Bistro Agnes Ratings and Reviews
The Dentons have done it again! Ambiance, service and most of all the food. All really enjoyable. In fact we ran into a couple while waiting for our table said this was their third meal at Bistro Agnes in two weeks. We will be back. I’m already craving the chicken liver mousse.
We will definitely go back. Portland needs a good French bistro. Food was well prepared and tasty. A bistro should serve bread; we asked for some and it came icy cold - obviously not something they intend to serve. We were sharing dishes in order to taste more things; we had to wait for new silverware, plates; I gather they are not attuned to that yet.
Nevertheless, it was a good experience.
The chicken liver mousse is fantastic and their wine selection is excellent with some affordable bottles available. Chicken is something we rarely choose but it was incredible. Very tender and juicy. The service was attentive and there were excellent specials even if they were sold out by the time of our reservation.
Food was delicious, good service, chicken and steak were both cooked perfect, the French onion soup was delicious. Had a little trouble picking out a good wine, didn't have a staple Bordeaux (Margaux, Pauillac, or St Estephe) or Italian (Barolo, Barbera, or Brunello) that was under or close to $100, but that's just nit picking.
Enjoyed the fresh organic food and attention to details. Booked Bistro Agnes because I saw it on Fox 12 More and thought we would try it for our anniversary. This restaurant has only been open for 3 weeks and James our waiter was on top of our every needs from filling our water glasses, to clearing the table between courses, suggesting a great wine selection and even giving us a little history of how Bistro Agnes got started. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that would enjoy a relaxing, remarkable evening dinner out.
We were in Portland for one night and were able to snag two seats at the bar. The bartender was top notch and steered us in the direction of a gorgeous Bordeaux blend and helped us with food recommendations. My girlfriend's steak was perfectly cooked and my cassoulet was delicious, hearty, and wonderfully filling (as any cassoulet should be). One of the best meals I've had in a while, and one of my overall favorite dining experiences ever. We will definitely be back.
A great addition to Portland's restaurant scene, and very authentic bistro style offerings; drinks were great, cheese plate is marvelous, we loved their generous pickles and olives plate, and our entrees of mussels, steak, and sole in browned butter were all delicious. We all however found ourselves wishing for a little bit more tantalizing dessert menu, (the Grand Marnier or chocolate soufflé from our other favorite French bistro - which is not in Portland) or almost any variant on the standard and somewhat anticlimactic crème brulee and sorbets served up after such wonderful and well-done earlier courses. But dessert or no, we are already planning a trip back.
Wonderful atmosphere! Great services, James was very nice and accommodating. The food was so good and just what you would expect in a French Bistro. We are so happy to have a French restaurant of this caliber on the West side of Portland. We will be back and will tell all our foodie friends about our great experience!
Food was wonderful. On arrival a waitress came buy very soon after seating and took cocktail order after a long wait she passed and said it won't be much longer then again a long wait finally dates drink arrives. Waitress was great with appetizers and dinner problem appeared to be with bar. We will be back as the food calls and hopefully the bar situation gets solved.
Service was attentive, casual, and professional. Each dish was executed perfectly and portions perfect. We were told the gougere serving was 3 pieces and since there were 4 of us we easily added a fourth. The menu was well crafted. My friend and I can’t wait to go back for lunch and my husband and I will certainly go back again.
I am very excited about Bistro Agnes and could hardly wait to dine there. We were not disappointed. The restaurant has a lovely glow, and the service was warm and welcoming. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully prepared -- onion soup gratinee, salade lyonnaise, filet mignon au poivre, and beef short rib bourguignon. I can't think of another restaurant in Portland that serves pommes aligot. We can't wait to return to sample more of the menu.
Very nice restaurant with very good food. I want to be fair about the service rating I gave. The wait staff was very good but we had issue with how long it took to get drinks (about 20 min. after order was placed) and food arrival (about 40 min. after order). This is a reflection, in my opinion, on the bar crew and the kitchen staff, not the waitress. To be fair, she did ask if we had theater tickets or if we were in a hurry, which we said no to. If the delay in receiving our food was based on this answer, next time I will answer yes just to get quicker service.
Although I'm a frequent Portland visitor, this was my first time at Bistro Agnes. I'm only sad that I hadn't tried this restaurant before. The beef tartare was very good and the cassoulet was one of the best I've had over the years, but perhaps the best aspect of Bistro Agnes was the service experience. I have seen many wait staffs be professional and attentive, and deliver a very nice experience. But Justin took it a step higher - he made us feel like guests or even friends at his house. He was able to pick up small clues in our conversation and incorporate them in how he delivered our service experience. My wine and I will definitely be back on our return trip to Portland and hopefully, Justing will be working that evening.
The food was outstanding. The bartender/server knew things were backed up in kitchen as it was Day8 since opening, so he gave us some baggiette bread to snack
Server was checking with us several times.
Interesting. People next to us seemed high maintenance in that they said salad rec’d wasnt what they wanted. Commented that side of spinach was too salty. Bartended handled each situation gracefully.
I approve so documenting in my feedback
We enjoyed the lively atmosphere and great food. The endive salad was very fresh and tasty, the watercress side dish superb. The French standards were beautifully executed and delicious. We will definitely make it a regular stop....that is if you can get a table! It is very popular for a reason.
I've been waiting for a good traditional french bistro in Portland. If we had not known it was the only the third night they were open in their new venue I would have never guessed by the service or the quality of the food. Also, it was served at a nice pace, never felt like it was rushed as is the feeling in serveral of our local places. I look forward to dining at Bistro Agnes again soon, the service was spot on, excellent about everything.
Perfectly executed French classics in a cozy setting that combines traditional brasserie touches with modern flair. Surprisingly large portions--my husband and could have split the cassoulet. The chicken liver mousse was fantastic--light and fluffy, and the plum compote was a nicely contrasting accompaniment. I enthusiastically recommend Bistro Agnes!
Food was amazing and service was great. Our group enjoyed a few appetizers and for entrees we had the filet mignon, chicken, sole and beef short rib - ranked in that order, but all were delicious. The music choice seemed a little odd for a bistro atmosphere but it didn’t hamper the experience at all. Very enjoyable dinner!
The only thing that stopped me from loving this restaurant was the amount of salt that was in all our food. I would normally give over seasoned food a 2 or 3-star rating. However, they do deserve a 4-star rating because everything else was great. Every bite was delicious but too salty. We thought the first dish was too salty but then gave the second a chance without notifying the server. The second and third were too salty as well. Before we knew it, the meal was over and we couldn't ingest more salt. I would recommend this restaurant again but just make sure to notify the server that you prefer a little bit less salt. This will allow you to enjoy a more balanced meal. -1 star for being salty.
