Had a very nice lunch before a matinee at the Alley. The entrees were very good, but the salads had very little flavor. I was also a little surprised that an Italian restaurant charged for bread with our meal. Overall, a good experience.
We eat here every time we attend a play. This visit found the restaurant very crowded due to several events going on nearby that evening. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table despite having reservations. There is really no lobby so everyone waiting was crowding around the bar and entrance and we felt in the way of those dining as well as the servers. Once we were seated the service was prompt, but my one complaint is that our meal arrived at our table just after our appetizer. This left our main entree getting cold while we finished our appetizer. :( Otherwise the food was good and we enjoyed the evening.
Saturday night in downtown Houston was one of the most crowded nights I have witnessed . Every place was full . The restaraunt was packed . We had a reservation . The manager got us a table in under 10 minutes , actually ahead of our reservation time . The server was prompt and the food came out quickly
and well prepared . They were all courteous and attentive . We went on to our reservation at The Alley and enjoyed the play . We came back to Birraporetti's after the show for drinks . We were remembered and welcomed and had a great time hearing the live music .
We've enjoyed going here on our theater nights for years. It can sometimes be crowded, but the staff is adept at handling the rush. They also know how to get patrons in and out in time for the curtain.
Drinks are first rate, and the food has never disappointed us.
Wife’s steak was tough. My grouper was average. Service was nice. We arrived early but the hostess found a good table for us right away. We’ll be back.
Overall excellent with a couple of minor missed steps.... irrelevant to a positive review!!
I had the best salmon I’ve ever had! Crispy top but super thick & moist inside. Service was friendly and attentive! Loved the entire experience!
Thank your Barbara for your 5 star review We are tickled you enjoyed experience!
It seemed that they were not prepared for our reserved seats, we were stuck in a corner near the front window, but it was okay, because it was quiet there. Pork chop was dry, too hard to cut, white fish was good, overall the food was good.
Background recorded music was too loud and not soothing dinner music
We ordered water, a glass of wine, garlic bread, salad, and 1 entrée. The salads arrived first and were soon followed by the entrée. Water arrived after both the salads and entrée. The garlic bread and wine were no shows. Very disappointed that no one appeared to be walking the dining room making sure the diners were having a good experience. No signs of anyone in charge. Birraporetti's should be knocking it out of the park, but they appear to be asleep at the wheel.
We came at 6:30 for an 8PM play. It took 40 minutes to get our salads. The main course came before we could finish our salads, probably because of the play schedule. Our meal became a little rushed but it all worked out.
My wife and I went for dinner prior to a show at the Hobby Theater. I dropped off my wife at the front door while I parked the car. When I came in, I didn't see her right away so mentioned to the hostess that my wife had just come in a few minutes prior and mentioned my last name (we did have an OpenTable reservation, and were right on time). The hostess simply looked at me like she had much more important things to do than answer my question - fortunately, this was the only low point of the evening.
While I was originally planning on ordering an Italian dinner, their Curtain Call menu (3 courses for $ 38.00) included a ribeye, so I went that route instead. The steak was huge, cooked medium rare as requested, but was not anywhere near top-notch at that price point. My wife had the jumbo cheese ravioli with meatballs and sausage, which was good, though not necessarily great.
The service was friendly, the ambiance was pleasant, and the bill was reasonable, so it met all my requirements for the night.
Our waiter Felix was awesome! But the food was ok. I guess you shouldn’t get steak at an italian restaurant. It was tough, no flavor and so bloody that when he cut the steak blood spewed all over his pasta. We were running late for a show and didn’t turn in a complaint. Alot of money wasted. Next time only pasta will be ordered.
As always the food and ambiance were great. My Veal Picatta was wonderful. However, our waitress must have been new so not very efficient. There was a problem with our credit cards getting processed. We had to sign on a separate form which I have never seen before. That took much longer than usual. Thankfully it was dinner after the Alley Matinee and not before the evening performance so we were not in a hurry. We have never experienced these delays before.
Food is always above and beyond expectation, staff are always pleasant, atmosphere is worth the dining before or after a play.
The service was great, The Raspberry Lemon Martinis were delicious! The food was fresh and delicious! We had the bacon wrapped shrimp which were huge, also the Marco Polo was amazing!
Great food as always. Great service and they will really strive to get you out quick if you need to.
Multiple times here but will not be back. Service was terrible. All orders were messed up but the final straw was my basic order. Spaghetti with Italian sausage, but was burnt and dry so did not eat and just left.
