    Was really disappointed with our lunch at Becca’s. It took forever to receive soup and a salad and the salad was over dressed and was weirdly salty. None of the staff seemed happy to be there and the whole place had a weird vibe/atmosphere. I thought this hotel would show greater hospitality. Very pricey for very basic food.

    Dinner was superb and service attentive without being smothering. The one negative was harassment by lots of flys. I’m sure it is hard to keep them out of the building during the summer, but their omnipresence was quite unappealing.

    My server Lallah (sp) was exceptional. The food tasted fresh and the ambiance was quaint and wonderful filled with flowers and cute furniture. Though I was a visitor I felt welcomed at such a fancy place. I will come back when in town.

    i think they were short staffed. anytime you have a cook running food and just dropping it on the tables you know they were struggling. long periods of seeing a server. food was just ok. nothing mind blowing. also, had a food runner come to our table twice to auction off meals..... lol

    Fun evening, great meal in a Virginia Beach historic hotel. Our waitress (Kate) was excellent. Be sure and ask for her. A wonderful experience.

    Food and staff were phenomenal. The temperature inside the restaurant was unbearable. Both of us were dripping with sweat and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Ruined an otherwise fantastic experience

    Excellent! We had a nice dinner that included a 14 month old. He was mesmerized by our server. Our food was great, the crab cakes were perfect as were all the other dishes including the salmon. Our server had a special fruit bowl prepared for the toddler that was a hit. I can highly recommend Becca at the Cavalier!

    A Promising Setting, but a Disappointing Experience Arriving at this restaurant gave hope for a pleasant evening: the elegant façade, the tastefully decorated interior, and the prime location all created a strong first impression. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short of expectations—especially for an establishment that claims to be “gastronomic.” Noise Levels Unworthy of a Fine Dining Venue One of the main issues, and not a minor one, is the high noise level in the dining room. Conversations overlap, making it difficult to speak without raising your voice. Simple soundproofing—carpeting, acoustic panels, thicker curtains—would make a significant difference. To make matters worse, the background music consists of loud, generic pop songs completely out of place in a restaurant aiming for elegance. A soft classical or jazz playlist would be far more suitable. Service Below the Expected Standards While the staff is friendly, their level of service lacks the polish and training one expects in such a setting. Plates were not consistently cleared between courses, tables were poorly set, and cutlery placement was erratic. These may seem like small details, but they are essential in a restaurant aiming to appeal to a discerning clientele. One would expect professional service, whether in the French or British tradition, to match the restaurant’s claimed status. Decent Food, But Avoidable Mistakes Some dishes were well-executed and made with quality ingredients, but others suffered from technical errors that detracted from the experience. A clear example: the oysters served during our visit were poorly shucked, with fragments of shell making them hard—if not impossible—to eat. Mistakes like this are unfortunate, especially with such simple yet refined products. This restaurant has real potential. The setting is beautiful, the ambition is there, but to justify the “gastronomic” label, the service must be elevated, and culinary precision improved.

    The whole fish was delicious and tasty, the salmon not so much. The octopus appetizer was great. Ambience was very nice, the staff was great.
