Beauty & Essex- New York
The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.
The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

This was my second visit and never fails to impress me. Great menu, amazing food and very cool vibes without being pretentious. I'll be back time and time again.
I went for a cozy birthday celebration dinner and it was great. Every dish was delicious. We got great recommendations from the waitress. The vibe is cool. Would go back and try brunch
The ceviche tacos are amazeballs
Food was great. Service felt rushed and the server did not tell us it was last call. After ordering my third drink she informed us the bar was closed. I think this is kind of unfair to those who have reservations. Or at least tell us before. Hospitality wasn’t a thing here.
Been there a few times, live the place and the food, but never any news on the menu
Beautiful atmosphere and incredible food. No special treat for the birthday though.
Poor service and they had no bread so many dishes were not available.
The waitress didn’t seem to know what food was available or not and wasn’t very attentive. Just disappointing...
One of my favorite places in NYC! From the atmosphere to the menu, everything creates a unique and fabulous dining experience. Definitely a must-try when you're in the city.
To much noise
The food was good. Some of food is to small . They didn’t tell me that otherwise I ordered something with it. Dessert was delicious. With in a hour Where already outside
Great restaurant to celebrate a special occasion! Amazing food!
The food and the service was amazing. Loved the special touch for our birthdays and anniversary! Excellent service and food. The bathroom needed some attention. Only one stall was working in the ladies room and it was leaking.
Fab busy New York Restaurant! Would absolutely go back and would definitely recommend!
I used to live across the street and loved coming here. My friend and I decided to come downtown because we hadn’t been in a while. I was so sad to have experienced such a poor time here yesterday. Our server forgot a few things like our appetizer banana walnut bread and salt and pepper for our burger and mac and cheese despite asking her twice. The drinks were not as good as they normally are - both beauty elixir and OD. Tried each twice. The ladies sitting next to us agree their experience was also not a good one. Disappointing to say the least for $160.
Beautiful space and atmosphere, loved the women’s bathroom, Peruvian chicken delicious!
Only down side was that
What an amazing New York establishment. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and had amazing service.
Entrance is a bit chaotic. Toilet is past the cloakroom which is also by the entrance.
Food came out quick and was fantastic!
Ambience is fantastic and the service was top notch. I wasn’t overly wowed by the food though. It was okay - I expected so much more in the food department.
Food overall very good. Empanadas only ok, as was affogato for dessert, but everything else was very tasty. A good experience overall. Would recommend.
Great ambiance and food
Toilets out of order but with no apology just kept telling people you can’t go downstairs. Reception staff not welcoming at all & the manger just walked around constantly on his phone, no interest in the customers. Max our waiter was amazing!
Gorgeous - a must do
Food was amazing and if you were not ordering drinks, was quite reasonable. I really lovely night
The food was good but the service was the worst I’ve had in a long time. I almost requested to speak with a manager but I could see the manager walking around so he clearly saw that we weren’t greeted. It took the server 15 minutes to even greet our table. We celebrated my boyfriends birthday and honestly this almost ruined the night and I really wanted the night to be special. I most likely won't be back. I don’t mind spending any dollar amount on food but the service must be up to par.
Fantastic, food is unbelievable and great atmosphere.
Sit at the bar and ask for Shane! He was the best! The food is amazing. Beauty and Essex is a New York staple.
It was a really fun atmosphere! We did get up charged for two dishes because we were sharing but we weren’t told of the charge until we got the bill. Would’ve been really nice to know.
i was so excited to go here for my birthday dinner, and the second i walked in the service did not meet my expectations. i have been to other tao group restaurants that have blown my socks off but i found that it seems that my group (3 people) were bothering the hostess. when she brought us to the table, it actually was not ready and she shoved us in the corner until it was. our waiter looked like she didnt care to be there, barely speaking to us and just coming to collect our orders. considering the money we spent and the time spent i expected a lot more from there. it was a huge let down as the decor is amazing and it looks like it has so much potential.
Over priced, crowded, pretentious and the ataff was ruse. Never again.
It was a fun super yummy evening. Was a bit too dark in the eating area
Had to wait 20 minutes for the table we reserved weeks prior. I understand it was really busy that night. The food wasn't bad, hoping for a better experience next time.
This place was amazing! The atmosphere in combination with the food was just exceptional. I will say, the bathroom attendant made the restroom feel a little cramp just due to the size. I could definitely do without a guy there talking on the phone while I used the restroom. Just a small detail that is overshadowed by the great drinks and food. I would definitely come back
We walked in and we’re sat immediately. The dining room is stunning. It’s dark and intimate but just close enough together to meet the table beside you! It took a little long for our server to greet us. And when she got there she seemed rushed and a little flustered. I think she was new. My fiancé loved her cocktail and mine was pretty good too. Our water glasses never ran low which is always a good sign. We split the beef carpaccio, roasted bone marrow, and the burger. The slaw with the carpaccio was delicious. It added a nice crunch with just enough salt and seasonings In the dressing. The bone marrow was an awesome looking plate with three large halved bones. The banquettes were perfectly grilled and had some crunch followed by a nice chew. Our burger unfortunately was the part that is keeping this from a 5 star. We ordered our burger medium rare but it came out raw. We didn’t bother to say anything since we just ate beef carpaccio. But on top of it being raw, it just didn’t have much flavor. It’s too bad because everything else was perfect. I am making a trip to LA in April so I am going to try that location next time.
Overall I wasn't impressed. The ambiance lived up to the hype, however the food was sub par. The food was just regular and I don't think was worth the price; it lacked flavor. The waiter recommended that we ordered 4 to 6 appetizers and I wish I went with my gut and ordered a full meal. By the end of the night my boyfriend and I were still hungry and ended up going to the local McDonalds.
The waiter was nice and the drinks were good, but I don't see myself coming back here again.
We had a reservation for 8 people, they wanted to squeeze us into a table for six. Eventually they created a larger table for us by putting a tabletop over 2 smaller tables which worked well, except it wasn’t clean. First we had a waiter who we were told he was assisting our waitress who we didn’t see till mid meal. The food was okay, very small portions and nothing to rave about. We ordered many appetizers and then a second round of appetizers before our entree’s because they were so small. We did enjoy the ambience and the music that was played was enjoyable. It was a nice evening but for the cost of $1000 for dinner and drinks, I wouldn’t suggest it.
Our friends passed along the recommendation to try B&E and it did not disappoint. We loved the ambience, drinks, and brunch lite fare. Next time we’ll plan on a longer stay!
loud and not what we were expecting