There are a lot of options before a show and I will not go back after 20 years. Go somewhere else. Also note wanted to complain to the manager but she disappeared not to my surprise. I will not be back!!!
Nice ambiance and great staff, ready for diners wanting a quick meal or patient for leisurely diners. Parking on site if needed.
Before show dining. Always great. Chicken picatta is the best!
The restaurant was busy as usual before an Alley Theatre performance, but they were able to accommodate us quickly and the service was prompt and friendly.
We enjoyed being able to talk and hear each other at our table. Our server was attentive and personable. Our only disappointment was the calamari was just ok. Everything else was fabulous.
Food and service were great as always. Our favorite place before the theater.
Thank you Michael for your 5 star review, we hope to stay your favorite theater dining venue.
The long quest for traditional Sicilian is over! We moved from San Antonio to Houston 2 1/2 years ago and missed our spot in San Antonio. Now we have found it and will be there often. Our server Anthony seemed new but very attentive and did a great job. Apparently his shift needed and he was replaced with another guy-don’t remember, but he was very apathetic.
Thank you for the 5 star review. I have worked for this restaurant for over 30 years and we have the same recipes that we did in the beginning. If it's not broken don't fix it. Our original location was in River Oaks where we were famous for pizza and a huge round bar that was packed every night . This was before delivery and we would have a line out the door coming to pick up pizzas! Next time you come in, give the pizza a try, your won't be disappointed.
Overbooked for a Saturday night. Waiter doing his best to cover his tables. Food was great.
Always excellent service and a wonderful place to go before the theater. They always make sure you are in time for your show. Love going there.
Always a fantastic time at this Birraporetti's location. Servers are very attentive to theater show commitments. Love the lasagna!
Thank you Sharon for your 5 star review. Food for thought.......... The Lulu's Lasagna is recognizing the owner and founder's (Micheal Horan) mother whose name was LuLu Horan. I had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a great lady!
Service was quick for theatre goers. Food was hot and delicious. Had pasta with sundried tomatos, spinach and chicken with goat cheese sauce. I recommend adding some garlic bread to make sure you get ALL the sauce.
Thank you Melissa for your 4 star review. That dish you love is a signature dish we call Pasta Poretti! We recommend bread for every table, an Italian meal just isn't complete without it!
Took my daughter to celebrate her graduating high school, we had a great time and enjoyed a delicious dinner.
Birraporetti’s is a part of the theatre or concert experience.
Excellent food and service.
We went to Birraporetti's before the ballet. It was crowded, and our table was right beside where people checked in. They even set up another table below us, making it even more noisy and oppressive. It took a long time before a server appeared, and he was generally inattentive, never remembering even to bring the water I kept asking for. (A busby finally happily complied.) The food is reasonably priced, but mediocre; the salad wasn't particularly fresh. Arrival of food was slow, which I think they'd be more attentive to since I'm sure they seek to serve people going to performances nearby. I will say that the Raspberry Lemondrop drink was excellent and seemed to be a popular choice. We're in no hurry to go back and are more likely to try to find some place with better food and more comfortable atmosphere on the way downtown.
I have been going to birraporetti’s for the last 20+ years. Live in Austin and still return here when in town. LOVE their fettuccini Alfredo! Great prices! Everything there is good. Only suggestion is to try to get them to lower adjacent garage price ($10).
Stay open forever please!
As always we pop in before our play at The Alley. They consistently offer great service and really good food. I highly recommend it!
It was a perfect meal before the theater. Online reservation worked great.
Excellent service from all employees. Our waiter, Felix, was great! Like the option of putting any leftovers in the kitchen and picking up after the theater.
I eat at Birraporetti"s before plays at the Alley Theater . Food is good and service usually very good. Last night however we had a waiter that must be relatively new. It wasn't a huge negative but the server brought my entree and salad at the same time. He needs to know that salad needs to come first so meal won't get cold.
Birraporetti’s is alway a treat! I was dining alone, and my server made me feel so welcome. I had the spinach fettuccine with mushrooms. It was the best fettuccine I have ever had… ever! The noodles were fresh and tender, and the sauce was smooth and flavorful. A great place to dine in the theater district either before or after any event.
Good location for lunch before the theater, symphony or opera, with convenient parking and OK ambiance. Unfortunately very old fashioned Italian food - could really benefit from a lighter and more true Italian upgrade.
All was great! Felix took good care of us.
