   Birdhouse is the epitome of community. It’s like going to your neighborhood trattoria down the street. The food is so comforting, drink list great and the people are just the best.

   Excellent food, excellent wine/spirits selection. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We will definitely be back soon.

   The space is very nice, with a comfy feel. Very simple decor, but it works. The roast chicken -which is the star of the show - was fabulous, tender, juicy and flavorful. The sides I had were fantastic - the Mac and cheese (in a style suited for grownups) was great and the white beans were perfect- cooked and seasoned just right. I had a white wine - can’t remember the name- that was well suited to the chicken, and reasonably priced. It came with a fabulous salad, with a yogurt-like sauce on the side, in addition to well-done vinaigrette. Sounds odd, but it worked, and was quite memorable. Also, the bread (no charge) was quite good. Dessert was an olive oil cake (comped!) with whipped cream, as light and subtly sweet as you could hope for. A simple, but extremely well executed meal, made with excellent fresh and mostly local ingredients. Everybody on the staff was attentive and pleasant and clearly proud of what they are serving. They should be. The Birdhouse is just blocks downtown In Charlottesville, but in an unlikely area for a restaurant, that is mostly industrial. It look very modest from the outside, but inside is warm and rustic, with some mighty good food. Parking was fought out from and well-lit. One of the best meals that I have had in Charlottesville in quite a while, and at half the price (or less) of some of my downtown favorites. I’ll be a regular.

   I lived in Charlottesville for 2 years and never came across this place. It’s in a less frequented area, but easy to get to. Our server was so kind and when one of our sides was taking a while to come out, she offered us another side to try. Overall, really cute vibe inside and great food! Definitely check it out.

   What a great find in downtown Charlottesville —-as one would expect of a restaurant that only does one thing the chicken was outstanding but my hot tip of the day is try a couple of their craft cocktails they were very fun and delicious and off the beaten track and the posole was good enough to pass the test of this former New Mexican
