF restaurant. Maybe skip the entrees and stick with the traditional Vietnamese dishes.

Sunday brunch was not crowded at all - very quiet and easy to get reservation. Brunch menu had several options - we had shaking beef, hoi nan chicken, pork belly & sausage. All very tasty but probably a tad salty for my appetite. Thai ice tea from the bar was decent but such a small glass for a beverage that should've been larger. We did not try their dessert menu as we needed to leave for the theater performance but I hear that their pandan butter mochi is excellent so I will need to go back just for to try! Overall , decent brunch and very convenient to Golden Gate theater. I need to go back to try their dinner menu!

Food was nice. Very tasty. Was rushed out of restaurant as passive aggressive retaliation for advance asking to waive a cake cutting fee that is not stated in menu or on website. Tarnished a nice celebratory experience.

Food was absolutely incredible. Such a great, modern take on Vietnamese cuisine. Everything we had was perfect and the service was very helpful and accommodating. Truly one of the best meals we all had in a while. Will be back.

We did the Chef's Tasting menu and were not disappointed. Generous portions, amazing combinations of flavors and textures, sampling across the menu. Friendly and informative staff was cherry on top.

Bodega was a great surprise for pre-show diner in the sparse West of Union Square area! The outside is unassuming but the interior has a warm and somewhat deco decor. My daughter and I shared a corner table with banquet that was cozy and quiet enough for conversation. The standout dishes for us were the mushrooms and Chilean Seabass. The eggplant and tofu was also great. While fine, the deconstructed noodles, greens, seafood, and nuoc mam dish was somewhat awkward to eat. We had to de-stem all of the herbs ourselves, cut the lettuce and stir it up. I’d rather have it prepared for me, thank you. And the mocktails were delicious! The dessert crepe cake looked pretty but wasn’t bursting with flavor. I will definitely come back again when I’m the area.

Recently had a poor experience with a server during dinner time, but enjoyed the food so much we wanted to circle back around and try the lunch menu in hopes of a better experience. We were wrong. The gentleman we interacted with this time was worse than the last. Will not be returning and have taken my complaints to Yelp and will have the others that joined me here for the past 2 meals do the same. At these prices you need to do better!

Fantastic experience from the accomodaing hostess to the bartender who gave great advice on food and drinks. I loved my cocktail. The food was amazing! Each dish was unique and incredibly flavorful. I went with foodie friends and we all left happy. I can’t wait to go back, the challenge will be deciding whether to eat what I had or try some new thing new :-)
