The white wine mussels and pear salad were amazing!
Great food, slow service however the entire industry is suffering.
Went to Bidwell on Thanksgiving day. The food tasted good, but temperature was variable (soup was really hot and dinner was cold) and they really skimped on the gravy. I would understand if they were full, but there were only 3 or 4 tables with 2-4 people at them. They had on relatively loud rock music which was a bit incongruent with the holiday.
I did appreciate the traditional Thanksgiving menu and the way the food tasted. I also greatly appreciated the fact that people were working on Thanksgiving!
Always a great time at Bidwell. Food is great and service always friendly.
Service was great. Drinks were good. Food was just eh.
Server was incredible- always a stop for us when we visit DC and the NOMA area!
Great food and service in a casual atmosphere. Had a great time at Bidwell!
A very underwhelming experience
Great service. We were sure to reserve a table outside at booking, which was the best thing. We had a reserved table outside on a perfect day. Our server Keisha (sp?) was amazing and her recommendations were spot on, and she was very quick with the refills for our bottomless bruch!
It was ok for pub type food- not great - really we thought the food was just average - service was ok though tables were kind of sticky . I did not think by any means it was representative of a bib gourmand listing. Overall pleasant for the purpose of a place to sit while shopping at Union market but not a place to return to.
It's a pretty small brunch menu, and not particularly interesting. But my peach stuffed corn flake french toast was ample. Recommendation: Avoid the pork sausage. It's basically unseasoned meatballs and it smells terrible.
Restaurant lives up to its billing for delicious, fresh and some unusual dishes. Service was efficient and friendly. We ate outside, which has little ambience b/c it is in the middle of union market with some dogs barking, etc. But we didn't feel particularly bothered by the activity and were able to talk easily.
Liz was phenomenal with our group. Very accommodating and gave exceptional service.
Always a great time at Bidwell, sit at the high tops. The bartender is very attentive and offers great food options. My fav is the clam pizza. Listen, go in with postive vibes and eat well. They grow their own herbs..... have a amazing time, thank me later.
I chose Bidwell after finding it on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list. I cannot for the life of me work out how it ended up on that list.
I spent over 20 years in the restaurant business, and as such I always give a place the benefit of the doubt where possible. However, Bidwell simply failed across the board. The table was sticky (the hostess did explain that it had something to do with their COVID cleaning chemicals, although why this is the only restaurant I've ever been to that had this problem makes this claim a little suspect). The service was entirely underwhelming in every way - waiter uninterested, lacking knowledge, hard to attract the attention of, lacking attention to any details. The food was decidedly average, by which I mean that there was literally nothing creative about it, and the flavors were largely bland. The prices were therefore not justified by the food.
It was largely empty on a Saturday night at 7:30pm while the rest of Union Market was buzzing. This should have been a sign.
I don't know when the Michelin reviewers were there, but I strongly suggest that they pay a repeat visit to this place, which cannot possibly merit such an honor.
Great as always!
Our server was amazing and so was the food. Thank you!
I enjoyed the food!
Great food and always excellent service. One of our favorites!
Fantastic brunch and really great service! Will definitely come again and recommend to others.
The restaurant was CLOSED when we arrived for our reservation. Left a phone message and received no reply
Food was amazing! Service awesome! Highly recommend!
Vibrant open upscale modern vibe
Severely understaffed. Food wasn't the best. The mac and cheese specifically wasn't anything to write home about. Visiting D.C. for the weekend and we had much better food at other restaurants.
My friends and I were celebrating a birthday and went for brunch. The hostess was accommodating with our request for a table at the bar. The bartender was also very accommodating and kept the bottomless drinks flowing. The strawberry salad was disappointing with one strawberry cut in fours and a few broken walnut pieces. Because they grow their vegetables, they could add more strawberries since it was a “strawberry salad.” I love the Bidwell Burger and requested it without bread. Had to send back to the kitchen to add the caramelized onions.
Suggestion: with the high noise level and the openness of the space the background music is more of an annoyance than a compliment to the experience.
Another suggestion: the bread pudding as the “birthday cake” was disappointing. My friend does not eat bread pudding, but the gesture was nice.
Great for brunch! Plenty of seating before 11 am on a Sunday, but got busy around 11:30. Server was wearing a mask, which we appreciated.
I'm deeply offended by the management's total lack of cultural sensitivity. The restaurant had the audacity to serve a specialty drink named gentrification in an area that was historically black and now is on the swing of forced migration by lower income families to move in people that don't represent the idea of "chocolate city". I will never dine there again.
Went there for brunch and the food was not good. Coffee was cold, eggs were underdone, omelet and potatoes were underseasoned. Was surprised at the poor quality.
Even though the dinner menu doesn't bring a lot of options, the pizza, which is the main course, it is very good! Also not a lot of toppings available, but very tasty.
It was like eating in a concrete school gymnasium and being overcharged for the privilege.
Basically, this place is an okay, affordable option if you are in Union Market and want to sit down at a traditional restaurant. Service was pleasant but very slow—we waited 20 minutes for drinks and one person in our group did not get his entree until most of us were done eating our food. The brunch food was fine, not great. I would not go back.
The service was very attentive and the menu was perfect for different food restrictions. Plus the food was delicious!
Cassie and the crew created a memorable brunch experience.
A great restaurant, great ambiance, the perfect place to take someone on a first date
The restaurant appeared to be understaffed but there was no disclaimer provided by management or the workers that service may take longer than expected or be inconvenient. My server would only arrive every 30 minutes, rush me and my friend to order and still forget the order, adding more time. Simple communication could have mitigated the frustration in receiving poor service.
Really nice atmosphere. We had a great time & will definitely be back.
Service was great, food was delicious. Great outdoor dining in Union Market
Great as always, so glad they are back for dining
My guest and I had a very good experience at Bidwell. The waitstaff, while minimum was very attentive and accommodating. Love the shrimp pasta in broth. It was scrumptious
Went for brunch after a Father-Son event. My son and I split the breakfast burrito and the French toast. Both were great. We had a table outside and were fortunate that the weather was nice -- but if it had been any warmer, would've wanted an umbrella for some shade. Union Market and the surrounding neighborhood continue to get better and better and we find ourselves spending more and more time there. Lots of great options, but definitely recommend Bidwell for a sit down meal.
