About
barvale, located at 661 Divisadero Street in San Francisco’s NoPa neighborhood, is more than just a place to fuel up – it represents a cultural way of life; a daily ritual. Gathering for tapas fosters a spirit of togetherness and community. It is Spain at its very core. Celebratory, delicious and inclusive. Our goal is to capture the essence of a tapas bar and share it with San Francisco. Our bar serves unpretentious cocktails, Spanish wine, sherry, and cider. Food is served tapas style, meant to encourage sharing and togetherness. barvale is the essence of Spanish culture; inexpensive and filled with people enjoying bites and drinks late into the night.

Thank you Barvale. You are the best
Let’s be real: in the midst of a pandemic Barvale did NOTHING to acknowledge it. No signage, no gloves, no conspicuous wiping down. Worse, no one else seemed to notice. This is no time to be eating in a restaurant but I would have expected even the gesture of concern. The fact they don’t show concern for safety means the employees serving your food are unchecked and unmonitored. You really want to eat in a place like that??
Overall Barvale fails to really deliver an authentic Spanish meal. Portions were uneven. $2.50 for half a deviled egg?? A Croque Madame (not spanish at all, btw) featured two very thick pieces of bread, a skimpy piece of cheese in between, a bit of ham, fried egg, and bechamel. They could have left out one piece of of bread because the bread slices were as thick as two pieces. I can't really fathom coming here again, although the Happy Hour looks like it could be promising.
Oh, and the outside sign is painted on the wall about three feet off the sidewalk, so if you're looking for the place (especially at night), there is nothing else to indicate the name of the restaurant other than a feeble neon "tapas" sign.
Having lived in Spain, this restaurant has a very authentic menu. The food is absolutely delicious and the value is good considering it's the city. It is extremely loud and you can't talk to anyone at your table.
Open table app didn't work well for this restaurant and when trying to call them, they took awhile to respond. The waitress was not very attentive. I'd say excellent food, poor service,
Great food!! Too loud (During the dinner slot) to have a group conversation.
Made a reservation, drive over. Seated right away (5:30pm on the weekend)
Waitress had good suggestions.
Everything was very well done.
Glad we sampled the paella.
We will be back!
Our server was fantastic,,,a girl with brown hair in a bob haircut with black glasses,,,wish I could remember her name,,,she was patient, informative, funny, did a great job even when the place was packed and loud. Food was great, loved the mussels with chorizo and the bread to dip in the broth....heavenly!
Food was outstanding. $48 for a three person Paella was a bit outrageous though. Not sure why they had the lights turned down so low. Could barely see in the place
Lové this place and the food.
Great cocktails!
Noise level a little bit too high
Had a very good meal with friends. The selection of tapas satisfied everyone from the vegetarians in the group to the non-veg's. The Polpo and cauliflower were especially tasty, as were the Brussel Sprouts.
Everyone came away full, happy and ready to return another time!
If you're planning a date night, this is not the place... It's super loud & crowded. Great for large groups of friends.
The server was extremely nice and helpful. Just vibing. Each small plate was uniquely different and bursting with flavor.
Excellent every time
Team offsite. Service was excellent. Our waitress was very nice and helpful!!!
Snuck over for a quick bite before a concert at the Independence. Good food that came out quickly :)
Staff was amazing! Food was equally as delicious
We had the prix fixe menu for restaurant week, a sample of many different things, all tasty! All our servers were really nice and helpful even though it was very busy. Some of us also ordered a glass of wine; the Tempranillo was delicious!
Visiting SF from LA. Restaurant week.
Great time at the prix fixe restaurant week special. Our server was great fun, food and drinks were all very good, and the portions were generous or more. Only ding was that the paella was a tad overlooked. Otherwise a perfect night out with friends.
Great food, one of my face spots in SF!
Good Value
We went for restaurant week. It is a lively place with super friendly and polite service. Although the drinks we had were good (sangria, beer, rum cocktail), the food was kind of average. The coquettes were tasty, but the paella was bland. Don’t order the churros....like eating a sugar coated stick. So overall hit and miss. Go for drinks and appetizers.
The service was good and attentive. Food was good, not spectacular. My main complaint was the paella was a mediocre shame. Paella should be made with arborio rice. This was burnt, plain white rice. And the shrimp was dry. Just not yummy. Everything was fine, but not out of this world
great dining experience, dishes were well executed and served hot, server was wonderful, service with a smile.
Solid 4 stars. We went for restaurant week and had a reservation at 6pm. It started to get packed around 630/7pm. The service was nice - the waitress was pretty attentive. I was worried there wasn't going to be enough food because I read the portions were small and not as great during restaurant week, but there was more than enough for the 4 of us. I'd recommend.
Great experience! Will definitely be going back to this place.
Very fun atmosphere. Pretty loud. Good food and it was great value for the restaurant week menu.
Food was overcooked especially the seafood paella. The mussels were so cook and dried that meat shrunk and there was no meat any more. It was quite disappointing. Tried the restaurant week specials and all courses were pre-cooked. There was no value.
This place was awesome. Great vibes, drinks, and energy. Came here for my birthday and it was nothing short of perfect for my group of 16
The restaurant was very noisy so I don’t think it’s good for a group larger than 4. Food was delicious.
Must have- paella!!!
I loved their seafood paella! The rice was nice and crispy on the bottom and soft on top with plenty of flavors. The portion was too small tho!
Dinner date with wife, sat at high top table which was fine. Food portions were small but plentiful as we had the special presented during restaurant week. Overall great place, waitress and staff very professional and had a sense of humor and personality.
We went for SF restaurant week and loved the tasting menu, service was great!
Great food and great service! They had a 50% off wine bottle promo when we went, too! Awesome!!!
Food was good, and many options for vegetarians. Sitting at the communal table felt comfortable and we could still have a conversation. The cauliflower was amazing, as were the escalivada (toasted peppers, eggplant, and fresh burrata), bombas (fried rice balls similar to arancini), and potato omelette. Ordered the cab and it was delicious! Cons - Didn’t like the deviled eggs. And service made us feel rushed and didn’t answer any questions.
Great, affordable Spanish restaurant with a gin-tonic menu and friendly service. Also very good paella!
Amazing night, great ambiance and food!
Overpriced drinks from unfriendly bartenders and a rude host gave this place three stars.
Great place for tapas and sandwiches. Reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive. It is a nice locale. Very pleasant experience overall.
The food and cocktails were amazing, and reasonably priced. The albondigas and bone marrow were two of my faves. The service was average, and when the bill came we were charged for something we didn’t order and also for an item they forgot to bring. But they quickly resolved the issue.
Great spot! Good vibe. Food and service really good.
