We often go to Birraporetti's before the symphony, so we are well acquainted with them. We have had great and not so great experiences, but this time was a great one. The service was prompt and friendly. Our food was also great- very tasty.
Food is always excellent. Sometimes service is slow
We arrived about 10 minutes early for a 6 pm reservation before attending a 7:30 pm play. We were promptly seated and before long our server came and took our drink and appetizer order. That was the last we saw him for over 20 minutes. My wife’s coke was brought over, but my drink from the bar and the appetizer didn’t arrive. We finally saw the server again and reminded him of our missing items and also ordered a pizza. Shortly thereafter my drink arrived, but my wife still didn’t get a refill on her soda. The server did bring up a couple of salads while we waited and brought me a second drink. Finally about 7 pm our pizza arrived. It was not what we ordered, but at that point we ate it since we only had about 15 minutes until we had to leave to get tot the play. It was very good, but we were rushed in eating it. When the bill arrived it still had the appetizer on it, but our server removed it. The salads and my second drink were comped. Our server expressed to us that they were short staffed and we certainly didn’t take it out on him, but the restaurant took reservations for way over their capacity to serve the customers. The people at the next table never received their appetizers or their drinks at all, other than water. I applaud them for comping a couple of items, but given the situation, I felt that they should have limited the seatings or maybe simplified the menu to make it easier on the kitchen staff. As it was, it was a frustrating visit. I have eaten at this restaurant many times before and never had anything but positive reviews. Hopefully this night was just a one off.
We had a great time catching up with a friend from Oregon who was in town. I think this was the perfect choice! The holiday decorations were beautiful, the food delicious and service excellent. We usually go before a show but it was so nice to get to take our time and not be rushed this time. It was rainy and this is a great place to go and stay dry if you park in the garage. Our only small complaint was that the music was a bit too loud and the speaker was just over out booth. Overall another great experience. Birrapioretti’s never disappoints!
Food was just ok. Watery sauce and gritty cheesecake. Atmosphere, service and drinks were great.
Service was extremely slow. This was highly unusual- we didn’t even have a server come to our table until 15 minutes after we were seated. Dirty dishes were not cleared and everything was slow. We frequent the restaurant before shows regularly and we arrived an hour and a half before show time and we were still running late. I’m not sure what the problem was but I hope they resolve it before we return for the nutcracker.
Musty smell in restaurant. But food and service were good.
Food was good but the menu is getting old and tired, desperately needs a refresh. Service was good not great. Seemed as if there just weren’t enough wait staff.
Perfect dinner before a show! Service is wonderful and food is delightful!
Beautifully decorated, outstanding menu, large number of diverse selections, great service; reasonable prices, food is so delicious. What’s not to like. ?
The perfect venue for a quiet dinner before the symphony. Great food and great service!
Early dinner (5:30) for 4 of us ahead of shows at the Revention and at Hobby Center. Handed a large food menu, a special fixed priced theatre menu, cocktain menu and wine menu upon being seated. Way too much juggling. 2 of us have dined here before; 2 were first timers.
Not sure if it was our server or the kitchen being used to getting tables turned quickly but our salads arrived half-way through our appetizer and our main courses arrived 5 minutes into our salad course. Someone did not have their act together and this is why I am given the service a "fair" ranking as opposed to other meals we have eaten here.
Food is served hot, is plentiful and is very tasty. Full service bar does a good job too. We will be back but we will never place our full order at the top of the evening ever again. If kitchen/front of house can't manage timing, we'll do it for them.
The atmosphere was great, the food and drinks great and the service was excellent. Will definitely be back.
Dinner before a show at Hobby Center. Food was hot and fresh. Service was a little slow, but not terrible.
I felt very bad for the bartender. He was supporting the bar as well as making drinks for the entire restaurant. I'm sure it was caused by the labor shortage and was not intentional by the restaurant. Overall the experience was very average. It was 15 to 20 years since I last ate at the restaurant... It will probably be another 15 to 20 before I give it another shot.
The food is not bad... It was just a very average experience... And very slow
The host was rude at best. The waitress didn’t come to our table for 10 minutes. Wine took 10 minutes to bring to table. She seemed like she was depressed. The food was good and the only thing saving the night was the keyboard musician. Just the right volume, beat, feel. It’s a good thing the pickings are slim for restaurants down there, or they would be hurting these days.
We had 6pm reservations for 2. After arriving on time we did NOT get waited on until 6:25. After ordering our drinks they didn’t come until 6:35. At 6:45 our entrees came before salads! After we were half way thru with our meal the salads came. Ugh. The waitress Betsy never filled up our water or tea. At that point we had enough and called for the manager, Jay. His excuse was she was new. Never going back. Worse service we ever had and I eat out at a lot of restaurants!
We have been taking our kids their since they were very small after a play at the Hobby center. They are now 27 & 25. Food was good, service was less than stellar. Waiter was not friendly and not very accommodating. Otherwise it was fine.
Beautiful dining room and delicious Italian food.
The restaurant is very dirty. And we saw the staff simply reverse the table cloth and place it back on the same table after guests leave. No one sanitized the chairs or table. While the service was good and food was nice, we will not go back there again.
Great food, great location (theater district), great atmosphere and great service. My slightly dirty vodka martini was perfectly made which was a great start to dinner!
Glad to be back at Birraporetti's! Food was good, service was good; lots of new faces.
Busy night but staff seemed to be handling pretty well. Service was good - our waiter had too many tables but I have no complaints. Food was good but seems to have gotten a little pricey.
I am not sure the calamari was completely cooked.the food was a little better than warm, but not hot. Wine I ordered was not the wine I received and we did not receive all the food we ordered but fortunately we're not billed for it. Really a very stark contrast to the dining experience I have had here before.
Love this restaurant. Best place to dine before or after a show downtown but we get in whenever we can. Not the fanciest, not the flashiest but always a great meal and service. A very cool spot.
Service was impeccable. Food and ambiance very good
Birraporetti’s was completely full, but we received excellent & friendly service. We were able to enjoy dinner without being rushed & still made our 8pm performance. Their food is always delicious & ‘post pandemic’ did not disappoint.
Very understaffed so seating and server a little slow but everyone was working hard. Server was lovely, the food was very good and timely so we made it to the theatre on time.
The restaurant was great - it was one of our favorites when we lived in Houston decades ago and it still keeps its high standards. Tasty food and friendly service. Highly recommended! Good for pre-theater dining and after-shiw cocktails.
Excellent good, great service, nice ambiance! A perfect pre-concert dining experience!
Very accommodating, excellent location, efficient service, and quite comfortable. Ideal supper before a concert.
Excellent food and service…Thanks for having us yesterday
Lots of buffet options. My dining companion is vegetarian and she had lots of good choices.
Loved the musician! Even though we sat near the performer, we were not drowned out. And he was quite versatile.
Been going here before performances since I was a kid. Always enjoy the live music and staff is always super nice. May not be the trendy place to go these days but we love it. Passing the tradition on to my teenagers. Such a great location in the Theater District-only have to park once and so convenient! It has an aging character and homey feel. Like the food too!
We went before attending a show at the Alley. We had a reservation and were seated immediately upon checking in. The server was excellent. The food was very good and the portions were huge. Overall is was a great evening.
Birraporetti's is our go-to place pre-ballet and pre-symphony.
So glad Birraporetti's downtown has made it through the past two years. The food, service and atmosphere is still as enjoyable as ever, and we will continue to make them a part of our theater experiences!
Jordy was a fantastic waiter.
