   The portions are small which I like! If you are really hungry and enjoy larger portions- this might not be the place for you. The cocktails are wonderful and made with care - huge wine list resonably priced. I would go back and visit the bar and have anappetizer.

   Have dined at BIX numerous times over the past 20 years. A definite ‘go to’ spot. One of my favorites in the City. Excellent food, great 3 piece jazz band and a unique 1940’s supper club feel. Unfortunately, this past time our food server was horrible. He was extremely curt and rude. We had a table of 8 and we’re enjoying the ambiance but his attitude nearly ruined the experience.

   Food was not good. The restaurant was too noisy, so much that you could not hear the live music playing. I used to go to this place a lot and always the good was very good. But it seems like the quality has gone down a lot.

   Such a wonderful experience. Order a martini – they're world class. We had the duck breast and the trout, both stellar. The real star of the show here is the service. Every single person was attentive, kind, they really take care of the details – from the coat check to the music. 10/10 recommend.

   I celebrated my birthday at Bix, and it was a sublime experience! The service, food, and cocktails were all outstanding, the live music set the atmosphere perfectly, and my party had a wonderful time. I do recommend getting into the spirit of things by dressing smartly, as it definitely enhances the experience. Overall, it's a wonderful restaurant and I look forward to celebrating at Bix again!

   Great atmosphere and nice place. For the price, we felt the food could have been better. The portions were incredibly small and somewhat bland. I ordered the duck breast thinking that would be plenty of food. The plate looked like it was 2 chicken wings sitting on top of a few greens. I had to keep asking for bread in order to feel full. We also had appetizers which were more small bites than an actual appetizer that could be shared. If I'm paying high end prices, there are much better options nearby.

    LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. Perhaps it's the Friday Night Happy Hour Effect, 3 deep at the bar with volume to match, pity the poor piano player who can barely be heard, let alone dining companions across the table. The physical environment is super, the supper club look and feel, but that's lost in the cacophony of shouting more akin to a sports bar at playoff time - bachelors downing beers at the bar and bachelorette parties adding to the din, whew! Did I mention the vespers seemed short poured, and the crab role starter was barely there, the definition of minimalist. Fortunately the chicory salad was excellent, and the pork chop quite tasty. It was a relief to escape to the silence of Gold Alley, not the feeling you wish for departing such a pricey and sophisticated venue.

    Absolutely loved my experience at Bix! It’s been quite a few years since I’ve dined here, and let me tell you, the food definitely didn’t disappoint. The new executive chef, Anthony Tadeo, is doing an incredible job with the menu. The ambiance is dreamy and classic. And the service was incredible. It was a smidge loud but it fit with the overall vibe. Highly recommend visiting this SF staple!

    Great service at bar and table, the noise was intolerable and the manager could have cared less. We said we were leaving before we were served, and still had to pay for the food. We took it in a bag but never ate it, as it wasn’t meant as to-go and the whole experience was miserable.

    Love Bix! It is a classic SF restaurant. I send my boss here with clients all the time. One of our Partners says this is his favorite, so any time he is on the guest list I will make a push for this spot. It opens at 5:30pm and the music starts at 7pm so if you need a quiet spot make sure you book an early reservation because the music is loud. Not bad loud but too loud for a dinner meeting. Otherwise fantastic!

    The ambience was great with a piano player setting a nice mood. Service was good as you would expect from a fine dining restaurant, although the staff did not seem particularly warm or friendly. The food had good flavor and was cooked well. I had the duck breast and my husband had the steak. One of the dessert items was vanilla ice cream with rum and bananas which seemed like something we could do at home. Overall a great restaurant but just seemed to lack a bit of creativity and personality somehow.

    Went in for a birthday dinner and unfortunately did not have the best experience with our server which was quite a bummer after spending close to $1,000 for the dinner. We explained dietary allergies for one of our guests and the server did not make the accommodations to remove dairy from the order. When we asked another staff member about ingredients (because we could taste dairy in the dish) he confirmed there was dairy in it so he remade the dish without it. We understand mistakes happen and we appreciated them replacing the dish, but then our server came back and told us there was no dairy and that the other staff member was an idiot for telling us lies. We then watched him yell and degrade the other staff member. It was sad to see and we honestly felt bad for the staff who was just trying to do right by us and make our experience better. In the end we confirmed there was dairy in the dish and our server was most likely just trying to cover himself. Before booking the reservation I read negative reviews about issues with Bix’s service and I was really hoping this wouldn’t be the case when I went to book this reservation for a special occasion but unfortunately I was wrong. I wish I could say I’d be back because we otherwise enjoyed the food and ambiance, but unfortunately this left a bad memory on a special occasion.

    Nice speakeasy feel , good food, excellent service. I ordered the hash and didn’t realize it didn’t come with vegetables. I thought the bananas foster should have been flambéed. Nice evening. A bit loud for my taste.

    We celebrated our son’s birthday and it was his first time there. I was on crutches though and the gal didn’t help me up the stairs and I wish you had an elevator! Also, wish you would bring back Valet parking!!!!

    The ambiance was amazing! The rest was garbage. Food was horrible (like even the French fries) and the server kept complaining to us that she was too busy. For a meal that expensive it should at least taste decent and we shouldn’t be affected by the server being busy. We don’t get to do something this nice often and so it was even more of a disappointment. I had read previous mixed reviews but decided to hope for the best since that’s where our birthday girl wanted to go but i should have heeded the warnings. Seriously people - don’t risk it. Huge waste of money

    BIX remains one of our favorite restaurants on the planet. We love the fabulous jazz music charged atmosphere, the space, the wonderful art, the service and delicious American food. Will, the manager always takes personal care of us. If it were for sale we’d love to buy “the Kiss.”

    Food was fine, but not exceptional and overpriced. Service was competent but a little slow on drinks. There were large tables that seemed to take most of the service teams time. Instead of live music there was a very loud PA system that played recorded jazz. A band appeared to be tuning and setting up when we left at 8:45. Perhaps they played later in the evening. It was ok, but I doubt we’ll be back.

    This is one of my favorite restaurants but last night the food didn’t seem up to its usual high standard. My halibut arrived very overcooked, dry and stringy. I complained and the server was great as t and took it back to the kitchen. However the second one was better but not great. Others in the party also felt their meals were not as good as usual for this restaurant.

    The food, cocktails, service, and ambiance were amazing at Bix. We enjoyed everything and this is probably one of our favorite restaurants in SF. The crab Louie salad and Bananas foster were oh favorite, but the duck breast was also right up there. Will be back to try the bone marrow next time!

    Very attractive venue. Music did not start at the advertised time. The food was ordinary and over priced.. as business picked up service became abrupt. The restaurant is too loud to be a serious music venue.
