Big Sky Café Inc.
Awesome brussel sprouts with mole sauce. All their items are very creative and tasty.
Had an early reservation...5pm due to needing to get on the road. Dining room only about 25% full, still took about 10 minutes to take our order and NO JOKE about 50 minutes for the food to arrive.
Server was nice, but didn't check in much on us and when we inquired about timing she was just like, "it's coming"....leading me to believe this is the norm at this place.
Took another 20 plus minutes to get our check. Overall, food was good, not great and just too way too long. We won't be back.
They were slammed with no show at kitchen. We didn’t place our order for 45 min after being seated. Mac n cheese was cold, noodle soup dish had no flavor and my kids had to ask for soy sauce for the broth. We were served so late we didn’t want to keep sending dishes back. The white flag was already up for us. My halibut was delicious but at $28 the portion was minuscule. Staff and GM tried hard but the overall execution was not worth the price especially for my daughters birthday.
It was Valentines Day so this review is just for this specific day. We still will come to Big Sky we think it’s good restaurant.
The Mac and cheese was runny and was not good at all we took one bite and we were done. Not good.
The palenta fries were good.
The halibut was fair, broccoli was good. Potatoes were terrible and not edible.
Service was very nice but slow and delayed understandably so because I’m of the holiday.
Please list this as a private note to the restaurant not a public review. It’s refusing to let me select private.
Great service and food. Quick and attentive staff.
Been going to Big Sky for many years. It, and workers there, have alway been very good.
Great food, setting, and service! We especially enjoyed the brussels sprout appetizer and the prices on the drinks during happy hour.
A fun and lively environmental with a terrific and varied menu for all diners. I really appreciate the many healthy — even vegan — options. The food is always delicious. We’ve been eating there for over 20 years and only wish it had more comfortable seating, not upright, wooden bench style seating. Otherwise we love it.
Both the Jerked chicken with sweet potatoes, and Mahi Mahi special were excellent.
First time here. Crab cakes, paella, spring roll, polenta fries were all terrific. Ambience is “live” but in a good way. You could still hold a conversation without straining your voice or ears. Will for sure come b.
I loved my pasole but my guest found the turkey chili to be soupy and lacking substance. Wine was wonderful
The food was amazing! The waiter was great. I loved the crispy cauliflowers
We like Big Sky and go there several times a year. We got a great table and our food was good, although not as good as on some previous visits. Unfortunately our waitress was almost abrupt, especially as we arrived and ordered drinks. She seemed to soften as the meal continued but we wondered if she was having an off night or did not like waiting tables. Our past experiences have always had excellent service.
Great food selection. Very delicious entre salads.
The place is great. People fantastic half price wine night awesome. Vegan spring roles and sauces delish. But homemade soyrizo was boring. Vegan paella was plentiful but also bland. We expected the foods to really pop w flavor. They didn’t. But we’ld go back again.
Nice ambiance, great service. The vegan paella needs a little work though.
Vegetable plate was delicious.
Would definitely come again.
My wife and I love Big Sky's perfectly prepared fresh filet of salmon, and tonight did not disappoint. The set up is awesome: honeyed harissa glaze, over mango chutney, and served with roasted ginger carrots. If you love salmon, this dish is a Must Try!
We especially enjoyed the friendly, attentive service and the live music! The musician was awesome- wonderful song selections and the perfect volume. The wine was delicious although on the higher priced side. The paella was excellent.
We were not starving, but are looking forward to coming back hungrier: My (vegan) wife and I met in SLO Thursday night before the farm market. There were so many options for both of us. She had the veggie spring roll and the crispy cauliflower. I had the lamb burger. The Cauliflower was outstanding with a touch of spice and a nice crisp crunch, I could definitely eat this as a side dish instead of fries. The lamb burger was delicious, my only reservation was that the bun did not hold up to all of the toppings and fell apart. We both looked at paellas brought to the next table and they looked great. We will be back for them soon!
Bug Sjy remains our favorite place to take family and friends for a special night out...the specials...roasted lamb shank and marinated pork chop...were phenomenally flavorful. Service was excellent and my granddaughter loved the blondie brownie with whipped cream and caramel sauce! We had lovely evening....thank you!
