Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar
Our parents' recipes are the inspiration for our menu. Every dish on our menu is exactly what we grew up eating. They are the kind of dishes you might find on the street corners of Luang Prabang and at a Laotian home.

Bida Manda never disappoints! Fantastic menu and great drinks. The apricot dessert is my personal fav!
Bida Manda went way above and beyond our expectations. They treated us like royalty. It was our first time and our 15th anniversary, so I don’t know how special the service is for a regular dinner, but I was blown away. Excellent service, laid back atmosphere, incredible food, reasonable prices, we will be back!
The food was delicious and our waitress Diana (apologies if spelled incorrectly) was outstanding! Highly recommend this restaurant.
We had a fantastic server and meal!!!
We went to Bida Manda for my hubby’s birthday at the recommendation of several friends. It did not disappoint! Our waitress was fantastic (wish I had gotten her name to give her a special shoutout) and the food was ah-mazing. We loved the pork belly soup and crispy rice lettuce wraps especially! The chef even sent out a complimentary trio platter for dessert! We will be back for our next celebration!
Great food and service as always. But I found the setting to be very loud with the level of chatter. I had a guest who had a hearing aid and my guest had difficulty with the noise level.
The pork belly soup is amazing. Green papaya salad w Duck wasn’t very impressive. Waiter was exceptional. Great spot.
Love Bida Manda! I always try and make a reservation when I am in town. The food is delicious! The menu doesn't change much, but not that I would order anything other than pork belly soup! yum! Cliff is the best waiter there!
Anniversary dinner. Excellent food that I would never be able to make st home.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner here. I came last year for my birthday and loved it so much I came back again this year and it did not disappoint! Food is incredible!
Bida Manda is our favorite lunch spot in downtown Raleigh. The service is excellent and the food very good to excellent.
Great food and service! Loved the food and everything we tried. The soup was delicious! The papaya salad was refreshing and light but filling. We ordered a drink and didn’t like it and my server returned it and let me order another one which was exceptional customer service! Would definitely go back when we visit again.
Another fabulous meal at Bida Manda! Every dish is always just a little better than you expect (sea bass in banana leaf is amazing) and the staff always is helpful and welcoming.
The food was so pretty and farm fresh. We however did not care for the heavy taste of cilantro. That is just our taste however, but sure surprised us that anyone could use too many herbs.
The appetizers were better than most of the entrees that our table of 8 ordered. Most commented the same and that their entrees were nothing special. They also commented that the price was high for the entrees. Service was also slow. One person had to wait about 20-30 min to get his fish redone; we were done by the time he got his dinner. I’m not sure this restaurant really deserves all of the awards and attention. The food is definitely better next door at Brewery Bhavana.
Exceptional food and exceptional service make for a memorable evening. We loved the meal and our waiter and the entire staff. Highly recommend Bida Manda Restaurant and Bar for its fabulous and unusual food and drink menu. Lovely evening was had by our group of 7 diners.
Great meal! Highly recommend. Just a little overpriced.
There is nothing bad I can say about this restaurant. We went for lunch on a Monday. My mom was in town and we had never taken her to BM - Not sure why, as we love it so much! Anyways, she was unsure what to get and our server Cliff was extremely helpful and patient with recommendations for her. She decided on the Green Papaya salad with trout. She LOVED it! It tried it and loved it too! Delicious! Not really a salad, more like papaya "noodles". Delish! I got my usual - Crispy Pork Belly Soup which was just as amazing as the other times I've had it. A coconut curry broth with rice noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, red cabbage, nuts and pork, of course. One of the best things I have eaten in my life. Others in our party ordered Cashew Ginger Chicken (yum!), Beef Basil Stir-Fry (Mmmm) and Pho (Slurp!). App's we tried were the crispy spring rolls, delicious- Just like we had years ago from our Lao friends, and the Crispy Rice Lettuce Wraps - HOLY COW! These were sooooo tasty and refreshing! We finished with a trio dessert consisting of Coconut Custard, Chocolate Creme Brulee and Apricot-Tamarind Cobbler. Wow! They were all so good! Each in their own unique way - Fruity, creamy, chocolately, amazing! This place isn't one of the best (if not THE BEST) restaurant in the area for nothing. Make a reservation, for lunch or dinner, and go try this place. The service was fantastic. Food was phenomenal (I rarely use that word!). Fresh, bright flavors in every dish. Beautiful atmosphere. Just go. Really. You won't regret it. Except for regretting you haven't been there once you've eaten! Now I'm hungry... Wonder if there's space at lunch today...
Excellent food as always. Very loud setting
My husband and I were in Raleigh celebrating our anniversary, and thanks to a recommendation of a friend, visited Bida Manda for lunch. Our server Karlie was incredibly thoughtful, and very knowledgeable of the menu items and Laotian cuisine and culture.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and are looking forward to a return visit next time we are in the area.
When we arrived (10 minutes early) I gave my name 3 times to the hostess. She kept looking at the screen and shaking her head and saying, I don't see anything, are you sure? At which point I pulled out my phone and showed her the reservation. "Oh, you said Kim, I thought you said Cam. " Really? I gave my last name all three times.
