Owners Joe Bono (Al Dente, Benevento’s) and Warren Mustacchio have created an old world Italian concept with a modern style. In addition to wood-fired brick oven pizza, they offer an array of italian specialities including fresh seafood and pasta. Gluten free options are available.
Brenna was awesome. Another great experience. Best Italian Restaurant in the North End.
Delicious food. Great service.
Great authentic Italian cuisine.
We felt a bit crowded in a basement room downstairs but overall delicious and a pleasure to eat there!
Amazing food! Awesome gluten free options! Very small. We sat in the downstairs it was extremely loud.
Really great food , u can watch them make it. Fresh , tasty. Cool place
It was okay but not amazing. We had reservations but still had to wait 25 minutes for our table. The bread was cold and mushy - definitely not freshly baked. The antipasto was fabulous, the fresh pasta very good. This place is very tiny and as a result you have a very high chance of being right in front of the bathroom door, so caution when making reservations.
Food was great and very reasonable pricing.
Service was fast but not rushed and very attentive
the food was great and the server excellent
I would go there again
We hadn’t been to the North End in 14 years and were amazed at the huge crowds waiting in long lines down the sidewalk at several restaurants. Thankfully we had a reservation at BenCotto. There was a bit of a wait, but they made room for us at the bar, and our great experience started there. Good drinks, and we chatted with the chef, who sent us the best bruschetta I’ve ever had. Dinner and service were terrific, with everyone making us feel so welcome. It was the first visit to the North End for our granddaughter, who just started school at Boston University. We’ll definitely plan to take her back on future trips back to Boston.
Was not sure when we walked in but so glad we did. Really great food and fantastic value. Not pretentious, basic seating. Incredible food. A real local feel.
Great environment with friendly owners and delicious food. Would definitely return!
First time to BenCotto. Absolutely loved it!! We enjoyed the homemade Gnocchi and Margherita Pizza.
Looking forward to returning and trying additional menu items.
We had a reservation but were 15 mins late so lost our table but were able to grab 2 seats at bar. Pizza was fantastic and service super quick. It was a little chilly because people in line kept opening the door but the hostess tried her best to keep it shut.
Food & wine was fabulous
Portions are plentiful & service was great!
Our only complaint was that our main entrees came very soon after we got our salad. We were a party of 4 and it left us feeling rushed & with a very crowded table. We’ll be back, it’s my 9yr olds favorite spot to eat when in Boston!
Very small and a bit cramped. Food is well worth. Great on a warm night as all the windows open up.
Delicious!!! 4 th time I’ve been to this restaurant and I’m always satisfied!!
Food was very good. We were seated in the basement which was stuffy and so loud we couldn’t hear each other talk.
Service was quick and friendly.
We came here on a food tour earlier in the day and had to come back for seconds. The pumpkin ravioli is outstanding. Not really a pumpkin fan but this was SO GOOD (the sauce! save the sauce for dipping later). Our waiter was Nick (he is the owner's son) and he knew the menu forwards and backwards. Excellent service and great recommendations. He highly suggested the Vinegar, Peppers, and Potatoes. Not something I would have picked out but was very impressed and would order it 2x a week if I could (it's not as heavy as a traditional Italian dish so it's great if you want something a little lighter). Atmosphere was outstanding. I loved the open windows and people watching down Hanover. Highly recommend!
The only issue is that even after making a reservation, on a beautiful day and windows open we were relegated to the windowless basement.
Basement seating is awful. Noise level wicked. If I have a reservation, I expect to be seated in the upper dining room. Will never accept that again. Thankfully, we didn’t have guests with us as we have so often in the past. Guess we’ll stay away for a while.
Pizza Italian style, would recommend it!
we had the BEST waiter. so nice, helpful, and great.
I went with three friends and we had a good time — the food was yummy (three of us got pasta dishes and the fourth got a pizza), but it took a noticeably long time for them to bring it out. They were friendly about it though, and it worked out! It’s a very small, loud space, like most of the restaurants in the North End, but fun people watching, and it’s always nice in the summer with the windows open.
we got put in the basement so al the noise and heat was trapped in the air our entire dinner.
Amazing food!! The house-made Fusilli is a must get!! Bruschetta is also amazing. Loved the open air seating right along Hanover Street. My only complaint was that we had to wait for a table for about 20 minutes even though we got there right on time for our reservation (it was a Saturday night so they were busy). The service was also a tad slow, but that's totally fine if you are going for a relaxing dinner! Definitely will be coming back to BenCotto.
Food was excellent. I dined with my husband and daughter. It was very busy but we only waited about 20 minutes with our reservation. Maria was very accommodating and extremely friendly during our visit. We will definitely return for more of that delicious food!
BenCotto was okay. Better than okay, really, but pretty average for the neighborhood. Nicer atmosphere than most. Food was a little bland. Not to the point of being bad, just less spicy than the usual. The fra diavolo in particular was lacking heat which what pretty much makes the dish. I'd go again but there are better options that cost less in the North End.
Great spot for great food!!!!
Enjoyed our dinner at Bencotto. Gluten free pizzas and pasta choices available. Staff is very friendly. Would definitely return!
Boyfriend’s birthday celebration. We booked last minute and got right in and the food/service was great! The waitress saw his birthday from his ID and got us limoncello shots to celebrate. It was great :)
We LOVED it! So many GF options! We got the homemade GF gnocchi with the carbonara sauce and it was fantastic. We also did a margarita pizza GF and the mozzarella was amazing. The rest of my family got the eggplant parm along with another pizza and we all enjoyed our meals. The mixed elderflower drink was delicious, and the complimentary cream limoncello shots at the end were a nice touch! We will be back!!
We all ordered pizza and salads
My salad was average - it was a fig salad with greens and pecans and goat cheese - disappointing that the figs weren’t fresh but rather sun dried figs
Greens were bland
Little goat cheese
Pizza dough was very doughy
Sauce a bit runny
We were rushed because we had to make an event and the wait staff did an amazing job getting our food fast and getting us done in time to make an event
The ambiance is quite cheerful and fun
Perhaps we should have tried more conventional fare like pasta which looked real good
Maybe this wasn’t the place for pizza ?
Hostace was rude and impatient, food was great
The site is simply too small for the brick oven. In the summer it is unbearably hot, even with multiple fans placed throughout the dining room and with the windows to the sidewalk fully open, and in the winter in can be cold, as the awning windows have to be open to let the oven heat escape. Furthermore, the quality and presentation of the food has decline over the past several visits. We used to be highly enthusiastic about this restaurant, but no longer. (We've eaten here more than twenty times.) It is now a disappointment.
Always awesome at Ben Cotto❤️
Food was good - homemade pasta was very good, although very dry carbonara - needed more sauce. Good value though.
Absolutely hands-down fabulous food! The only thing that didn’t go right was our party of six was sat downstairs at a table across from the air vent. When the kitchen was prepping onions, all the sudden our eyes all started reacting to it as if we were doing the cutting. With that said our experience was downgraded....also once the other larger parties were seated it became pretty loud downstairs. BUT, we will go back and enjoy the cuisine! Staff and service all top notch!
Food and waitress service was excellent. The hostesses hardly honor the reservation. Upon arrival (on time) for a 7:15 reservation, they didn’t seat us until nearly 8:00. Very unorganized
