The Bidwell menu features Chef John Mooney’s signature dishes with Southern flair and flavor including: Gin & Tonic Salmon with Caramelized Cauliflower, Crispy Deviled Eggs with Homemade Ranch Dressing, Lobster Taco with Avocado Tomatillo Salsa, and Suckling Pig. Completing the menu is a confidently curated selection of regional wines, craft beers and classic cocktails.
The food was mediocre. Our server didn’t care. We waited for our drinks 20 minutes and our appetizers arrived first. Not worth the hassle nor money paid for “just okay” dinner. Asked for second drink for wife and drink didn’t come. Waitres showed up 7-10 min. later without drink and asked what else we wanted. Are you kidding? I said “her drink” and was given a smart aleck remark.
Needless to say, Stay away from this dump.
Delicious drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert! And the music playlist they had going was exceptional.
Service and food very good. Staff very attentive.
I have been here more times than I can count. The food and service is amazing! Always have a customer in myself :)
The good was good, but despite the restaurant not being terribly crowded, the service was poor. We had trouble finding our server and little things, like we ordered a root beer float, which sat in the kitchen (we could see it) before it was delivered to us.
We ate here on New Year's Eve, though it was early in the evening. While I was initially disappointed that they did not have any NA beer to offer, the bartender came over and offered to make any cocktail without alcohol, which was nice and unexpected. The food was excellent. I started with a fried oyster appetizer, continued with a kale salad, and then a truffled grilled cheese with a poached egg. The menu is limited, which I like, though there are plenty of good choices.
Great sit-down option in Union Market. The cuisine was exceptional!
Been to Bidwell twice. Great brunch menu. Fun atmosphere in the Market.
It was okay. The food was not spectacular, it was pretty average. It was fairly noisy, the service was the best thing about the experience. I would not go out of my way to go there.
Good spot. Tight dining room. Good energy. Diverse and accommodating menu. Good food.
Food—fried oysters, fried deviled eggs, Margherita pizza, desserts—was delicious, but the individual pizza was brought out 15-20 minutes after five other meals. No compensation/consideration was offered for the mistake, and we didn’t press the point.
The food was economically priced and was very tasty!
Excellent!!! The Best Thanksgiving dinner we've ever had !!
one group was particularly loud and tables were a little close too each other. food and staff are great.
All enjoyed their meal.
Location was great. Service was good but our orders were not correct and had to send some food items back. They were very apologetic and accommodating and took the food off the bill because of the error. Drinks were delish! I would go back.
Great lunch with a friend who just wanted to get away from the office for a break. We shared a pizza that was yummy and added a salad. Quick service and good prices so we had a nice time. Looking forward to returning as the location is out of the busy area of Union Market and a but more quiet.
We had brunch at Bidwell and were seated at a nice two top in the sun. Atmosphere is really nice and while not quiet, we could hear each other top. Our server was really nice - in all honesty, she was very slow to take our order and to check on us, but she was super nice and that counts for a lot. Unfortunately, the food was pretty meh. We both ordered the wild mushroom, spinach and goat cheese omelet, which sounded amazing. As described it had herbs in addition to the the mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese. Sadly, it was pretty tasteless and I am not sure why. Definitely would not order again. Also didn't like the potatoe hash - tasted like cooked potatoes in tomato sauce. Not the brunch of my dreams. We did start with some oysters and they were very good but served with a side of what tasted like salsa - yuck (I ate mine with lemon juice). Doubtful I would go back.
Vacation - found through web. Easy to get to from hotel. Good food, though out of Chardonnay by the glass as of 6:45 and did not offer to open one of the By The Bottle alternatives. For $13 a glass, seemed that should have been a possibility. Great fries though. Both had salads so not able to recommend much.
Waited 30 minutes despite a reservation to then be seated at a less than desirable place. Food is ok but nothing special. Drinks are good. Prices are average for the DC area overall a decent value but the wait time was a big letdown
The food here is amazing. The space is comfy and vibrant. It’s what a restaurant experience should be!