Next, to the bar for 15 minutes to wait for our table. When we were finally able to get the bartender's attention, we ordered our drinks and when two patrons got up from the bar, my friend asked me to grab the seats so we could sit down. Before I could even get my butt on the stool, the same bartender was there like a shot telling me that all the bar seats were wait-listed and we couldn't sit there. She was snappy and abrupt. I never heard of a bar that had seats you had to reserve. It's a little embarrassing to be told you cannot sit down when you're surrounded by other patrons. It made me a bit uncomfortable and self conscious. Note - those two seats remained empty as we stood in the crowded bar with our drinks. Our bartender then proceeded to mess up our drink order as my friend only ordered beer, but was served a cocktail.
When we got to our table, our server was lovely. She was friendly and knowledgeable . I ordered the basil stir-fry and asked if the tofu was crispy or not. I don't normally eat tofu, but recently had a crispy version that was very good and decided to try it. However, the tofu was not crispy. It was soggy with sauce and I found I couldn't really enjoy it. I ate the vegetable and rice and they were good enough. My friend loved her sea bass and couldn't stop raving about it.
As a vegan, my only desert option was a purple sticky rice dish. After having rice in both the appetizer and entree, the thought was a bit off-putting. We ended up going to another restaurant for sorbeto.
Overall, very disappointed. For a $70 meal, I would expect a better experience throughout. That was not what I got.
5 stars! This dinner was a great time with friends. We had great service. The pork belly soup and sea bass were amazing. Christina’s recommendations were perfect and the spicy margaritas we had were so good!
The food and service was very good. Everything tasted well with a good balance of flavors. It was kinda noisy at 7pm on a Friday but the noise level got better as the evening progressed. Our table was right near the hostess stand and front door, which made for a very distracting dinner but I would recommend getting a partition up so folks having dinner aren’t necessarily subjected to the food traffic coming in and out. I am not that picky but I can see how that can be disturbing is someone is one a date night.
We loved everything about Bida Manda. The pork belly soup was delicious, the fresh spring roll with shrimp was really good especially great tasting when one dipped it in the plum sauce. Topping it off was the complimentary Laotian coffee which was excellent. Our waiter Cliff is knowledgeable about all of the dishes as well as the ingredients. He was attentive without hovering. Great restaurant.
This was my first visit, but will not be my last! Everything was excellent. Can't wait to go back again and try a different dish! Food was great, and the orders came out so fast, yet we were not in the least rushed. The Pina Colada was amazing. Not too sweet or cloying. It was fresh and delicious, as was the food. Our sever was Pat and he never missed a beat, even though it was peak lunch hour and they were hopping.
Cliff our waiter was outstanding as were our entrees. We will definitely return very soon.
I feel like this place it has changed considerably since it opened. My food was good but not great. The stuffed pepper had a skin which was like leather. My drink was good. My main was good. It was noisy with a large table of people obviously celebrating something enthusiastically. We haven't been in about a year but during that time the prices have skyrocketed. I feel that they raised the prices because they feel they can rather than they needed to cover costs. In the end, I wouldn't rush back, whereupon in the past, I've always looked forward to my next visit.
My favorite restaurant in Raleigh . Everything was excellent.
We love Bida Manda. Every time we go, it does not disappoint. From the amazing food to the wonderful service. We will be back again soon!
My friend and I were celebrating our sons attending NCSU - Our meal was delicious - and the portions were more than enough to share! I have to shout out to Taylor! She was our hostess and greeted us with enthusiasm and then shared her love of Raleigh and Bida Manda - she generously sent the amazing Crunchy Lettuce Wraps to us as a "Celebration" treat! She was wonderful - I will definitely go there again - and recommend it to EVERYONE! I'll go back for the amazing food and stellar service! Thanks to Taylor!
Jay and Shawn visiting.
The food was amazing-vegetable spring rolls for appetizer is a must and my favorite entree so far is the Green Papaya salad with crispy dill trout. Everything is so fresh and filling.
Because we were there to talk business it was a bit loud (reservation was for 11:30am) so it was hard to be really attentive and productive, but the food and service are tops. I highly recommend eating here BUT... get a reservation for sure as tables fill up quickly!
Phenomenal food. Phenomenal service. One of the best restaurants in the nation.
Great food and service
Awesome food and service. I understand why it takes so long to get a reservation. The staff was very passionate about the food being offered there and after eating it, I can see why. We especially enjoyed the appetizer sausage (have to try it with the ginger and dill garnish) and the papaya salad with filet mignon (not really a salad). Awesome experience.
Fantastic as always. Bida Manda never disappoints!
Awesome! Excellent service and even better food! Have to go next door for some of the best beers in America!
I have dined here about 10 times and the food is always consistently very good. Sometimes the noise levels can get loud during peak times when restaurant is full capacity.
Lettuce wraps are really good. The papaya salad was good- got the steak which was WAY over cooked. Asked for medium it was well and also served cold. The pork belly soup I felt was better the first time I ordered it. It wasn’t as tasty as last time - more mild in taste and we asked for it to be spicy too. Which was a bummer. Good food but pretty overpriced especially for something like a steak to be cold and over cooked shouldn’t happen.
Cliff was our server and he was WONDERFUL. He had knowledge of the menu and specific dishes and was a delight for my husband and I on our date night!
