An exceptionally stylish supper club, civilized speakeasy, a sophisticated saloon. Each of these "personae" is housed in a soaring two-story interior distinguished by a gently curving mahogany bar, fluted columns with ornate capitals, stunning original art, plush banquettes, cozy booths, starched linens, glittering glasses, and polished flatware.
Overall, the ambiance is pure 1930's and 1940's - tasteful art moderne reminiscent of the glory days of Cunard and French Line ships. Fashionable and glamorous are the hallmarks. Trendy is simply not a part of the BIX culture.
The clientele at BIX ranges from San Francisco movers-and-shakers to "savvy travelers" - owner Doug Biederbeck's term for the many diners in the know from out of town who patronize his establishment.
All of them step from the featureless alley into another world - a world of superb cookery and libations, of sparkling service, of stylish nostalgia, of polished live jazz. That world is BIX.

The pianist and saxophonist were a nice accompaniment to dinner. Our only comment is that perhaps the speaker/amp is a bit loud. Softer would be more welcome to enjoying both conversations and their musical talents. Overall we had an amazing experience.

The only thing to improve is gluten free bread or crackers. Bone Marrow or Steak Tartare on lettuce is not the same

Perfection…the service was top notch. The food…my goodness, it was all amazing. The yellowtail crud was amazing, the Caesar salad was the best ever, get the extra anchovies, you will be glad you did. The marrow bones…just perfect, just melted away…same with the strip steak, like cotton candy…the mashed potatoes, perfection again!! The lemon panna cotta, a perfect light dessert to end the meal. The flavors of every part of the meal were just perfect.

Bix is a really elegant experience … the room is beautiful with stunning artwork … the food is tasty with generous portions and the staff is a perfect balance of attentiveness. I’ll be back!

Loved the space, the vibe and the amazing service. Some dishes were repeat-worthy (bread for starter, asparagus side, and the rice pudding were total standouts) and the trout entree was also excellent. Less thrilling the crab tagliatelle and Caeser salad. But for a one-of-a-kind step back in time to an art-deco inspired dining experience with wonderful live jazz, Bix is definitely worth experiencing.
