Black Ginger is a Korean - American restaurant focused on new age Korean cuisine, collaborating with local Detroit produce to showcase rich and traditional flavors.

Executive Chef Jorge Morales has worked in NYC Philly and Ann Arbor. He brings his vast knowledge and experiences to our restaurant and has crafted a menu that offers bold and unique flavors with traditional Korean roots. Black Ginger's menu offers exciting creations for both newcomers and veterans of Korean cuisine.

Owner Harold Kim is a Korean American who grew up in the metro Detroit area. He is knowledgeable in many Asian flavors like Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine. As a Japanese restaurant owner, he has worked with many different types of seafood and has also traveled extensively around South Korea to understand both traditional and modern flavors.

Unfortunately, I had to give the restaurant a one star. Although I had a reservation through OpenTable, when we arrived, the restaurant was closed. I had even confirmed with the OpenTable website a few hours prior that we would be attending. We were really disappointed that because not only we were not able to try this restaurant, but we were also celebrating somebody’s birthday.

Delicious. Full of flavor and amazing. The cocktails were outstanding as well. Definitely recommend this place and will go there again soon.

This was our second visit and we tried all different menu items. The food is really great and it's so exciting to finally have a Korean restaurant in Detroit -- it's a bonus that the food is delicious. For the indecisive, I highly recommend (based on most recent menu offerings in October 2024) the Dwaeji Jjim, pork belly, crab udon, roasted carrots, yuzu basque cheesecake, milk bread and the definite winner of the night was the Korean Fried Chicken -- so crispy, succulent and an incredible sauce. Service here has been great, even when there were moments of working out the kinks (our first visit was not long after they just opened their doors). Would highly recommend.

would be willing to come again! good service. will try more entrees next time. feels a bit plain with the lack of decor. like it isn’t finished or something but i get if they are going for minimalistic vibe. just something felt off

My wife and I tried Black Ginger for our third anniversary. We love trying new restaurants and the menu seemed right up our alley. First off, we each got 2 cocktails, trying new drinks each time. Every drink was fantastic. We ordered 4 dishes to split between us and they were the perfect size for sharing. Each dish came out staggered so we got to fully enjoy each dish before moving on to the next. We had high expectations and I'll say each dish surpassed anything we expected. We sat in the bar area at one of the large round tables and the ambiance was amazing. Quiet enough for us to have intimate conversation but bustling enough to feel like we were part of something trendy. I highly suggest reserving one of the tables by the bar. Service was fantastic and super friendly. We couldn't wait to text family and friends to tell them about our experience. This may be our new go to for a nice evening out.

Go for happy hour! Great specials on both food and drink. Crispy rice and tempura broccolini were especially good. Perfect, fun service. Definitely returning. Free parking too.
