Benu offers a set tasting menu. In order to provide you with the best dining experience, we require advance notice for guests with dietary restrictions. For guests avoiding gluten, we are unable to completely remove soy sauce. It is used in many of our base preparations.
Reduction in party size is subject to availability. If there is no smaller table available, the reservation will be forfeited and the new party size will be placed on the wait list for the evening.
Due to the length of the meal and quiet ambiance of the dining room, we do not allow young children unless they are able to partake in the full tasting menu. Many guests are celebrating a special occasion and look forward to a relaxing, uninterrupted evening. Thank you for understanding.

This is my and my husband’s favorite restaurant. Ever. We have eaten here four times and have never had a dish that we didn’t enjoy or absolutely love. Chef Lee is a creative genius. And Master Sommelier Ha selects each beverage pairing (including teas) with a sensitivity and paternalism that makes the dining experience like no other. We beg you - never leave San Francisco!!!
Nice, simple decor. Generally attentive service. Interesting and unique food, with some really wonderful bites. Nice wine pairings. However, some of the courses missed the mark on flavor and/or balance. And, one "course" was actually a flurry of several dishes served one after the other (even if we weren't finished eating the prior dish) ... would have been better to space them out a bit and put them on the menu as separate courses. Finally, not the best value when compared to other similar experiences (e.g., Commis in Oakland, L'Atelier - Joel Robuchon in Vegas).
It s perfect meal. Service excellent n very professional, requested No beef n pork & they preoared well in advanced, food was extremly yummii, the portion just perfect, the taste was excellent from begining to the end. The most satisfying 3 michelin 3 star
No words can do justice to an exceptional dining experience. So unpretentious and ingratiating service only added to the amazingly creative memorable menu.

stunning--every single intricate dish was amazing. some of the deepest and tastiest flavors i will ever have the pleasure of enjoying. absolutely night and day from my experience at saison (only other comparable experience i've had...). service was warm and inviting, bev service from the somm was flawless with great pairings. totally unforgettable!!! * * *
Overpriced and overrated. Everything was just ok. Desserts were terrible! The whole experience was underwhelming for a three star Michelin Star restaurant and an over $1,000 dinner for two. Would not come back and would not recommend it.
What can I say? This was our second visit. Our first visit was when it had 2 stars. Blown away by the food and the service. Coming back again soon. Totally deserves the 3rd star.
Wanted to mention that the reservation process was easy unpretentious (unlike other 3 star restaurants like French Laundry).
This is exactly how I wish to be treated if I am spending north of $2000 with wine and tips.

You won't be expecting something "Truly Chinese", "Truly Korean", or "Truly Japanese" here at Benu. What you will experience is an amazing collision and fusion of eastern and western cultures - from ingredients to cutlery to flavor to the ways they are cooked and served.
I first tried to categorize the courses by culture such as "ah this one is from China", "ah this one is French", etc, but I immediately realized that this is not a good idea - the value Benu wants to deliver, I think, is a successful mix of attitudes to food from different cultures. Even if sometimes you might get lost in the center of the swirl.
All courses are perfectly cooked, indeed.
With 3 Michelin stars the fact that the food presentation and quality is amazing shouldn't come as a surprise. What was a surprise is how accommodating the staff were, they were informative put my partner and I at ease and made the experience a pleasure. The wine pairing was fantastic, and notable dishes included the little delicacies and quails egg. The chef Corey Lee completed the experience by signing my partners menu which made her evening. The only point to note is that it is expensive even for this level of cuisine but we thought it was worth every penny for a special occasion.
Why, oh why, aren't there more than five stars?
I have no words for this meal. The best I've ever had and may ever have. So creative, delicious and original. The service was impeccable and formal, yet never stuffy. This is an extreme example of a beautiful restaurant experience. If you can afford to splurge, you will not regret it. Sublime.
Benu is more than an exciting dining experience. It is a thrill. Each course -- and there are many -- is a feast for the senses, a visual art form, a flavor explosion. The evening did not disappoint for even a second. The service was exemplary, the ambience subdued and elegant, the wine list notable - each sake perfectly matched to the cuisine, and for three hours we reveled in gastronomic heaven. Having become acquainted with all six three-star Michelin restaurants in the Bay Area, we put Benu at the top. Chef Corey Lee's extraordinary culinary talents make it a dining experience not to be missed.
This is the best restaurant in San Francisco, he use different ingredients all the time, Asian influence, always change dishes for customers come often.
His famous Xiao lung Bao, squail, abalone make a very good taste. Other dishes like uni, lobster roe with crab sauce amazing.
The food and service at Benu was excellent. Favorites include the salmon roe, uni and quail. The multiple appetizers at the beginning were all tasty and creative - the mussel with the tortellini in the middle was our favorite. Will definitely try to get back to Benu soon!
Greeted in restaurant courtyard with smell of garbage (or kimchi or fermenting soy?) - not pleasant. As we were a few minutes early, we needed to wait for our table - tried waiting outside but the smell was unappetizing.
Once seated, the service was fine. No hard sell on the wine pairing with dinner (which I appreciated). At an additional $210 per person plus service charge - better off ordering great bottle of champagne or wine!
The decor was bland - stark and unremarkable. The ambience was that of a library. Hushed tones. Eventually, they piped a little background music in dining room which helped with ambience.
Food. Excellent. Just exceptional. Every dish a wonder and delight. As a pure food experience - this place I worth it. However, as a dining experience - ambience needs a little work. And maybe plant jasmine in courtyard to help with off putting smell.
This restaurant is probably among the top tables in the nation. Food is "interesting farm to table Asian fusion". The menu is a tasting menu only. The first half is a random number of small bites giving you a dim sum feeling. The second half of the menu are set courses which come out sequentially but sometimes in groups (two dishes at a time) and some dishes are semi-family style. This reminded me of a family style Chinese restaurant where dishes come out as they are cooked. These were the feelings the whole thing was actually orchestrated very formally. Staff was friendly and cordial. Decor is sparse asian.
