    I made a reservation for my managers here and unfortunately, the experience was less than desired. Their comments below: Tourist trap. Poor quality food and overpriced. The caesar salad had dirt on the lettuce leaves and not even close enough dressing to cover even half of the salad. The Ribeye was overcooked. We asked to swap out the potatoes for any kind of Veg but they said no—they could not accommodate that. We then asked if they could just remove the potatoes and we’ll have just the ribeye. They said no they couldn’t do that either. There are hundreds of great restaurants in Santa Barbara in the Funk Zone. Give this restaurant a hard pass.

    Food was amazing, expensive but well worth it. Service was sub-par. Felt rushed and like asking for coffee was an imposition. No dessert available.

    Went early and it was quiet. They were out of a few items which was unfortunate. Food was good. Presentation very nice. By the time we left it was pretty busy and much louder. We would go back again.

    Just an awful dinning experience. Caesar salad served with a bland vinaigrette. Salad should not be called a Caesar. Shameful. Fish N Chips were swimming in a yogurt that was not good and, like the Caesar, should be renamed to something more inline with the actual dish it was. Filet served in potato mousse that was vile. The best part of the filet dish was the Beans - that says a lot. The french fries were bland and soft as if they hadn't been cooked. We sent them back for extra crispy fries which were no better. Would not recommend this place in a beautiful city with so many other more enjoyable options.

    Great food and ambiance. Stellar service. Shared a very tasty salad, the sunchoke tots were just ok. The fish and chips plate was awesome as was the mushroom pappardelle. Good drinks, small wine menu but nice choices. They were out of a few items and it would have been nice to know upfront just for easier decision making. We loved and will recommend and return

    I read good critics about this restaurant and was looking forward to have dinner there. Server took 15 min to come to see us and order the drinks, then it took another 20 min to get a bottle of water and a glass of wine. The starter we shared, the corvina was really odd, closer to a piece of rubber than a crudo... We didn't finish it and it took another 45 min to get our main course which were the salmon and the halibut, both overcooked and really dry... So we didn't really enjoy the night as much as we were expecting, but I must say that people working there from the buzz boy to the managers were friendly and took responsability. I presume they will work on those issues quickly.

    Interesting menu and very good food. Very good wine. Service could have been more attentive; we were sort of forgotten for long stretches and had to ask other waiters for help. Also a bit of a long wait between courses.

    When we arrived for our reservation I informed the hostess that we were celebrating our anniversary despite us having our 5 year old daughter with us. She was kind and wished us a happy anniversary. When we sat down she poured our water for us while we waited for our server to arrive. We were looking forward to learning more about a few dishes but no one ever came by to assist us. Not even to take our drink order. The hostess notice we hadn’t been helped so she came back by to see if she could help us. We decided we would just place our order w her. Drinks and dinner included. My husband and daughter’s order came our first which was fine as I wanted my daughter to eat right away. No complaints with the food. They both thoroughly enjoyed their gourmet fish and chips. I waited a couple mins thinking the servers who dropped off my family’s food were going to come back with mine. Once I realized that wasn’t going to happen, I got the attention of a server who asked how our food was tasting so far. I let her know I was still waiting on my dinner so she went to check on it. I don’t think it was ever put in the computer so she came back to let me know it would be coming out soon and that it would be on the house. While I was waiting for my dinner my daughter said she was still hungry so we ordered an app from a nice gentleman server who walked by us. (At this point I still didn’t know if we had a dedicated server). He put our order in and it came right away. We also put an order of oysters in w the the woman who told us our pasta would be on the house. I specifically ordered two plain oysters for my daughter and two regular oysters with toppings for my husband. When she puts the order in I hear the kitchen yell “four plain oysters!” That had to be corrected too. Overall food was good but service was terrible. Especially when I let them know we were celebrating our anniversary. So disappointing.

