I absolutely love this place. One weekend I wanted to go get sandwiches and we decided on Board and Brew in Del Mar but when we arrived it was so crowded we really didn’t want to deal with that especially during COVID. I looked across the street and saw Beeside Balcony and said, “I want to go THERE.” Gorgeous view, excellent ambiance, and they had my favorite prosecco. The chef/owner and his whole family were so nice and came and talked to us during our first visit it was really a beautiful experience. I’ve been back twice since bringing friends and family, and I’ll be back again soon! I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends.
Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. Our server was very good and attentive; however, our food took over an hour to arrive - most of the tables around us, who were sited after us, had finished their food by the time ours arrived. This could have been a mixed up in the kitchen; nevertheless, it made a first bad impression on us.
Great food, great view.
Absolutely Incredible Presentation, Flavor, Taste & Service. One of our Top 5 Favorite Restaurants in Town. Got even better under the New Owner. Congratulations!
Delightful place to enjoy lunch with a view! The food was so well prepared and presented with wonderful service. Amazing fries and the chicken was cooked to perfection. Free parking below was an added bonus. Will definitely return!
Food was very disappointing. We shared a salad that was do-so. We ordered a crab cake appetizer and it consisted of only one. The salmon was meager and the rice was terrible. It was also overpriced. Perhaps the menu has changed but I don’t remember it being so expensive.
Servers and others were wonderful. That’s the only positive thing I can say.
perfect place to catch up with family or friends. service was great and food came out fast. I would definitely recommend to anyone!
Good food! Nice ambiance, very friendly hostess and great service!
We meet with young couple who are our friends. The owner helped to set the best table for us considering two kids we had with us. It was very nice of him and his entire team. Thank you for the great dinner and very good service!
Nice shaded patio dining, great service and tasty food
The crumbled lamb meatballs in the bolognese pasta was divine and my lemon garlic cream sauce with veggies and grilled shrimp was excellent!
Food was delicious! We will definitely be back.
Great service and delicious food. It was my birthday but I don't need any special occasion for my next visit.
They have no bar. That was a disappointment. But setting, food and service were good
Girls dinner, food was delicious and the service was fantastic.
Beeside is creating a great dining experience while complying with COVID-19 precautions.
I went there forthe first time on Wednesday and found the food and service amazing. I had the best mussels of my life . We went back on Thursday for lunch, salad with salmon and a chicken gyro. Outstanding service and food once again. I had a craving for the mussels again so we went back that night and had my first disappointment. Half of the mussels were brought to the table unopened. Mussels experts know not to force the shell to open so wasted about half the bowl. Just a note to the chef, please check before you serve to your clients. I’ll still give 5 stars because everything I ate there was amazing .
Food was very overpriced. You’re paying for the view. Service was OK at best (was in a party of 6) and was added an automatic 20% gratuity to check without notice.
Chicken was a bit dry
The food was absolute perfection, the servers attentive and diligent, and the location is lovely.
Food and service were fantastic! Worth the price, would go again!
Enjoyed our dinner , seafood was delicious , Desserts yummy , my husbands hanger steak a little tough, our waitress very attentive , overall good experience, will definitely go back
Service was amazing. Food was great and the view was fantastic!
Great place for a nice Sunday afternoon lunch. We ordered the Mediterranean trio plate for starters, which was perfect for sharing. The lamb in the Gyro plate was juicy and cooked perfectly, the fish tacos were great, and the Fish & Frites was also cooked very well. The only issue was that the crab cake arrived cold, but our server quickly took it away and brought us a new one, perfectly crispy, within less than 10 minutes. I definitely recommend this place for friends and families.
