   Eating at the BB Ranch has been one of my favorite things for almost 30 years. It's a must on my list of places to take visitors. While I am absolutely blown away by the new lodge, it is breathtaking, I can't say the same for the menu. They used to have several wonderful seafood options, that's what I always looked forward to. With the reopening, my complaint (and the waitress said I wasn't the only one complaining) was that there weren't many seafood options and what was there usually had Asian flavors. This seems to be a thing with other fine dining restaurants as well and I don't know many people who are happy with that. If I want Asian, I'll go to an Asian restaurant. A group of us were just there and the only seafood option had pork belly. Are you kidding me? I ended up having a salad and the carrot app with the pasta. The Caesar salad was wonderful, and everyone agreed the carrots were beyond delicious. The pasta was good, but that's it. If I had one point to make - rehire the old chef and bring back the type of menu you had with the old lodge. Pacific NW meets Eastern Oregon ranchers. It was perfect and did not need to be "modernized!" Still, the whole ranch is gorgeous with views that literally take your breath away. If the menu stays the same forever, I will still go...........and still complain about it! ;-)

   We celebrated my wife's birthday at the BBR-The Lodge Restaurant and enjoyed an incredible evening of dining. The ambience is amazing: The dining area is very comfortable with expansive windows showcasing one of the most beautiful views to be found anywhere. The service was amazing and our server went out of the way to make sure that we had everything we needed. And, of course, the food was delicious. The wine and bar menu offered a variety of very good choices. Dining here was the perfect choice for celebrating a birthday.

   All was outstanding with the following caveats. - Ambience was great with views super and wonderfully quiet noise level. However, this was mid-week in April and this degree of enjoyment is unlikely experienced during the busy season of July or August. - While tasty, the prime rib did not reach the level of tenderness that one should expect from a prime cut.

   The Lodge Restaurant at Black Butte is elegant, with simple lines and clean walls. Our server was lovely and attentive. The menu choices were spare and slightly different from what was available three years ago when we last dined there. We'll go back.

    Black Butte Ranch is a special place…one of Central Oregon’s hidden gems. The setting is secluded and gorgeous overlooking a small lake and the distant mountains. The restaurant is another gem, with a spacious elegant dining room featuring a large central fireplace, towering cielings and floor to ceiling windows. The menu is limited, offering one each of beef, chicken, fish, pork, pasta and vegetarian entrees. We enjoyed a pork shank, ribeye steak, Caesar salad, red curry soup and peach cobbler. Each dish was excellent, with complex and subtle flavors and beautiful presentation. The meat dishes were very tender, highly flavorful, and lean. The prices ranged from $35 to $47 and the quality made the prices an excellent value. The service was excellent. The ambience was romantic and subtle, with soft music and beautiful open architecture, a great location for a special meal or celebration.
