What Insiders Are Saying
You've probably heard about Benu and its 16 courses. But is it worth it? Here's what goes down.
Very good birthday experience at Benu. Staffs were providing fantastic service. Recommend in 3 star restaurants options!
Absolutely exquisite. Such an impressive experience.
Eaten all over the world, including French Laundry & this is the best!!!
Very creative and consistently excellent food . Joyous , full of energy and intelligent service
Knowlwdgeable staff on all that was served. Highly recommend sommilier wine pairing with Yoon.
Memorable tastes and wonderful experience!!
Services and noisy could be improved.
We were in our engagement celebration and staff and food were just excellent
Excellent tasting menu. Very inventive bites start the meal. The menu simply indicates bites to start the meal but they just keep coming. 1,000 year old quail egg was worth the trip alone. Veal short rib and quail were both very good. Service is efficient. Valet parking really nice added touch. Car was ready in the courtyard as we left.
The staff at Benu made the overall experience amazing. The food was on point. Every bite was meaningful.
I went to five $300 plus meals in the last few weeks and it Was the number one by a long long lead
Not a three star experience. The food is fine, starting out with some interesting small bites that give way to some surprisingly uninspired mains. One dish was presented with a number of condiments, and after eating everything, the rest of the dish was presented. Had we known there was a Part 2, we could have planned better. Few explanations were given about what order to eat things in, or with what sauces or sides. The surroundings are nice, but nothing special. For more than $1000 for two (with drinks) one expects much more. The service was generally good, even though dishes were whisked away before you even had a chance to digest (metaphorically) what you had just eaten. Some plates were cleared while the other diner was still eating, something that should never happen in a restaurant of this supposed caliber. The whole experience was a little weird, and not even close to our expectations.
My girlfriend and I visited Benu for her birthday, and we had an exceptional experience. The menu was well thought out, and each item was unique, flavorful, and just enough. The portions are small allowing you to taste enough to be satisfied, but not too full to continue.
Throughout the meal I literally had goosebumps from the unique flavors I experienced. My eyes actually watered while eating the Sea Urchin.
The staff was also knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely attentive. My water cup was never less than half full. Our napkins were always neatly folded if we went outside or to the bathroom. At one point, I wiped some sauce that had spilled onto the table, and within seconds I was greeted with a fresh napkin.
On par with Quince. Pretty fantastic experience. Quince’s service was more personal.
Wonderful and superb dishes....kudos to chef and his staff!
Absolutely must go and try spot !! All dishes are to die for.
Staffs are very kind and attentive, especially master sommelier Mr Yoon is really knowledgeable and with great attitude. All bite foods before staring formal course is the history of this lovely restaurant, so guest can enjoy time travel back to 2010 since it opened. Their half dried fish and egg yolk fried rice with caviar is way far beyond expectation. This is one of my greatest memorable dinners i have ever had.
I was a little disappointed. Expectations were high. It unfortunately did not live up to the hype. The service was stellar though.
Maybe the best resetaurant experience in my life overall
The food is really excellent and good service. Exceeded all expectations. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate. Every server had their own spin when describing dishes and their components. No detail, flavor or presentation, was out of place. A night we will remember forever.
Second visit and another great meal with incredible service. Sent a bottle of wine back for the first time ever and they couldn’t have been more gracious. A must do dinner if in San Francisco celebrating a special occasion. Thank you.
Having tried more than my fair share of Michelin rated restaurants, Benu just didn’t do it for me. Beautiful presentation, excellent service, nice wine/sake/beer/champagne menu to choose from but very lack luster flavors. Meal was prepared well but I found a number of items not up to par with the 3 star Michelin quality. Multiple items were too hot to taste, needing to wait to cool down, flavors very subdue with most dishes and while some were very creative and eye pleasing the bite was not heaven such as compared to a place like French Laundry, Per Se, Alinea or even in my opinion Acqurello/Californios or Kin Khao. I wanted to love it and perhaps we may try again as it could have been an off day. Unfortunately 3 stars shouldn’t have one of those days but cest la vie.
The wine pairing raised the experience to a much better level.
Imaginative yet somehow comforting food. The presentation is beautiful and the service matches the comfortable feel of the place. I see why this place has three Michelin stars. The price of admission isn’t cheap, but it’s worth the pilgrimage for foodies.
This was my first ever 3 star michelin restaurant experience. The food was abundant and delicious. I would definitely come here again
Exceptional meal by chef Lee. Gorgeous presentation, perfect food temperatures and pacing, and attentive service made “just dinner” feel like a multi sensory experience. A feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. Favorites were the smoked ginko tortilla/eel “tacos”, the lobster bao, truffle Infused steamed bread, and the milk pudding with smoked caramel dessert. Omg.
Totally worth the tasting menu price; we skipped the wine pairing but went with the staff suggestions and the sake and wine did not disappoint. Overpriced alcohol? Absolutely. But this did not detract from the overall experience.
My only negative is that we were seated against a wall, and behind it there must have been a larger party who was quite loud and it was sometimes hard to hear my husband (we were celebrating our 25th anniversary). Other than that, a perfect meal. Bravo Benu!
Cena estupenda, con un gran sommelier.
5 stat + on every aspects!
Great experience! They had a special magical music box for our anniversary too!
It was wonderful. Would love to come back again for another special occasion.
Outstanding! The food, wine and service were exceptional. It was definitely worth the splurge and I'd love to go back sometime in the near future.
Expensive but mostly worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime meal
Very difficult to get out for under $1K... and not worth it. To put in in perspective, you could spend the night at the Four Seasons, have a delicious dinner at Hakkasan and have money left over.
Benu’s food is fine, but forgettable.
Always delicious, wonderful service, love to show off Benu to friends visiting from out of town!
This was worth every penny. Fantastic service. Good flavors, not too many over whelming ingredients. Can’t say enough good things about Benu. Would definitely go again.
Best dining experience we’ve ever had. Will highly recommend
Celebrated my wife’s birthday. Food was delicious and service was excellent.
This was probably my least favorite experience at Benu. We were in an seating area with two larger tables. One of the courses was a cod prepared three ways. While the dish was very good it’s aroma was quite pungent (if you’ve ever boiled dried cod you know the smell). As we were receiving dessert the large table was receiving the pungent cod. The aroma did not favor our dessert any. The timing of the service worked out poorly for us.
The parties at the large tables were quite loud. There was a point where we could not have a conversation any longer.
I think this was my least favorite experience in all the times I have dined at Benu.
Five Star service and food! Well deserving of their rating.
Phenomenal food experience. Service was perfect. Ambiance feels slightly stale. If you are into food it is a must go.
I have always found it difficult to rank dining experiences and meals I've had--until eating at Benu, which *hands down* set a new standard for me. Just absolutely perfect--every detail. Can not wait to return.
