The ENTIRE staff was amazing! They were very pleasant, helpful and made our evening out very special! Starting with the baguette (which was warm and amazing), then to the kale appetizer which was a fantastic taste and blend of flavors to the Cassoulet which was a "Circ du Soleil" of flavors - exciting and wonderful! I highly recommend a night out to Bastille for a fun flavorful evening!
Overall, good food and service. I would recommend it and also go back.
Overall the experience was mediocre. As much money as we spent I’d probably go elsewhere next time. I ordered the French onion soup which came out without cheese and with a burnt black piece of bread in it. For $15 I expected better, so sent it back. This came out within five minutes and had the look of a typical delicious French onion soup. Service was slow but waitress friendly.
Best service I've had on a long time. Koji was amazing.
The food and wine was also extremely delicious
The restaurant is quite lovely to look at… And our waiter was quite nice. However, two of us ordered the falafel and they came out as a little rock hard hockey pucks. I hate sending things back but I had to… And when they were returned they only brought enough for one order. There were five pieces in each order and they only brought us five pieces. So I had to ask again if they could bring us enough for the second order. Really? My friends really enjoyed their appetizers and they did comp us a lovely dessert. It all ended up OK, I’m just not sure I would go back.
Haven't been for a few years. Have very fond memories of great food and amazing service. Both of those lacked on our last visit.
Server was relatively new, and had to go check on just about every question we asked. Not a huge deal in itself.
Ordered some appetizers for the table at the same time as our entrees. Entrees arrived first. They didn't seem to believe we'd ordered apps when we asked about them.
$37 steak tasted good, but honestly no better than I've done at home with a grocery filet and a bobby flay recipe. And I'm no chef.
Wife's falafels were overdone, hard and crunchy.
Still had a great time - but it didn't seem like the same restaurant I remembered.
First two course ( oysters and pâté ) were delightful. We hoped to buy a pate in the glass jar to take home but were told the chef does not allow the jars to be taken out. Okay
The main course arrived very slowly with my Brussels sprout accompaniment to the sturgeon cold. My wife’s steak and frites was on a cold plate and cool steak ( frites were hot) I assume both meals had been assembled over a long period. We pointed out to our server who apologized and took our meals away to be heated. My wife’s steak was now at least warm my sprouts were hot but now the sturgeon was tepid.
Life is too short to get further frustration so we just ate our main course, paid the bill without our usual tip and I left a note on the bill.
PS we were seated in the conservatory and it was very loud. Beyond lively.
Will not be returning even though the food was potentially interesting.
Noisy, energetic, with good bistro food. Charges for bread and butter, which is a bit strange. Parking in the area is tiresome to find, but the after dinner stroll is charming.
Our waiter was excellent. Charming and funny and gave great recommendations. The value of the wine carafe was good too. The food was lackluster compared to what we heard from others who had been there. The quality of ingredients seem good, but the execution was not. I had. $15 onion soup gratin (French onion soup) and it was broiled so long it was burnt a little. It was also pretty small for the price. The falafel was not constructed well, and we found it to be over fried. A friend had the special and it was quite small as well. I will definitely give this place one more shot, but was not impressed with the first time. I have heard brunch is great here, so that will likely be what I try.
It was a cute restaurant with nice decor in a good location. But there were two different hairs in my food and the service was just odd. They did comp my meal which was nice, but it wasn't even a yummy meal. It was pretty over priced for what it was. Probably will not be going back.
Everything was great except for the family with 6 noisy children. So much for a quiet Valentine's day dinner.
Great food and an amazing ambiance as always. So happy to have chosen this restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
Really good food and location definitely will try and be back soon.
Went here for Valentine’s Day, service was excellent and the food was delicious. Menu was limited but excellent wine service
Valentine’s Day dinner. Entree (chicken) was prepared wonderfully. Our waitress was great - attentive but not overly so. Everything about the meal was perfect. This is one of our fav places to go. It never disappoints.
I don't know that I would seek out a meal here again. The service was slow and it took nearly an hour for two meh burgers and some mussels. Definitely not what you want for that price.
We enjoyed our dinner at Bastille. C appreciated that they clearly marked menu items that are gluten-free. The one criticism I have is that their menu is quite limited. And if you are interested in the set menu, the items are even more limited - to two first courses and two seconds to choose from. The food is well-prepared.
Had a wonderful experience celebrating our 1 year anniversary.
The staff were excellent and the food sublime.
Thank you for a great evening.
Potatoes were really dry and the food was otherwise mediocre for the price. I have really enjoyed the food here in the past.
It was as always super loud, I forgot how loud it is in this restaurant. Our salads came so late, they didn't charge us.
I wish their menu had a broader selection but what they do, they do so well it's hard to argue for change! I've had the pleasure of going twice in the past month and it's hard to go somewhere else knowing I've got a sure thing at Bastille. Their recipes inspire me to improve on my own cooking skills--I feel like I'm wasting opportunities daily at home!
