A 4% surcharge on the bill (including on the valet parking fee!) in addition to already high menu prices far outweighs the great view provided by the location. While the food was good, it was an unsatisfying evening. Too bad.

Excellent food and service. It was
Special to be there!
It was refreshing that they have a dress

Is this the only restaurant left in California
That hasn’t sold out?

my husband and i took my mom here to celebrate her birthday. other than the view, everything was pretty disappointing. we were seated next to a velvet curtain, behind which there was a large private party that was extremely noisy. we had trouble hearing one another at our own table because of the noise. the food was just okay, nothing exceptionally tasty or delightful. nobody was blown away by their meals and for the prices, i hoped for more. it was an overall bust and i don't plan to return.

Unfortunately my experience did not live up to the other reviews I read. Though lobster appetizer was quite good, the side dishes were disappointing - and certainly not worth the high price tag. The mac and cheese had a crispy melted cheese top layer, but the noodles underneath were bare and had no cheese; fell apart and would barely stay on my fork. Likewise the asparagus was disappointing - literally didn’t taste as if it was cooked at all and the parmesan cheese topping fell right off the asparagus when trying to eat it. Though my partner enjoyed the beef duo main, my pork chops were just okay; again, not worth the price tag in my opinion.

Additionally, our server did not stop by to check on us at all for our last ~30 minutes of dining; she walked by many times though and tended to other tables. We sat, done eating, doing nothing but staring out the window for probably 15 minutes at least.

Unfortunately didn’t live up to our expectations. Diners be warned.

They’ve got to up their game. The food should be outstanding and it was fair at best. The chef’s special was veal over maple mashed potatoes with chestnuts which sounded divine but tasted like a salt lick.

The prime beef medallions and short ribs ordered by my mom : medallions were very good— I enjoyed the chimmichurri foam — but the aged short rib was just fair— lacking in taste.

Lobster bisque: the French service was textbook but the fritters in the center were an odd texture combo (though it sounded very appealing) and the bisque was not quite hot.
Truffles fries were over “cheesed” — a classic case of guilding the Lilly

All that being said: you can NOT beat the view (which may be what A’s is resting it’s laurels on) — and the captain was charming enough. (Was surprised she didn’t ask how we liked our food )
Special kudos to the maitre d’ who went out of his way to give my mother an extra Happy Birthday. Very charmed.
Go there. — but get drinks and apps.

The view is nice, but you’d have to walk around to see it. Menu was limited and not too appealing- and I’m not picky. Husband really liked his steak and my fish was good; the bread was terrific, but the Mac n cheese was terrible and just overall I wasn’t excited by the food. Service wasn’t very friendly like it typically is at fancier places. Overall not worth the money imo.

This was a perfect, extravagant way to start the New Year. As someone who doesn't often go "all out" for dinners like this, it was absolutely worth it! Food was amazing, the view was lovely, the staff was warm and friendly. I highly recommend it for a special occasion or a bougie date night. Would come back again!

Mister A’s is amazing. Everything for our evening was spot on, from food (enjoy the lobster tail and the beef Wellington, but TREAT yourself to the king crab linguine!), to service, to general ambiance. We dined during the first seating on NYE and had reservations for the outdoor terrace (what a view!) but it was raining. The staff perfectly accommodated everyone moving indoors - which was much appreciated from our standpoint. It was not our first time dining here and definitely won’t be the last. Perfect night.

We had a fantastic dinner on 12/31 during the a la carte seating time. The only issue we had was a 15min delay in being seated although we had a reservation for the first seating times available, and we were not given a window, which is one of the things that sets this restaurant apart from others in its class. When spending $500+ on a dinner, and there are windows available... we should have been offered it. Still, a fantastic meal, excellent cocktails and we loved it! Happy 2019!

Lovely lunch to celebrate our daughter's 27th birthday. She has picked Mr. A's as a destination frequently in the past. She LOVES their Lobster Bisque. The lunch was delicious and the service impeccable. Husband's surf and turf was spot on (chateaubriand and sea bass), daughter's bisque and Lobster Strudel was amazing, and I had the best mussels I have ever had anywhere. Their asparagus with Champagne Vinaigrette was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our server was attentive, personable, helpful, but not intrusive. All of this with stunning views of the city and coast. Having dined here at night also, the evening views are beautiful too.

Beautiful venue to celebrate 2 couples anniversaries. We sat on the terrace which provided breathtaking views of San Diego. Service was incredibly attentive. My only regret is that the food did not provide the wow factor that would justfy the cost and a 5 star rating.

The food was exquisite. At first, you’ll blanch at the prices, but the quality of the food is impeccable, and well worth the cost. Further, the portion sizes are very reasonable-you feel that you’re getting good value for your dollar. The service was exceptional, from the greeting when you step off the elevator to the final goodbye. The outside patio is VERY WELL heated for winter nights—we easily took off our sweaters out there on a chilly December night. And, of course, the view was spectacular—all of downtown and the flight path. I think this will be our anniversary dinner locale for years to come!
