barvale, located at 661 Divisadero Street in San Francisco’s NoPa neighborhood, is more than just a place to fuel up – it represents a cultural way of life; a daily ritual. Gathering for tapas fosters a spirit of togetherness and community. It is Spain at its very core. Celebratory, delicious and inclusive. Our goal is to capture the essence of a tapas bar and share it with San Francisco. Our bar serves unpretentious cocktails, Spanish wine, sherry, and cider. Food is served tapas style, meant to encourage sharing and togetherness. barvale is the essence of Spanish culture; inexpensive and filled with people enjoying bites and drinks late into the night.

The restaurant was very noisy so I don’t think it’s good for a group larger than 4. Food was delicious.
Great food and great service! They had a 50% off wine bottle promo when we went, too! Awesome!!!
Food was good, and many options for vegetarians. Sitting at the communal table felt comfortable and we could still have a conversation. The cauliflower was amazing, as were the escalivada (toasted peppers, eggplant, and fresh burrata), bombas (fried rice balls similar to arancini), and potato omelette. Ordered the cab and it was delicious! Cons - Didn’t like the deviled eggs. And service made us feel rushed and didn’t answer any questions.
Great, affordable Spanish restaurant with a gin-tonic menu and friendly service. Also very good paella!
Amazing night, great ambiance and food!
Overpriced drinks from unfriendly bartenders and a rude host gave this place three stars.
Great place for tapas and sandwiches. Reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive. It is a nice locale. Very pleasant experience overall.
The food and cocktails were amazing, and reasonably priced. The albondigas and bone marrow were two of my faves. The service was average, and when the bill came we were charged for something we didn’t order and also for an item they forgot to bring. But they quickly resolved the issue.
Great spot! Good vibe. Food and service really good.
Great for small plates and cocktails. The crudo shooters were amazing.
Food- Patatas bravas, Gambas and paella were great for brunch. We didn’t like the Pudin as it was too much bread. Churros were excellent!!
Servers were great except for one who was giving us attitude for the things we were asking if available- for example- Splenda or spoon for the paella. We may be asking for too much but she could have said it in a very kind manner. We would respect if the restaurant wouldn’t have those things but please don’t fault your customers so they wouldn’t feel bad or ashamed
Loved this place. Delicious food. Amazing Service. Staff went out of their way to make our celebration memorable. Thank you!
The staff here is incredible. Bartender Jake and our server Pepe were fantastic, they are both kind in a way that feels authentic. The suggested food was amazing. Quality food and great service make this Barvale a new favorite.
Overall just amazing! Best tapas I’ve had.
Highly recommend their weekend brunch! The tapas style menu works perfectly for groups of four or more people (we had four) and is priced very reasonably. Would definitely come back!
Great food and ambiance
We were blown away by the food - quality and taste. And equally amazed at the value. Will definitely return.
Likes it immensely. The Happy your just be rockin'
We ordered paella, albondigas & octopus from the main menu. All were excellent. I would not recommend the Happy Hour menu because the food was cold after making the rounds around the room, the HH albondigas did not have any sauce while the albondigas from main menu had a delicious tomato sauce.
This was my second time at Barvale, and despite having to wait 30 minutes after our reservation time for a table, the experience was even better than the first. We hit the bar and had a drink while we waited for our table, and the bartender was just awesome - she prepared our martini secos perfectly and we chatted while the stragglers occupying our table lingered. The friendly host and amazing waitress made our experience incredible, suggesting menu options and making sure we celebrated our special occasion in style. The squid ink risotto was one of my favorite dishes, as was the pate and the bone marrow with chorizo marmalade. I also highly recommend the syrah-merlot blend that they have by the glass - nice and full bodied, and a perfect pair with some of the yummy menu items. Can't wait to come back!
Food was delicious and loved the Tapas aspect of the restaurant.
We were 6. We ordered one double order each from the tapas choices. It was enough food. It was delicious and fun . Also ordered 2 desserts-almond cake and bread pudding very good.
Great spot, great food, good serivce, one of our dishes was forgotten and it got comp'd, good drink menu. It was very busy due to Dreamforce but everything was quick and tasted delicious. Will definitely be back.
Good food, decent service. Good spot for a date or eating out with friends.
Been here with friends and on dates. Food is quality and interesting but not stuffy and trying too hard. The escabeche and G&T no. 1 are both something I always order #drool
Food super under-whelming. One of the worst tapas restaurants I've ever been to.
Love Barvale so much. Great cocktails, great food and great ambiance. Definitely a great go-to restaurant.
Great tastily food with a warm friendly environment to match. Yummy cocktails and cool interior design.
We went on a weekend for lunch and realized the menu was limited to mostly breakfast selection. There were only a few tapas to choose from. The paella was good, the pimiento was great. The sangria was pricey. I would probably go back on a weekday for a wider selection.
Great value. Excellent food for the price
I enjoyed my experience! I was seated near a drafty door, so I was hit by a blast of cold air each time someone went through. A curtain to cover the door would have been nice. I also wish my server checked in more because I had a lot of additional menu items that I wanted to order, but it wasn’t terribly inconvenient. The food was delicious, and although I was heartbroken that they were out of croquetas by 7pm :(, the various plates that we ordered were fabulous.
Super good though and everyone was so friendly!
Worse cocktails (completely watered and tasteless) I have ever had, especially for that price.
We could barely hear each other, food was ok but very, very overpriced for both quality and quantity.
I lived in Madrid for two years and Barcelona for a year. I develop Spanish language textbooks, programs, and apps for the North American higher education market. I think I know Spanish food pretty well. The food at Barvale is legit! It’s the best Spanish food I’ve had outside of Spain. So good!
The food was fantastic and service was excellent as well! I had been wanting to try Barvale for some time, and it did not disappoint. My favorites were the halibut shooter, the croquettes, and the seafood paella.
Really yummy dishes you can share! Definitely recommend the Paella since that stole the show :) Definitely will be coming back here!
Very much appreciate the host making extra effort in helping us find the right spot for 5 adults and 4 month old baby to sit. Fun place with very good food
Good service with helpful recommendations on food and drink. Really liked the white wine.
Can get busy and service impacted with flux of tables all at the same time.
Nice menu choices
Prices were reasonable, and the food was pretty good (though nothing was original or specifically memorable). It was a young loud crowd and we had to shout to hear each other; the bar area had stools in the waiting section that were extremely uncomfortable. Service from our server was excellent.
Fabulous food and smart and thoughtful waitress who recommended good wine choices. Their shrimp and garlic was especially wonderful. Lots of families with young kids so friendly in that way. But very noisy. Cute and informal decor.
Way too loud. Food was good, not great. Beef had no flavor.