Excellent food, but extremely loud.
Super slow but friendly service. Food was OK there were some low points like the ham slices, the muscles were tasty but a little cold, the roast chicken was ordinary. Fries were very good. French 75 cocktail was very very good.
This experience happened on New Year’s eve. We decided on Bastille after previously having a good experience during restaurant week. After being seated we were greeted in a timely manner by the server and then asked a few questions about the menu. One of the questions we asked was “what kind of fresh oysters do you have today?” The answer was “wild ones”. We press for more information asking from what region the oysters came and were told “the wild, they come from the wild”. We ordered drinks, then asked a few more questions about the menu when the drinks were brought to the table. Specifically “what is the fresh catch?”and we were told scallops. Then we asked how the scallops are prepared and were told “in a sauce”. It became obvious to us that the server had no knowledge of the food or the preparations. Lack of preparation by the server is both the restaurant’s and the individual’s responsibility. We did order the scallops as one of the entrees. The entree portion of three scallops did not warrant the price of $34.
We like Bastille because the food tastes good, but overall this dining experience was disappointing.
While there we noticed two other tables adjacent to us both complained that they had been there a while and their food had not come to the table. Quite possibly our dismaying experience and other customers in the restaurant were the result of a holiday dining experience. We understand it’s difficult for a restaurant to staff a holiday event as many employees want holidays off. Thus it becomes even more important to let all the employees who do work on special days know that customer’s expectations are no less than on every other day of the week.
Magnifique! In soirée formidable pour ma epouse et moi. Merci.
Had dinner here on Christmas Eve. Food was delicious as usual. Service was excellent—not rushed with just the right amount of attention. Bastille has become a favorite Christmas Eve choice for our family.
It is my daughter's first Christmas and we're hoping to make it a tradition.
Reunion dinner with old friends
It pains me to write this, because my family has been dining at Bastille for over ten years, but the quality has dropped significantly in the last 12 months. The last time we visited, our entrees arrived very late and were terribly undercooked. The waitress disappeared at some point and never returned, leaving other servers to cover for her. Almost the exact same thing happened this time. The waitress forgot to fire our food, never apologized, and left the manager to pick up the pieces (he's the one who informed us of her mistake, and to his credit he did comp our entrees). Bastille used to be a reliably above average bistro, where the steak and lamb burgers were always cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. I'm not sure what happened, but we don't plan to return. Very sad, because we are their neighbors and have fond memories of meals past.
Always love this place! It’s excellent
They are always running out of stuff on Sunday. I couldnt get a ice water for 20 minutes. The service pure well sucks when it is busy. My friends order was screwed up.
It was awesome. The noise level is always too much but I guess that’s what restaurants like these days ... not so great for older people with hearing issues but oh well, the food and service were excellent
The service was impeccable, the ambiance romantic, and the food was delish! Couldn’t have been a better dinner out with friends!
Great service and food. They got everything right and were very attentive to everyone's needs. Always a good experience. We will be back.
Such a disappointment. We were there for steak frites. We went to Bastille last year for the same, and one of our party ordered her steak “blue” and it was served medium.
She wanted to use the gift card they sent her, so we returned. Not only was her steak cooked medium rare instead of blue, another person’s steak was cooked medium rare instead of medium. That’s 50% of our table’s food cooked wrong.
Three of us sat waiting for the fourth to be cooked the right temperature, our steaks and frites getting cold.
Basically, no one seems responsible:
Our server took our order.
Someone else delivered the food but didn’t check the ticket before serving it.
The cooks got 50% right, 50% wrong.
Who’s overseeing it all to ensure we’re happy with our food? No one.
They gave us a small credit on the bill in addition to the gift certificate for last year’s mistake.
Although MY steak frites was perfectly cooked, I don’t plan to return next year. It’s too stressful.
P.S. It’s 2:45 am. It seems the decaf wasn’t.
We have been coming to Bastille for several years now and we are consistently satisfied and impressed. The quality is very good, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the servers are always helpful--especially when I bring one friend in particular who has a number of dietary needs. Thank you, Bastille!!
The service is good but disruptive. I’m the middle of my sentence the server would approach the table and say “ sorry to interrupt but do you want to see the dessert menu?” I really don’t like that. The service at maximillian’s just happens. It’s seamless and we are never interrupted while talking. I wish I could find that level of elegance at the Bastille.
Over the years, Bastille has remained a dining mainstay for family dinners, date nights and special occasions. The food, while not exciting, is always reliably delicious and perfectly prepared. The ambiance is great and service is always attentive and friendly. On our last visit, we were comped a drink when the bar was extra busy and ran behind. It wasn't necessary but it was really appreciated, and definitely reminded us why Bastille remains a favorite.
Bastille is a terrific neighborhood restaurant that makes you feel like you might be in Paris instead of Ballard. Excellent felafel.
The restaurant has slipped. Limited menu, small portions, priced like an edgier, newer, more exotic, better place.