    Friday 4/15. The staff and waiters were WONDERFUL! Mushroom Pappardelle was utterly tasteless. Like - not seasoned at all. The fish and chips weren't fish and chips at all - ended up being blackened cod with some fried veggies. Not bad, just shouldn't be called fish and chips. Caeser was creative but dressing tasted like it came out of a bottle - none of the typical garlic, lemon, cheese bite. Very bland. If they don't upgrade the food here it won't last. There are too many other good restaurants in SB.

    Wow wow wow! Our first time here and we loved it. I am a bit of a food snob and I can say this was the best Ribeye Steak I have ever had. The Yellowtail Crudo was delicious and the Shishito Peppers were served in beautiful style with a delightful sauce. The drinks were great and the service impeccable. Highly recommended!

    Food was good, service was good. The inside seating area has tile floors. Walls are wood and concrete. The ceiling is plaster and 20" tall. SUPER, SUPER loud. To combat noise they play club music louder. 4 of us gave up trying to have a conversation. Eat outside or don't go. The noise ruined the meal. Believe the Foley's will take care of this with acoustic noise buffers - so glad they are taking the place over. Also, the caesar salad presentation is interesting, but the plate they serve it with makes cutting the salad like a slip and slide. All of us lost the romaine head off the individual salad plate onto the table when cutting. Cut it up in the large bowl versus transferring. The Chef should offer salad plates that have texture on the bottom to minimize slippage. 1/2 of our salads were uneatable because of slipping off plates.

    Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted great. The riff on “fish and chips” a grilled cod with smashed potatoes was excellent. The peanut butter chocolate dessert was to die for! The hamachi appetizer was nice and fresh, but the sauce with it was a bit overpowering. Still it was a 5 star experience

    Disappointing experience. Booked a table indoors. Confirmed table indoors. Was seated outdoors at the entrance. Told no tables indoors yet others after us were seated indoors. Street noise loud. Food was so so. Filet was good, but pappardelle was bland. Cesar salad dressing tasted like ranch. Waiter was personable. Overall not a good value.

    My wife and I have yet to be disappointed dining @ Blackbird. We are locals and dined at this restaurant several times. Very attentive service in a beautiful restaurant setting with excellently prepared entrees and appetizers. Cocktails are also unique but very flavorful. Highly recommend this restaurant as dinner option in Santa Barbara

    Lovely evening on the patio with other convivial foodies enjoying the food, ambiance and service. The chef is hugely creative and open to feedback. We will love to see what he invents next time we visit Santa Barbara.

    The restaurant and the hotel are attractive. However, the food is extremely mediocre and the service haphazard. Most of the first and second courses ordered by our table of four had been prepared sometime in the past and badly reheated. Especially the mushroom papardelle was a huge disappointment: dry from reheating and overwhelmed by lemon that paired poorly with the mushrooms (which were leathery themselves). The server was more absent than present and seemed unconcerned that diners were leaving behind the majority of their meals, including a $50 over-cooked small piece of salmon. This is hotel food at its worst.

    Food was very good. Server was a little difficult to catch, had to flag him down at the end of the night. Which I think concerned the Manager, so she came to check on us. Otherwise everything was great.

    Our server, Jason, was great, but we went there for Xmas dinner, and its really just a bar. It had five main course and was out of one; one special. The special was good. My husband didn't like his hamburger. You would this The California Hotel would have a real, upscale restaurant. We should have checked the menu first; I just assumed, given the hotel, the restaurant would be fancy.

    The ambience was lovely. The food lacked a bit. We had the oysters. which my boyfriend enjoyed, The fish and chips was definitely not what we expected. It was a lovely chunk of grilled fish, with different surroundings of potatoes, which were not warm at all. perhaps placed there before the fish was beginning to cook. The fish was very nice.

    There's not enough words to describe how great our Blackbird experience was. I took my boyfriend here for his 22nd birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better night. Our server Anthony was amazing and extremely personable. We got the Lamb shank and Smash burger as entrees and they were both mind blowing. Definitely recommend eating here the next chance you get.
