Our goal is to capture the essence of a tapas bar and share it with San Francisco. barvale, located at 661 Divisadero Street in San Francisco’s NoPa neighborhood, is designed to be a transitional space that transports and delights. It will also function as a meeting spot for friends and as a stop among many on an evening out. Our bar will serve unpretentious cocktails, Spanish wine, sherry, and cider. Food–paella included–will be served tapas style. barvale is the essence of Spanish culture; it will be inexpensive and filled with people enjoying bites and drinks late into the night.
Great food! Wonderful variety! But dont be surprised if you leave hungry...and not because you didn't spend a lot of money!!
Love that they still take reservations at 10pm at night. My boyfriend’s job requires us to look for late night restaurants and instead of being empty at 10pm this place was hopping. Food was fantastic, and the bartender even made me a few mock tails since I wasn’t drinking, and they were so good I forgot there wasn’t alcohol in them
Love Barvale! It's crazy loud, but knowing that, I can come early in the week, early in the evening. The food is wonderful--tastes like eating in Spain! And, the service is really sweet and attentive. And, knowledgeable.
The best tapas experience in San Francisco
Food was fantastic. The noise level was very high.
Food was excellent. Service was top notch. We went during happy hour so ordered everything on the menu (6 items), plus 4 other items off the main menu. All food was excellent. The tables were very close together (too close), but comfortable seating. Noise level was very high - to the point of not being able to hear my date much of the time.
All in all, I would recommend it and would definitely go back.
One thing about reservation though. I indicated it was our anniversary, but nothing special or even mentioned by staff. Don't understand why they ask if nothing is done.
Barvale never fails to deliver. This was my first brunch after many dinners. Perfectly delicious. I love a few items (shisito peppers) made it to the brunch menu. The “Bloody Mary” was really weird, but delicious. The staff gorgeous and attentive. Go for it. You’ll love it.
It’s easy to get a larger table for a group and the food is good enough. The price is also reasonable.
Our food was pretty good but the service was horrible.
Delicious food. Very reasonably priced. Lovely ambiance.
Second time in and it was great. Our server was on point, food was very good, Arctic char crude was especially lovely.
Fantastic food. We’d just come back from a trip to Spain and this place was better than most places we went there. Try the octopus - so tender.
Brought my visiting parents and wife for an early New Years Eve dinner. Accommodated our special needs by giving us a cozy corner spot (where my older parents could hear better). Nice whisky selection. Many delicious options for my lactose-intolerant Mom and my semi-vegetarian Dad (and omnivorous wife and me). The small paella tapas is a great idea -- 15 minutes instead of 30-40. Super reasonable prices, for the 4 of us grand total was under $150 with tip. Highly recommend, can't wait to return.
Our waiter was awesome! Some of the dishes were excellent, others just so-so.
Loved the food but be prepared for a noisy night out...
Sneaky gem. Every dish we had was great. Octopus is a must.
I chose this spot for my girlfriends birthday. It was pretty good. However we felt that the smaller tables were uncomfortable because they are right up against a divider between the bar and the open seating area. Our table also kept wobbling. Annoying! Overall good food though.
Early is great for families and older folks!
Amazing food and great service, from the host to our server to the runner to the manager. We had a fabulous time. We ate A LOT. We are feeling very full now but everything we ate had phenomenal flavors and was beautifully presented.
Have been going to Barvale fairly regularly since they opened in the neighborhood. Great cocktails, and a wide variety of Tapas options to be able to order favorites and try new options over multiple visits. Bar and waitstaff are always incredibly friendly and hospitable. Barvale rides the fine line of being both 'hip' and 'inviting'. Great for dates, casual dinners, or just quality craft cocktails in the neighborhood.
Good choices. Nice addition to the neighborhood.
Patatas bravas, the hummus, chicken wings were fantastic
Marissa was the BEST!!! I recommend her....
Excellent food, and excellent service. Impressed with both times I've been.
Had a reservation at 8:15 but didn’t get seated until 8:45. The service staff usually makes more of an effort when this happens but it seemed like they didn’t think it was a big deal and treated us like nothing happened (no comped items). Order a few items and one item took 20 minutes longer than the others so we were done with all of our food by the time the last item came out. I really wish they communicated this might happen beforehand because we might have changed our order given we were already short on time. Again this didn’t seem like it was an issue in their eyes. Food quality was great... I really wanted to enjoy my experience there more but unfortunately stayed at the restaurant about an hour longer than anticipated and didn’t feel taken care of.
Great food! Loved the octopus, cheese plate especially. Amazing gin and tonic variations - #4 is my fave. This is a place I keep going back to
Enjoyed the paella, & wished we’d ordered the full size - it had everything we wanted in a paella, ie fresh, perfectly cooked briney seafood, tasty rice & golden socarrat. Also loved the tortilla, & glad we placed 2 orders of this. Probably one of the best tortillas we have had.
6:30 on a Thursday, not too crowded when we arrived, packed by the time we left. Food was delicious, very flavorful and perfect texture. The cauliflower and hummus plates are not to be missed. Also recommend the deviled eggs!
My husband is Spanish, so we're picky. The food was all very tasty and tasted like tapas we'd get in Spain. Portions are small, which is normal. Prices were reasonable. Our server Bianca was from Madrid, and very attentive. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Great ambiance and Spanish flavor for sure...
servers nice but you have to hunt them down.
Excellent as always - servers are great / Miguel is very professional and customer service oriented
Solid food! Octopus was ok and music was a tad loud for a Sunday night but great experience otherwise! Thank you!
Quality of food was nice and so was the ambiance however their service could be better. Had to ask multiple times from different servers for a cup of coffee, and they forgot to bring other items that were ordered.
Friendly place with good service and tasty food. Nice options for small plates to share as well as having your own delicious plate all to yourself.
I know things are expensive in San Francisco but come on. My Americano breakfast ($13) before adding bacon ($4) was just ridiculous. For a total of $17, I received two scrambled eggs, a piece of toast and some cubed hash browns. The $4 for the bacon came out to be $2 a piece. There was absolutely nothing more on this plate, not even a twisted orange slice for a garnish. By my calculations, the total value fo the meal was less than $1.50 tops. One had to ask for salt and pepper as the food was unseasoned and there are no condiments on the table. I will not return as getting charged so much for so little is not my cup of tea. Oh, by the way, the $4cup of tea was excellent as was the service.
Poor acoustics, very crowded between tables, but everything else is impeccable. We’ve had consistently great food and good service here. Will keep returning!
Food was amazing and service was wonderful.
The restaurant is loud so if you want peace and a space to have a good conversation, go elsewhere.
Great atmosphere for a date or a group.
