Blue Martini Jazz Cafe
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We went to the Blue Martini Jazz Cafe as it was rated as the top place by Georgia Straight readers for a dinner club. We chose this venue specifically to listen to jazz as we could have gone anywhere for dinner. While the food and service were good we were not impressed when the band was a no show due to the singer being sick. We paid for 2 extra hours of expensive parking because we knew we'd want to listen to music. Our server gave us two comp cover charge tickets for another night in lieu but we won't be back so that was of no use to us and we're still out of pocket for parking. If this business's main attraction is Jazz then every effort should be made to provide that experience and not disappoint guests. And while stuff happens other arrangements should be made for a backup band.
Would had liked a better table, the table was small in a very cramped area.
Thanks to the staff at the Blue Martini for the wonderful service and to Uno Mas for the awesome entertaining ... one of my favorite local bands.
Great atmosphere , service and food. Only thing is that the volume of the band playing is a little above being able to talk at the table. Might have just been the one band, but a little lower would make it perfect
We unfortunately chose a night when live music wasn’t playing so it was quite empty, we had a good laugh as the waiter and chef had a bet going on the raptors game but it meant it took a while to get his attention.
Food was very good and the recommendations and knowledge of the food was very good, great flavour and good portion size.
We’d go back to check out a live music night!
My friend and I came to the BMJC to experience the music and celebrate my birthday, neither of us had ever been there before.
The food was really great and the atmosphere was fun and lively, but subdued enough to chill.
The staff were amazing, Taliz, Carlos and Mauricio (who was outside but we had a chat), they made it very enjoyable, so engaging and attentive. The band sang HB to me which was totally unexpected, and we received a complimentary piece of marvelous cake plated with a rim of rasberry sauce saying HB-Yummy!! We had a fabulous time and raved about it to other friends- we will definitely be back, Thanks so much for a memorable birthday!!
Live jazz in Kits! The food and service were terrific as well.
We were there on a sunny Vancouver spring evening, and there is a patio facing Yew. Hard choice to make to go into the darker interior of the restaurant, but it was worth it to listen to live music.
Admittedly, we had to time our dinner conversation with an out of town friend around the music, but it was worth it. Out of town friend raved about what a fun place Vancouver is.
We shared plates of pasta, ribs, chicken and the staff were accommodating with bringing serving spoons and extra plates without even being asked. The star dish of the evening was a pear sorbet which is made on site.
We enjoyed the entire evening. The band was excellent. The ambience too!
Good venue for live music, but food is poor quality and very expensive. Would go for music and a glass of wine, but wouldn’t eat there again.
The Early menu is good value otherwise the restaurant is quite expensive. It's unfortunate, as in the past they were very generous with their Groupon offers so we know how good the food is. The coffee was terrible and was $5.00 a cup. We should have had that taken off the bill.
Sound system not balanced. Singer drowned out. Volume too high overall. Low ceilings require special consideration.
Great food and musicians were very entertaining. I would recommend this restaurant!
Excellent food and great service. Server was engaging and very accommodating. Live music was lovely though the singer was louder than I cared for. Overall a fabulously tasty dinner and an enjoyable experience.
We have been coming to the Blue Martini for a number of years. Their new menu had very limited options and their prices have tripled. Our waiter was terrible. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
Maybe it was a bad night, but the service was very slow and did not really pay attention to us.
After we got seated we had no one come to take our order for over 20 minutes while other patrons that arrived after us were served immediately. While I know live music has a louder sound volume, the night we were there the mics were a lot louder than usual to the point were a conversation was impossible, and this was sitting at the very far back of the room. Also the wine selection was limited, I was told 2 times that the specific wine I wanted was not available and coincidentally the server's suggestions were the pricier version of those wines. Overall a disappointing experience in terms of ambience and service:(
Fantastic meal. Lamb chops were excellent
Was a great evening. Enjoyed the food, martinis and music. Will definitely go back to try more martinis. Great menu!
beautiful ambience w live entertainment . excellent customer service
great food & service and wonderful live music.....!!!