Our Sunday Brunch was so very nice. The covered outside patio had such a pleasant vibe and our server, Ashley, was wonderful. Our food (omelet and scramble) was very good and drinks (Bloody Mary and the Shanty) just as delightful. The only minor issue was the bread did not seem fresh and should be for an extra $4 charge for a few small pieces. Overall, a great brunch, thank you! :)
We had the Jikori fried chicken and hanger steak frites. The fried chicken was charred, not sure what type of oil they used but definitely not the right kind. I had to pick the burnt breaded crust off the chicken. It also didn’t have any flavor. But the fried chicken wasn’t the worst meal served to us last Friday night. The hanger steak was rancid (literally). We sent it back and the restaurant owner came to our table to apologize and agreed that the meat was bad but that was about it. He didn’t offer anything to make up for a bad piece of meat and suggested we try another hanger steak or another meal. I felt bad that I had to eat my chicken dish while my friend waited for a different dish. It was just bad customer service from the kitchen and the owner.
The view was great, the waitress service was OK. Sorry, even with the beautiful view I can’t recommend eating at this place based on my experience. Unless you’re there just for a drink and the vie, take a pass on Beeside Balcony.
tasteless, terrible food. Go somewhere else.
Just moved into the area, love the decor, outside seating with view, too bad about liquor but recent wine selection.. Waitress was the best! Everything great, but the food, I'm a bit of a foodie but not a snob, was mediocre. Fresh, we'll cooked but tasteless.. The seasoning was too subtle, and dishes were unimaginative. Too bad. We were really hoping for an alternative too some of the very few high end restauranta we like here, like Pacifica, but the food is just not there.
staff was so kind staff was so kind staff was so kind
We enjoyed the lamb chops and the Greek salad. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Very nice location and overall set up. Ocean views across the street. Good food.
A short drive to Del Mar brought us to a second floor open air bistro run by Christophe, a bee-keeper and third generation chef of Spanish and Italian descent, and hailing from Paris, France. "Beside Colony" features honey themed cuisine and fully masked staff with a view of the Pacific (through the palm trees).
With only a beer and wine license they also offer Creative mocktails of Sabè spirits (12% alcohol content). We enjoyed a Mint to Bee margarita and a Del Mar Derby (vodka with House-made honey lemonade and blackberry syrup).
When they delivered our app our eyes widened at the Bee's Board's generous portions: Saucisson sec, hummus, Hipiti, caramelized shallots, Greek olives, old grain mustard, humble fog, gorgonzola and a dozen triangles of toasted pita.
Our entrees began with Bucatini au Gratin, almost a lasagna of noodles and san marzano sauce with home made ground lamb meat covered with a blended cheese gratin. We then moved to the seared Chilean sea bass served on a bed of Bell pepper risotto, seared Baby Boy Choy, and red tobiko.
The portions were sufficiently right-sized to permit indulging in the signature dessert: Baklava Ice Cream Cake. Homemade baklava layered with thick vanilla bean ice cream, and infused with honey-cinnamon syrup. Bravo, Christophe! We'll be back!
This is a wonderful restaurant. They are handling COVID in a very smart way. Excellent
We discovered Beeside a couple months ago while scrambling around for dinner reservations. It was a awesome dinner and our waiter was excellent! We returned with a small group and had the same experience. Appetizers and meals were all great and our waiter, Ryan was over-the-top; cheerful, attentive and great timing! It was another memorable experience and we'll be sure to return soon!
A little underwhelming overall - one of the four dishes our party ordered was very good, the other three were fine, but not great. Cocktails were also not as great as they could have been. Service was attentive and pleasant.
Great outdoor dining option. Good sunset view. Friendly staff.
Amazing food the owner came out and spoke to our table. He makes the honey himself very good honey!
It was wonderful - especially liked it when Owner/Chef stopped by our table!!
Great view and ambiance, but the menu is overpriced. Drinks are super watery/weak and cannot be customized as they are pre-mixed. No labeling for food sensitivities. Wait staff was not very friendly, seemed hurried. Food is fresh but not really standout. Recommend the lamb meatballs as an appetizer.
The food is always good, but this time the octopus was quite tough. I won’t order it again. Enjoyed that the chef owner came to the table. It was packed, but the service did not suffer. Very nice crowd. This place is very dependable, good value.
