Dined here for lunch on the outdoor patio, which is understandably being stretched to accommodate more diners there. Our table of 4 was uncomfortable and on a considerable angle on the sidewalk. The food, mostly tapas, was good and even very good, though portions were exceedingly small, even for tapas. The hanger steak was 3 or 4 extremely small bites...likely less than 2 ounces of meat. The salad was only average and the margarita pizza, while tasty, was very expensive. Service was friendly but lagging, despite not being crowded. We had an issue when the check came as our check was apparently given to the wrong table while we were given their's (over $100 more); understandably mistakes happen but it felt like they were attempting to have us pay their check. And finally, while it has been a very challenging climate for restaurants (and many other small businesses), as a customer it is very off-putting to receive a check with pre-populated tip amounts ranging from 30% on the high side to 20% on the low side. It's obnoxious - anyone who wishes to leave more than a 20% tip can always do so but suggesting that it is the lower end of the gratuity scale is not doing their establishment any favors.

The octopus was amazing & the gnocchi with mushrooms as well. Unfortunately, all of the tapas we ordered were brought out at once, so we couldn't relax & savor each dish. Also, I told our server about my allergies at the onset & he did not pay attention & brought a dish that could have made the evening end badly if I hadn't caught it.

Great music by the band, but it is too loud to have any kind of conversation.
So will go for the food on a night the band is not playing. The stripped bass and tres leches were wonderful.

The best thing to come to Westport since sliced bread...the drinks, innovative and a feast for the senses...the food, traditional with a flair and delicious (the truffle fries and basso salad are a MUST TRY!)...the service, impeccable and warm....the ambiance, relaxed, current with a nod to nostalgia and heritage (stunning Sophia Loren painting that covers nearly the entire wall). Went for a Sunday brunch and can't wait to get back....will definitely be in the weekly date night rotation.

Basso had the best octopus dish I’ve ever tried. The rice balls were a perfect consistency and flavor, even the simple spinach and chick peas was enjoyable. Terrific mussels, and large in size. We had a nice time.

This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The quality of the food is high & consistent, and the tapas menu is fabulous because you will want to try a little of everything. The chef/owner, Renato, is a great guy and it shows in his service and food. You can feel comfortable dressing up a bit or going casually in jeans. The outdoor tables are lovely with heaters if needed but now that it is getting warmer, they can open the floor to ceiling doors so that it feels like an indoor/outdoor dining experience. During COVID it has felt safe and the hours are great- open 7 days a week from 11:30am -10pm! (On Sunday it opens at 11am and on Friday and Saturday it is open till 11pm) Try the homemade gnocchi, the tuna coca, the basso salad, one of the wood fired pizzas, eggplant parm, or chicken scarpariello with a good kick. The tres leches for dessert is a must every time we go! And let us not forget about the drinks...the cucumber martini, the bee keeper, and the spicy margarita are all some favorites.

Food is fantastic! Everything on Menu sounds delicious so hard to decide. Ordered mainly seafood/fish and it was cooked to perfection and soon became a favorite. We have been a couple of times now and have been pleased each time !

We tried this restaurant as a new addition in town. Two adults two tweens. The mixed cocktails were pretty pricey, wine was reasonable. The sodas that the kids ordered were the smallest glasses full of ice and overpriced. They charged a dish of plain pasta with butter for one of my children $18 for a kids portion which I think is absolutely ridiculous. In addition my other daughter had a pasta dish, kids meal and it was $28. One of the reasons that I will not return is because they are completely out of alignment for children’s portions/meals. This will not be a place I would return for a family dinner. Also the two adults shared the mixed grill plate for two. The chicken was very dry, beef was cooked just fine and the sausage was ok. Probably won’t return.

Wonderful new addition to the Westport restaurant scene.
Great menu. Some of my favs include Osso Bucco, Chicken under a Brick, Paella, Funghi Pizza, spinach & Chick peas, Brussels sprouts, tres leche for dessert

I don't know... We used to love this restaurant back when it was a smaller place in Norwalk. We felt like family and the attention was great. The food was better value and it was an intimate feel. Now with the move to a larger space in Westport, Basso feels just like any other restaurant in Fairfield County. Gone is the feeling of being familiar. The menu hasn't changed too much (they've added a few more salads and have pizza now), but something isn't the same. Portions are smaller, prices are higher. None of the entrees came with any vegetables. A request to have fish added to a caesar salad was refused although two of the other salads offered that as a price added option. We were seated right by the waiter's station and the tables seem to be a bit closer together than 6 feet. I don't know. I think with the abundance of other restaurants in the Fairfield County area, we'll be going elsewhere.

Food here was good. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. While we enjoyed our small plates, they were just that. I understand the tapas concept but I feel the prices were somewhat inflated which is way I didn't give 5 starts.