Open to the street. Great neighborhood vibe! Family like service. Would definitely go back when in town,
The food is always really tasty and our waitress was super sweet and polite. I like that there are different specials every time I go and they always have a delicious soup
When down in SLO, about 3-4 times a year, Big Sky is our must eat at restaurant. The staff are attentive and super friendly. The food is consistently delicious. We do recommend to all our friends when ask.
The restaurant was nearly empty. There was one server for 8 tables., or more. Management should have been aware., and helped out., or gotten the host or bussers to help. There were customers very patiently raising their hand to get attention, and it felt like a relief when someone finally would notice.
There were plenty of bussers serving warm tepid water.
Our server was pleasant enough, and convivial, introducing himself and having us introducing ourselves: well and good if you are not swamped with “too many tables”. Probably best to get straight to the point. “What would you like for dinner & drink?” They must of had an earlier rush, and were in recovery mode, not sure.
Food was good., but it just seemed not at well orchestrated for full dinner service.
We did get our food and drink, there were a few minor mistakes. Probably won’t give them another chance, as there wasn’t anything super compelling about this place.
My wife and I were very saddened by our recent visit. We've made it a point to stop there anytime we were driving to LA, at least once a year for 15-20 years. We've sent many people there. It was one of the most wonderful places in the state. Circumstances prevented us from making the trip for the last three years. Apparently the place has changed hands during this period. There were only two parties in the place when we walked in at the height of dinner hour, the first time we've ever been there when the bar wasn't completely filled with people waiting for tables. That should have been the first sign. We ordered spring rolls to have before dinner. That should have been the second sign to bail out. Inedible. Like cardboard. But we persisted. Next was the pozole, which was always as good as anything in Santa Fe. I nearly spit it out. I asked my wife if she agreed with my take on it - canned veggie soup with some hominy tossed in. She totally agreed . Next were the tacos. Ice cold. Sent'em back to be heated. Still tasteless. How can you mess up tacos? That was it. Left a nice tip for the wait staff who were great and got the hell out. I can't over-state how disappointed we are to have seen one of our beloved traveling traditions go down the drain like this.
Love the ease of making reservations. The menu has amazing variety and the local wine selection is a plus. Great and friendly service. We’ll be back ( whenever our college daughter will see us 😊)
The fish dinners were not up to the quality we have come to expect at Big Sky. The fish was over-cooked.
Nice local spot with varied menu including good vegan and vegetarian options. I enjoyed fresh halibut and a salad of local greens. Good local wine list and mellow but attentive service. A very good place for people with different food requirements to share a meal. Prices seemed reasonable for the area.
Outstanding! Every dish ordered was delicious. Our new favorite restaurant in SLO. Our server Ellie was amazing.
It’s okay. Food was not the freshest. But the service was actually great.
We always enjoying eating at the Big Sky when we come to San Luis Obispo. The food and wine are good. the wait staff is very good, too, though often so busy it takes awhile to get your food but they are polite and kind.
Excellent dining experience
Specialized dietary accommodations for vegan no oil requests
Ellie our server was outstanding, made out dining experience really special
I have stopped there many times when passing through San Luis. Usually very good! This time we arrived for a early dinner it was not busy yet. The Food Was Served Very Very Slightly Warm Almost Cool, all of it This Was NOT GOOD!!! Even Down to the Desert the fruit crisp was barely warm, again almost Cool. This had never happened before. We should have spoke up as it was Not Enjoyable at All!!! If this ever happens again we will Send The Food Back!!!!!!
We love coming here on our way back from the Bay Area. The food options are amazing and the service is always friendly.
Great for vegan and non-vegan diners. Great atmosphere. Large local wine and brews list. Very good value.
Amazing food and wonderfully warm attentive waitress.
Sorry I cannot write a better review but the food wasn’t up to our expectations. The Korean glazed ribs were tasteless and the halibut, over cooked. Service was nice and attentive. Wonder whether the “day’s specials” weren’t a good choice.
Their live musician was good, however not set up well for the acoustics of the building. The food was decent and so was the service.
The waitstaff was very attentive. The food was pact with flavor
Trying to hard-not enough servers, had trouble getting orders right-rare came out well.