A pleasant meal. A pleasant place. This 50 character length is an unwanted restriction
Great experience and great food
We'd been to Bidwell before, and had been really impressed with the vibe, the service, the food and drink, everything... so I was excited to have a birthday dinner there last week. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. After we were seated, there was a good 10-15 minute delay before anyone came to get our drink order. They messed up my friend's order (I think it was just a mishearing, but the server was very rushed and didn't confirm anything, which could have prevented the issue). My grilled cheese was fine, but a bit disappointing as a dinner entree (it was clearly the same setup as for lunch, which we knew because they only gave us one actual dinner menu; the other 5 were all lunch menus). My partner's fetticini alfredo was particularly disappointing, it didn't even resemble alfredo (I would not describe the sauce on his dish as either "white" or "creamy"). They didn't ask us if we wanted another round of drinks until our food was pretty much done, and when they finally brought them out, one was missing. We had two friends that joined us very late, and they just brought out the bill without even asking them if they wanted to order a drink or anything?
Anyway, maybe they were short staffed or something, but it felt like they were eager to get us out of the place (when they weren't ignoring us entirely). We ordered dinner entrees, shots, and fancy cocktails, so I don't think we were being ignored because we were a cheap table. Maybe it wouldn't seem so bad if it weren't in such marked contrast with our previous visit a couple years ago, which was so lovely. I hope they figure it out.
Not a great brunch menu
We went to Bidwell for a quick dinner before the Nats Game 3 of the World Series. Even though crowded and a Friday night the service was very good and very quick. We got pizza and salad. I loved the Caesar salad which was delightfully not over dressed as Caesar salad often is. The vegetable pizza was delicious. Unfortunately the margarita pizza was a disappointment to my dining mate. The crust was burnt and hard and there were merely a few very small blobs of mozzarella cheese on a surface of not so great tomato sauce. But it could’ve just been a bad night for that one pizza because my dinner and our appetizers (especially the mushrooms) were delicious
Polite waitress who cluelessly piled up our courses on the table instead of allowing us to finish our soup course. My lamb chops and sautéed mushrooms sat and got cold as they were delivered FIVE minutes after our soups arrived. Then, when my onion soup was done, no one bussed the table so we had to move our own bowls to the side to make room for the next courses-which of course had been sitting on the crowded table for the past 10 minutes or so. Flavors were pretty good but everything was under salted and, of course, we had to ask for salt as none was offered on the table. How this place got a Michelin star is beyond me! If their goal was to feed us and flip the table in under 30 minutes, they almost succeeded!
Great food. Great service. Great location. Yummy menu choices include: tuna tacos, lamb chops, pizza, caesar salad and kale salad.
lovely spot in Washington DC, excellent value for superb food!
It is always a pleasure meeting and dining here. Service is always great, food is always great, and I love the fact that there are always new food and drink options to try.
We went for date night on Friday for dinner and really enjoyed the clam pizza, octopus ceviche and fried oysters. Loved the food and atmosphere so much that I went back with friends on Sunday for happy hour!
The food was good. Took a while after we were seated to meet our waitress. Drinks came slowly. Main complaint was the speed between courses...literally 5 minutes between appetizers being place on the table and the mains arrived. We had to shuffle quite a bit on the relatively small table to make things fit. Never really got to enjoy the burrata or bean dip, which we would have liked to have more time enjoying.
The noise level was extremely loud. Me and my guest had to shout through our hands the entire time whether it was the music or people talking. The noise level was lower out in the market area than it was in Bidwell. I will not return for that experience again.
Excelente lugar, súper agradable el brunch!
Dinner on Saturday evening began well, with fried oysters and went downhill from there. Ordered the Nicoise salad, which arrived with a very few slender slices of tuna and a salad that tasted of chemicals or heavily chlorinated water. Was told by the waitstaff that manager would come to discuss; manager never appeared. Received a discount on final bill. Not sure what niche this restaurant is filling at Union Market: much better food is available elsewhere at the market; its atmosphere as a sit-down restaurant hardly makes up for a so-so-dining experience.
We returned the next night to sample more of the menu.
We went for brunch, waitress made great recommendations, fruit was fresh and they kept the bottomless mimosas filled. Great service. Never felt rushed....
Noice level throughout dinning experience ruined an otherwise great experience.