At arrival 715 the manager informed us that they had a problem with the kitchen and there would be no HOT food available. We asked why didn't u call and let us know it just happened he said then he retracted and said it was a few hours ago . Nothing was offered for this inconvenience at the time which we found interesting .Approx 2 hrs. later pieces of pizza were offered .Not too sure this was the best way to handle this situation.
The food was great, our waiter was awesome!
I am disappointed with the quality of the sound system and how noisy the place was that hardly I could enjoy Dutch Robinson singing 😔
.5 anniversary (yes 6 months)
Great service & good value. I wish there was jazz and/or blues instead of folk music.
Evening in the week, motivated by a groupon voucher to use and the act that was playing.
Nice atmosphere, intimate looking venue. Food was ok, nothing amazing. Our waitress was charming but was unable to pour wine in our glasses. The table cloth and the napkins got copious amount of wine spilled onto them. Had to ask to get a clean set of napkins.
Music was very pleasant, and I would returned to listen to acts, but probably not eating there. Food is not that great.pleasant evening and glad I had the chance to try out the venue
Nice place. Doesn't impress from the outside, but inside it's very cozy and comfortable. Great food & service, and good energetic music. Loved it!
Lovely ambience and decor, excellent food, and great music. Some of the waitstaff could use either more training or some attitude adjustment.
This is my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Staff are very professional, and friendly. Atmosphere is great. Live music is a nice touch.
Beautiful birthday dinner with my love with tasty food and great music
Excellent jazz, delicious food, superb service, cool ambience. I only wish this place was closer to home (not that that will keep us from returning).
My partner and myself had our Valentines dinner date at Blue Martini, where we had an amazing night. The food and drinks were incredible, and the service was perfect. To top it off, the live music was unbelievable. Blue Martini really knows how to make a night great!
Brought out of town guests here. They’d been to Vancouver numerous times, dining at the usual downtown spots. I wanted to show them a different look. Getting over to Kitsilano and enjoying some spirited live jazz with dinner made for a great evening.
Great food, service and live music. A little loud for me, but reasonable I suppose for most. The only negative for me would be how tightly packed the tables are in rows. Hard to relax or have a private conversation with other customers so close by.
The dine out menu was a cheap meal prepared well and way over priced. The timing of the three course meal and drinks was poor. We barley finished our appitizer and still enjoying our martinis when dinner arrived and did not have a glass of wine ready with our meal. Then mid way through trying to enjoy our dessert the waiter put the bill down. From beginning to end the wait staff made a pass by our table approximately every 2 min at a very fast pace. I did not enjoy the fast paced eat and leave atmosphere. No need to rush someone trying to enjoy an evening out when the restaurant is only half full.
Terrible experience. I would have had a much better time at the Salmon house or even the Boat House.
When walking in the place was empty except for a few tables. We were a party of 4 and they decided to sit us right beside one of the tables that were occupied. We asked if we could move to another table maybe something near the wall. The answer was no. Not only that but the head host or waiter was treating the other hostess very unprofessional. We could not believe what we were witnessing. So we settled for the table that we had to stay even though all three our reservation the place NEVER filled up....not sure why we couldn’t move. When we got our food one of our steaks was not done to the way she had ordered it. The portions of the steak was a joke....especially because the lady at the table beside us ordered the same thing and got a decent portion! The food was cold as well. I will say that when the bill came they did take off the one steak for us but overall the experience here was not good. Unfortunately will not be returning.
The music was great, and the meal was ok. Veal Parm was slightly mushy like it had been made way in advance and reheated.
Was a cool place. We’d return def for a drink at the bar and maybe a snack!
Great evening with friends. Nice ambience.
Very good food. The service was very friendly and quick. We are enjoyed the performance.
Definitely would recommend to visit this lovely place. Thanks again .
Fantastic evening. Our service was excellent from the minute we walked in. We were there for Vancouver Dine-out and the choices were really good. We were able to see the music group Cannery Row - who were Great!! I will definitely return on another evening and will recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.
Loved the live music and the dineout menu was all very good!
I love the ambience with the low ceiling blue lighting. The live band was entertaining as I enjoy love music a lot. The food was alright nothing to rave about although I did expect better. We would however return for drinks and live music.
