This restaurant is in the lobby of a lovely hotel on UVA’s campus. The decor is inviting and the images are representative. Drinks were overwhelming. We ordered two specialty cocktails- one a “Parmesan infused martini” which was borderline undrinkable and a Smokey mescal which tasted a bit like a fireplace (and I typically drink mescal neat). Disappointed but we were still curious. We placed our order with a pleasant server who then completely forgot about us. Almost 45 minutes pass, granted it is a Friday night and the place is busy but a full ghosting. Next he arrives with two glasses of champagne- yep. There is zero chance the kitchen has our order. By the time we finish our glasses, my partner’s med rare steak frites and fries arrive. Rapidly following my steak tartar and carrot salad. We both dove in hopeful. Flavorless. He ate his frites in a few bites and nibbled on fries while I tried to saw the carrot ribbons with a butter knife. Tartar was only tasty when completely incorporated with the garlic, salted bread. No balance in the components of the dishes. There was a lake of sauce beneath my salad- almost stunning how the carrots were so difficult to cut. No dessert for us. We couldn’t leave fast enough. It was almost $ 150 and absolutely not a top tier dining experience; hopeful Cville has more to offer but this Kimpton might want to double check their F&B standards.

A very solid dining experience with excellent service by Dante. The appetizers especially the heirloom tomatoes and carrot salad were amazing. Yes, do order their specialty, the chicken friend monkfish! We had a hiccup during our dining, and I’ve never been so impressed with management’s kindness and attention to perfect resolution. Great customer service! Made us feel special!

Obviously, accidentally the server spilled an entire glass of red wine on my wife hitting her directly and completely. The server did apologize but never did a manger or anyone else come over and apologize or offer any concession even if it were only a free round of cocktails. My wife had to leave to go to the room to soak her clothes and change before Retuning.

Our server was amazing. The hostess, made my father’s birthday so very special. We had a chance to meet the sous-chef who came to the table. We will definitely be back!

What a delightful meal! Everyone was so hospitable and kind. The food was so delicious. We wanted to eat everything on the menu! Very reasonably priced for such an elevated meal. Thank you for making my dad’s birthday one to remember!
