Right in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Bida Manda is a thoughtful and sharp gathering place celebrating the diverse food and culture of Laos. Bida Manda is one of the very first Laotian restaurants in the US. Sanskrit for father and mother, we name the restaurant Bida Manda as our way of honoring our parents in Laos who taught us everything we know about food, hospitality, and the power it has in bringing people together.

Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home.

Come in and go away with us on sensational culinary journey to Laos.

Delicious! Such interesting food. This was my second stop at Bida Manda - we had the sausage (OMG - MUST HAVE) which was shockingly good, the sticky rice and lettuce wraps (good but not a must-have). We also got the whole fish lightly fried which was yummy and easy to split between two. We also got a delicious sparkling rose for a very reasonable price. All in all, great return on value!

Excellent restaurant with attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, wait staff. There are subtle flavors in all the dishes which is a testimony to the owners and kitchen. Highly recommend reading the story behind Bida Manda as it will give the diner a perspective on how this restaurant came into being.

My wife is from Southeast Asia so we are familiar with many of the dishes Bida Manda serves. We started with the Luang Prabang Lemongrass Sausage. This was quite nice with a good blend of spices and enough lemongrass to satisfy. My wife noted the meat was similar to what she does when she makes stuffed frog legs. So a big 10 on this one. For entrees we had the saffron crepe and Crispy Pork Belly Soup. The Saffron Crepe is similar to Banh Xeo (Vietnamese) or Banh Chao (Cambodian) The crepe is supposed to be light and not quite crunchy and served with lettuce, mint and/or basil, cucumber and a fish sauce with peanut & shredded carrot. Unfortunately this crepe was greasy, too crunchy and filled with green beans in addition to the meat/bean sprout mixture. We understand differences in recipes across countries, but this seemed to totally miss the mark. Perhaps they are trying to satisfy the Southern American taste? I had the Crispy Pork Belly soup. The pork belly was good and tasty. A nice amount of fresh shredded vegetables and generous noodles. However the curry sauce was overly salty and bland, lacking a true curry flavor. Again perhaps trying to satisfy American taste? For dessert we had the Purple Sticky Rice with coconut custard and mango puree surrounded by a dairy free caramelized tamarind sauce. Now this was delicious! A true taste of French & Southeast Fusion. Our recommendation is to try Bida Manda but go for dishes like the Green Papaya Salad or the Sea Bass Mok.

I had waited a long time to eat at this restaurant and it was totally worth the wait. The food was amazing! The service was also excellent. My water was always filled without asking and no one came to the table and interrupted conversation to ask how things were going-a pet peeve. The dessert macaroons were a religious experience. Cannot wait to go back.

Seriously, if you are celebrating a special occasion then Bida Manda is amazing! While we were being seated, I mentioned to the hostess that I couldn’t wait to order the Shrimp Summer Rolls. In less than a minute after she left, the waiter arrived with the summer rolls!

Our waiter was very attentive. The food was wonderful. My husband loved his salmon. We also order the trio dessert to celebrate my birthday. The Cocunut and Chocolate Creme Brûlée are my favorites.

The decor is warm, comfortable with an Asian flair. The space is welcoming but small in a cozy, comfy way. I really enjoy the vibe.

We were very excited about our first dinner at this highly rated restaurant. We eat out often and look for highly rated restaurants wherever we go. Unfortunately, as happens from time to time, we were disappointed when the experience didn’t match the anticipation. Its not my intention to discredit its reputation, just a heads up to those who might have inflated expectations as a result of its reputation. The food was average. One dish was order as medium, but came out so spicy hot that it was not edible. The other dish was something I would expect from a good Asian restaurant. Cool place, average food.

I love the food here. The Lao Baguette is amazing and easily enough to share with a friend. We also loved the Green Papaya Salad w/ lemongrass chicken. Both presentation and flavor are outstanding. Service is friendly and helpful and they are happy to make recommendations for those who have dietary restrictions.

Once Again Bida Manda Delivers. My Brother in law relocated to the area from Hawaii. The first place my wife and I decided to share with him is where to enjoy a meal. Every bite was delicious. I must make special note of gratitude to our server Christine. She made us feel welcome. Her personality shined, she was very knowledgeable of the menu. Ever suggestion she made was spot on. And she truly made a positive impression on my brother in law. It’s been 5 days & he’s still raving about this experience. I’m positive he will be a customer for as long as he lives in the area.
